Praxis Core Analysis

The Praxis Core Exam is an important exam to pass prior to being admitted into the

college of education because it is a requirement by most of the states in order to be a licensed

educator. It is also required before admission to the college of education in order to continue

working on a bachelor’s degree in education. Although there are alternative tests, the Praxis Core

Exam is most commonly accepted within the United States, so it is more universal. For each

exam you will have an individual passing score, even if you were to take the test combined. Each

test will have different completion times, but if you were to take the combined test you would

have a total of five hours to complete all three sections. Each test, if taken individually, will be a

$90 fee. If you were to take the combined test, you would pay a total of $150. For reading, the

passing score is 156, you will have one hour and 25 minutes to complete the test. For writing, the

passing score is 162 and you will have one hour and 40 minutes to complete the test. Finally, for

math, the passing score is 150 and you will have one hour and 25 minutes to complete the test.

The websites given in the instructions were helpful; however, you did have to pay for all

of the flash cards and study guides; so, I just watched the short videos that were free through

every website that offered a free way to study. I took thorough notes, however, did not have time

to go back and study my notes. There were not many other ways I studied. I read about the

Praxis Core Exam and learned the most information about the exam through the Praxis

information and quiz taken at the beginning of this course.

In Math, I scored in the 58% range, which means I need improvement. The thing I

struggled most with was statistics and probability. In Reading, I scored a 34%, which means I

need significant improvement. Finally, in Writing, I scored a 63%, meaning I need improvement.

Overall, I need improvement in every subject. I think one way I can improve my test scores is to

make time to study the notes I took.

I think purchasing a book or some type of study guide would be the best way for me to

improve my scores. I am not the best test taker and I know that I need thorough notes and a lot of

study time to do well on a test. I will begin by studying the notes I took using the free videos on

the websites provided in the instructions. I will take my time on the test and make sure I have

prepared better. To be quite honest, I did not expect the test to be the way it was. I thought it was

different in a way and was not fully prepared. Thanks to the Practice Praxis Exam and the basic

diagnostics that the website gives you, I feel like I will be better prepared for when I take the real

test and know what areas I need to focus on more for each test.
