1: Hello! Today we are going to talk about the importance of English.

2: In today’s global world, the importance of English can’t be denied nor ignored since it is the
most spoken language everywhere. There are about 2 billion people that speak English and
around 30 countries that have English as their main language, like USA, Canada and UK. There
are also many others where English is a secondary language.

3: So, we can ask, why is English important? English is the international language. It is present
everywhere, mostly in the business and educational world. Even more, it is present in our daily
lives, mainly on the internet and social media.

4: First of all, English opens new career opportunities. In recent years, the world has changed a
lot and now distances are shorter. So, everyone is in touch with everyone else, even if they are
far away. This is especially true for companies. Nowadays, most companies work with partners
and clients from all over the world and to communicate they must use the international
language, which is English. So, most companies need employees who can communicate with
these partners and clients and that usually means hiring people who can speak English. This
makes English one of the most important skills you can have while applying for a job. It doesn’t
matter the kind of job you are applying to, English will always be a helpful skill. Besides that, it
also allows you to have jobs that are directly related to the language, like translator or English
teacher.

5: Secondly, English is important if you want to travel. It is useful mainly because, since English
is an international language, you will always find English speakers everywhere in the world who
will be able to help you. For example, if you are travelling to Sweden, you would have to speak
Swedish to communicate. But, there is no need, since most people there also speak English.
Also, some of the most interesting places on Earth, like New York, California, Las Vegas,
Hollywood and many more, are located in English speaking countries.

6: In third place, English is the official language of the Internet. This makes it very important
since a lot of contents are written in English and, in order to access them, you must know the
language. One could argue that you could use the translator. But, this would take longer and,
sometimes, the translation may not be completely correct. Nowadays, almost everyone uses
social networks, like Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, and these are usually in English since they
were created by English native speakers. If you follow an English speaking celebrity on social
media, you must know the language to understand what they are talking about. On the other
hand, if you want to become famous on social media and be an influencer, you must speak in
English because most viewers will only understand you that way. So, in this case, speaking
English increases your chances of getting more followers and become famous.

7: Finally, English is the language of entertainment, which means many movies, tv shows and
music are in this language. So, if you understand English, watching and listening to any of these
will be a far more enjoyable experience. Also, doing these things will help you to improve your
English.

8: In conclusion, English is the most spoken language in the world and so learning it will help you
with your career, your travel, your education and even the way you spend your free time.
