Based on what I read, a global language is a language that is recognized and used by the whole human race as a language. So basically, it is used everywhere where we can communicate openly and understand one another regardless of what country we came from. There are status to determine what is a global language. First, it must be used as a medium of communication in such domains as government, the law courts, the media and the educational system which means it must be a first language that is used in every aspect of where we reside at. Second, a global language can be made a priority in a country’s foreign-language teaching. For example, In 1996, English replaced French as the chief foreign language in schools in Algeria (a former French colony). As such there is great variation in the reason for choosing a particular global language. It included historical tradition, political expediency, and the desire for commercial, cultural or technological contact. In a nutshell English is all govern by the status as a global language. It is not just randomly picked a global language because a lot of people use it. It must have structures to qualify for a global language and these are the status to tell a global language.
2) Why a global language?
In what I read, a language has traditionally become an international language for one chief reason. The power of its people-especially their political and military power. So that’s why before in the Greek became a global language before is because of their political and military power. It all falls from this state and I know that the United States has the most advance military power the world has ever seen and the brightest political power, but that doesn’t mean that international language dominance is not solely the result of military might. It may an economically powerful one to maintain and to expand it. That’s the reason why some of the best military power like Greece fell down and doesn’t use this as a global language because they didn’t economically maintain and expand it. Also a language does not become a global language because of its intrinsic structural properties, or because of the size of its vocabulary, or because it has been a vehicle of a great literature in the past, or because it has been a vehicle of a great literature or religion. These are all factors which can motivate someone to learn a language, of course, but none of them alone, or in combination, can ensure a language’s world spread, as we mentioned earlier it is based on the political and military power. It is not seen whether your country has amazing buildings and rich vocabulary. It is not seen if your country has a spectacular literature. It is all only factors to motivate them learn the language and English language was chosen because it has less grammar that any other language and it meet the requirement for all of it. 3) How do we effectively communicate globally through writing? For me, we can communicate effectively by knowing what words to use and how to construct sentences and when will we put punctuations in a sentence. It all starts on how we understand “Lingua Franca” or in common language. If we better understood what words we are using, people won’t mis interpret what we mean to say in a certain topic when it comes to writing. How we construct a sentence is also important sometimes we might have some grammatically error in the sentence we construct and it might twist what we it might mean. Using punctuation is also a must because we might deliver a sentence in a wrong way. Set for example we want peace in the world we want to express these 3 words to sum it up we want to say: “No more war!” it means no more war but if we put the punctuation at the first word “No! more war” it means we want more war so what we meant didn’t deliver on what we intently want to say. For me this is how we can effectively communicate globally through writing.
