JOB DESCRIPTION

DESIGNATION : Dy. Manager (Process Engg.)


REPORTING TO : Head – Projects & Process Engg.

1. To carry out and study the energy balance and mass and heat transfer
calculations and design the reaction and the plant equipments to get
consistent quality, yield, reproducibility and operational smoothness.

2. To scale up and validate R&D developed processes in the pilot plant, and
work out batch size, MOC, corrosion potential, utility requirements,
equipment modifications in existing plant, agitator speed and design, solvent
recovery, and flow chart.

3. To prepare Process Engineering and EHS information report as per


technology transfer SOP, highlighting the inherent risk of manufacturing
process, containment methods, likely quality and yield impact of new process
on equipments of the receiving unit before its implementation, provide
process control systems to meet critical operating ranges, and furnish details
regarding waste characteristics of the process.

4. To prepare design specifications for new equipments required for


implementing technologies and products, and handover to Project
department.

5. To be part of cross-functional team comprising personnel from operations


and scientists from R&D, while preparing process validation protocol.

6. To demonstrate three consecutive consistent batches wrt yield, quality and


batch time cycles committed (one with recycled solvents, reagents, catalyst, or
as per the agreement with operations department at URL or outsourced
facilities).

7. To prepare scale up report and seek approval from GM (Process


Engineering).

8. To carryout improvements in solvent recovery, establish procedures for


recycling of byproducts, reagents, catalysts and solvents.

9. To carry out HAZOP studies with E.H.S. department and operation


department for steps likely to have impact on safety and health of plant and
people.

10. To carryout DTA of solvent residues, reaction calorimetric studies of steps


likely to impact safety and health of plant and people.

11. To be part of cross-functional team comprising people from operations and


scientists from R&D, for preparing technology transfer review report
highlighting the status of the technology and achievements.

12. To assist plant operations in their cost reduction and productivity


improvement programs on assignment basis, as and when required.

13. To carry out process intensifications for improving product quality, yields
and higher batch throughputs

14. To carry out pilot trials at equipment manufacturer’s site before placing
commercial order as when required.

15. Develop subordinates, Appraise Performance of subordinates, initiate


disciplinary action wherever necessary, etc.

16. To identify areas of cost reduction and carry out all functions in cost effective
manner.

17. To ensure maintenance of record of Books, Drawing, Files, Registers,


Floppies, etc. depending upon usage. List of such filing / records shall be
prepared in order of convenient identification. To give instructions to all staff
to be highly proficient in maintaining them up to date.

18. To ensure training / guidance to operations on finer points involved in scale


up production in order to get continued quality / yield within defined
parameters.

19. To ensure that each department staff and oneself clock a minimum of 52
hours training per year on various aspects of management, competency and
skill development areas as per training needs analysis.

20. To be responsive on tasks / assignments given, and be proactive in alerting


the concerned people in advance of the likely delay, with its reasons.

21. To make sure that appropriate support is provided from your department in
outsourcing agreements as per business demands.

22. To carryout periodic appraisal of the group personnel for their merit rating
and participate in the recruitment, selection training and development of
employees of the department including preparation of job description. To

make sure that all staff working under you follow the laid down systems and
procedures and continuously stress on formalizing written procedures to
carry out all activities.

23. To ensure strict adherence towards Technology Security Systems developed


to control leakage of confidential information

24. As Manager – Process Engineering, carry out such jobs and other connected
or incidental jobs, which are necessary due to exigencies of companies work
and business requirements. Also to carry out such jobs those are within capabilities
and / or work in any other post that may be temporarily assigned.
