A.

BE SPIRITUAL
Disciplemaking is firstly about God not about men
A.1. PRAY AND
FAST FOR THEM
Prayer must be your lifestyle.
A.2. BELIEVE IN
THEM AND SEE
THEIR
POTENTIAL
How do you
recognise potential
in people? Ask, are
they…
Ready
Willing
Able
Things you might see in
people with potential:
Faithful in little
Trustworthy
Stable
Not afraid of people
Readily forgive
Willing to learn
Submitted to God
and delegated
authority
Willing to do different
things
Able to make decisions
(on his own)
Self-disciplined
Good communicator
Filled with Holy Spirit
Devoted to the
Scriptures
Loves People
A.3. DEPEND
UPON GOD
Continually build your relationship with Him.
Luke 4:1, 14, 18,
And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned
from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit
in the wilderness…Jesus answered him, “It
is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread
alone.’”…And Jesus returned in the power
of the Spirit to Galilee…The Spirit of the
Lord is upon me, because he has anointed
me…
Any disciple in the Kingdom of
God will only be as effective
as the quality of their
relationship with God.
2 Chronicles 14:11 ESV
11 And Asa cried to the Lord his God,
“O Lord, there is none like you to help,
between the mighty and the weak. Help
us, O Lord our God, for we rely on
you, and in your name we have come
against this multitude. O Lord, you are
our God; let not man prevail against you.”
Acts 13:22,
God removed Saul and replaced him with
David, a man about whom God said, ‘I
have found David son of Jesse, a man
after my own heart. He will do
everything I want him to do.’
Jesus rebuked Mary
for being too busy
to listen to him.
Jas 4:8
Isa 40:30-31
“When the Holy Spirit is in you, you don’t look
to yourself…you are not in the driver's seat."
“NEVER STOP
BEING AMAZED BY
JESUS”
Mike Bickle
A.4. TELL THEM
THE COST
Luke 14:25-27 (NLT)
A large crowd was following Jesus. He…said to
them, 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must,
by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and
mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—
yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be
my disciple. 27 And if you do not carry your own
cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:25-27 (NLT)
A large crowd was following Jesus. He…said to
them, 26 “If you want to be my disciple, you must,
by comparison, hate everyone else—your father and
mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—
yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be
my disciple. 27 And if you do not carry your own
cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.
Matthew 5:43ff,
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You
shall love your neighbour and hate your
enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your
enemies and pray for those who
persecute you…
A. BE SPIRITUAL
Disciplemaking is firstly about God not about men
B. BE PRACTICAL
Disciplemaking requires skills and habits
The human mind will
retain:
10% of what is heard.

20% of what is seen.

50% of what is
discussed.
90% of what is
participated in.
B.1. SHOW THEM
Teach, Train and Equip them.
KNOW WHAT YOU
WANT TO MAKE
A DISCIPLE FOLLOWS
JESUS, IS BEING CHANGED
BY JESUS, AND IS
COMMITTED TO THE
MISSION OF JESUS.
Jim Putman
Jesus showed them what
life should look like.
Love…mercy…forgiveness…
grace…service…ministry…
sacrifice…power…
authority
What do you include?
What biblical understanding?
What questions will they have?
What kind of experiences will they need?
What fears / problems will they face?
Jesus developed their minds. e.g.
Parables—they needed to work to
understand.
He challenged them and pushed them
beyond their comfort zones.
“The essence of idolatry is
the entertainment of
thoughts about God that
are unworthy of Him.”
A. W. Tozer
Teach them how to think:
Rom :28, Since they thought it foolish to
acknowledge God, he abandoned them
to their foolish thinking and let them do
things that should never be done.
Teach them how to think:
Rom :28, Since they thought it foolish to
acknowledge God, he abandoned them
to their foolish thinking and let them do
things that should never be done.
Want to know if your mind is foolish
(debased)? How do you think about…
Sex
Entertainment
Bad Language
A Futile Mind
"So I tell you this, and insist on it in the
Lord, that you must no longer live as
the Gentiles do, in the futility of their
thinking."
Eph. 4:17 NIV
Half of 18-34 year-olds
say social media makes
them feel unattractive.
A study an American Medical
Journal of 19-32 year-olds—those
who spend the most time on
social media
2x as likely to feel social
isolation
2x as likely to feel social
isolation, (including lack of
belonging, engagement with
others and fulfilling
relationships).
James 1:5-8 NLT,
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask
God, who gives generously to all without
finding fault, and it will be given to
you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe
and not doubt, because the one who doubts
is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed
by the wind.
7 That person should not expect to
receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such
a person is double-minded and
unstable in all they do.
He challenged them and pushed them
beyond their comfort zones.
Isa 55:
Loving God…heart, soul, strength,
mind
How many times should I forgive…?
B.2. HELP THEM TO
DEVELOP THEIR
OWN WALK WITH
GOD.
Spiritual Disciplines
Spiritual disciplines are devotional
practices found in Scripture that
promote spiritual growth in a believers
life.
They are habits (disciplines) done
regularly.
Study Fellowship
Prayer Rest
Fasting Celebration
Confession Sabbath
Worship Serving
Meditating on the
Bible
This means to think
on it, dwell on it,
chew it over in our
minds, in order to
apply it to our lives.
Memorising the Bible
—Ps 119:11, Joshua
1:8
A partner to
meditation
Giving—1 Cor 16:2, not
under any kind of
legalistic pressure but
freely and cheerfully.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to
you. A good measure, pressed down,
shaken together and running over, will
be poured into your lap. For with the
measure you use, it will be measured
to you.’
Giving Thanks
—1 Thess 5:18,
Ps 100:4
“…I think we delight to praise
what we enjoy because the
praise not merely expresses but
completes the enjoyment; it is its
appointed consummation.”
C. S. Lewis
The Bible is filled with
commands to give
thanks to God Psalm
106:1; 107:1; 118:1; 1
Chronicles 16:34; 1
Thessalonians 5:18
 Many verses give reasons for thanking;
“His love endures forever” Psalm
136:3
“He is good” Psalm 118:29
“His mercy is everlasting” Psalm 100:5
We can’t properly praise
and worship God without
being thankful.
Psychological and physiological
reasons why giving thanks is good for
you.
Grateful people have less depression
and stress…and greater optimism.
Slows down the aging clock…can slow
down some of the effects of
neurodegeneration with age.
Being thankful can help you build
better relationships.
