CHAPTER 1: Introduction to Enterprise Systems for Management

ERP System is the example of enterprise system. There is a lot of system department in the
company. But with this system we can manage the department from the company and from the
other. The example of enterprise system is Oracle. Oracle is the backbone on BinusMaya.

In implemanting ERP, we need to compare the needs and the system. ERP System share the
resources together and integrate everything into one. Data integration is very necessary in
processing data of a company. Because, with the integrity of the data the data is called valid. Data
integrity is greatly helped by the existence of ERP. Because, ERP explains the business process of a
company such as accounting, transaction processing, sales, income and much more.

ERP system components:

 Hardware: servers
 Software: operating system and database
 Information: organizational data from internal and external resources
 Process: business processes, procedures, and policies
 People: end users and IT staff

The use of ERP system are to get a higher intregrity data and also increasing the agility of
organization in terms, easier to get an information sharing helps collaboration between units and
linking information in real-time, better customer service due to quicker information which is very
helpful for every department to get the information, and efficiency for business process.

But, ERP has a system limit such as complexity of installing and configuring, also we have to assign
the specialized IT staff, data conversion and transformation from an old system to a new one can be
a tedious and complex process, and retraining of IT staff and end users of the new system can
produce resistance and reduce productivity.

CHAPTER 2: System Integration

Companies with functional silos may have greater difficulty in creating strong and competitive
products because they may fail to recognize the benefit of cross-functional teaming.

There are two types of system integrations, the first one is logical; develop system that allow
organizations to share data. The second one; encouraging and enabling the employees in the
organization to do their tasks in a new way.

The use of system integration are to increase revenue, enhancing information visibility and
increasing standardization. But the system integration also have limits there are creativity
limitations, long-term, and high initial cost.
ERP system make the process of system integration better and easier. Even they are expensive and
often require organizations. A good ERP will achieve department goal and focusing on business
process more to improve its business processes to implement best practices for its industry.
