Title: The Effect of Project F4 to the frequency of

Brawl among High School Students

I. CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

High School is a stage of an individual’s life where they
discover themselves in various ways. This stage is crucial in
molding their entirety. In the process of self-discovery, students
may go overboard and offend others in many ways possible
causing a fight. A brawl, fight, confrontation is normal among
individuals but the frequency of its occurrence at Santa Maria
national High School has been alarmingly high. There have been
numerous fights reported and solved but there are still same
instances where it is done discretely within or outside that may
cause an increase in drop-out rate, damage to property and even
fatal injuries. The researchers would like to address this pressing
issue with the Project F4 as an intervention program focusing in
developing values among students and purposeful venue wherein
students can pour their energy while developing critical social
skills.
II. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS
This action research is entitled “The Effect of
Project F4 to the frequency of Brawl among High
School Students”, specifically this seeks to answer
the following questions:

1. What is the frequency of brawl before the

intervention has been implemented?
2. What is the frequency of brawl after the
intervention has been implemented?
3. Is there a significant difference between the
frequency of brawl before and after the
intervention?
4. How does Project F4 affect the frequency of
brawl?
5. What is the effect of Project F4 to the
frequency of Brawl among High School Students?
III. PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION, AND STRATEGY
Project F4 pertains to four activities scheduled on the four Fridays of
the month. The activities are specifically chosen to enhance students’
contact time with each other and improve critical-social skills along with
their personal and spiritual development.
The first activity for the first Friday of the month will be Ecumenical
Service. Students will be instructed to gather in one particular venue with
their corresponding sects/religion. They will be given time to spend their
spiritual practice to develop their personal, emotional, and spiritual
aspects.
The activity for the second Friday of the month will be Palarong Lahi
and other Sports activities. Groupings will be composed of different
students coming from different grade levels (Grade 7 to Grade 12).
Activities will be done simultaneously.
The third Friday of the month will involve students in Team Building
activities. Different games will be administered which aims to develop
leadership, camaraderie, responsibility and cooperation of students with
each other.
Recollection will be facilitated on last Friday of the month. Guest
Speakers will be invited to share his/her insights on the development of
one’s personality.
IV. ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

a. PARTICIPANTS AND/ OR OTHER SOURCES OF DATA

AND INFORMATION

The participants of this action research will be

composed of students and teachers of Santa Maria National
High School. The main respondents of the study who will be
answering the checklist will be identified students that has
records of brawls or fights within the school premises.
b. DATA GATHERING METHODS
The frequency mean of brawls in school will be taken from
reported instances stated in the anecdotal record provided
to every adviser. This will be consolidated quarterly for the
whole year. Other data such as the behaviour of students
and how it changes through the process of the intervention
program will be measured through a self-made checklist
validated by experts that will be disseminated to
purposively selective students from their respective grade
levels.
c. DATA ANALYSIS PLAN
The mean frequency of brawls from the past school year will be
compared against the mean frequency of brawls of the current
school year wherein the intervention proposed will be
implemented; this will be done through the use of paired T-test, a
statistical tool for identifying the difference between mean
scores. Descriptive tabular representation will be used to describe
the checklist responses of student every quarter. A line graph with
color coding according to the quarter where the data is gathered
along with mean percentage scores will be used for a more
comprehensive comparison of the data to see where there will be
significant changes in the students’ behaviour.
