Dear Mr McClardy:
Tam writing to request that a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is conducted for
the proposed Eastgate Air Cargo Logistics Center in San Bernardino.
San Bernardino County is already overburdened by air pollution from trucks and planes
and the addition of a new warehouse would increase the pollution burden on the
community. Air pollution exacerbates lung diseases, asthma and diabetes, and contributes
to premature deaths, particularly for children, the elderly, and those who work and play
outside, The need for a more comprehensive analysis of this project, particularly because
it impacts a SB 617 community, has been documented by comment letters to the FAA
from both the South Coast Air Quality Management District and the California Air
Resources Board (CARB). In fact, CARB has indicated that the census tract containing
the project is already in the top 5 percent for pollution burden in the state
As I understand, the FAA is currently reviewing whether a full EIS is required on the
project. A full EIS is needed to ensure that portions of our community that are already
overburdened with pollution are not overlooked. While I understand the desire for
expanded logistics operations in this area and the need for economic development and
jobs in the community, itis vital that the environmental, community, and worker
concerns surrounding this project be given serious consideration. A full EIS will give all
stakeholders the ability to identify and address these serious concerns.
‘Thank you for your attention to this important environmental justice issue.
Sincerely,
KAMALA D. HARRIS
United States Senator
