Abdul Kalam Innovation Conclave -2020

Message to Young Indians

His Excellency Dr. Abdul Kalam

“My message especially to Young people is to have the

courage to think differently, courage to invent, to travel the
unexplored path, courage to discover the impossible and to
conquer the problem and succeed. These are great qualities
that they must work towards.
This is my message to the young people.”
“Dreams, Dream, Dream
Dreams transform into thoughts
and thoughts result in action”

“To have a great idea, have a lot of

them."

An idea that is developed and put into action is more important than an
idea that exists only as an idea.
--Buddha
Introduction
Organization can sustain the present day competitive markets by regularly upgraded the
products and the processes through the process of regular Innovation. Continuous
Innovations have to be a part of life in an organisations setup. Universities should be
nurseries of idea generation with the capabilities to translate it into a successful
innovation. In fact Universities are the plat-form for the innovations and incubating
modern industries.
CU is implementing this annual program to create an environment of innovation in the
campus among all the students and employees. Power of competition and freedom to
explore are the two basic principles to create a fertile ground for an idea generation and
innovation. Establishment of competition is an important step in this direction where
innovators will be provided an opportunity to generate and develop ideas. It will also
form a training ground for the students to steer the idea through different stages and
attain a successful innovation.
Mobilization, motivation and hand holding by the department and management will
turn them into successful innovators and thus leading to the successful entrepreneurs.
These budding innovators will be encouraged to patent and commercialise the products
or processes with the help of University Incubation centre.

Please come forward without any hesitation and got your idea
registered. We will come out to realise the same.

Rules and system of Innovation Competition

It is very important understand the various stages through which an idea travels to become
commercially viable innovation. We will have to design the competition in line with these
stages so that students can easily proceed from one stage to another to successfully
complete the innovation. These stages are equally important in experiential learning in
product and process design.

1. Publicity among the students and faculty members.

Before the start of this program a wide publicity has to be given among the students
and faculty members so that each one of them is given an equal opportunity for
registering their innovation on the first available date of registration
2. Idea Generation
In this stage a raw idea based on need is generated. Students and employees willregister
the idea with registration centre on first available opportunity.
3. Scrutiny and hand holding
This raw idea can have number of alternatives and shapes. Some senior faculty member
of the department or expert should help him shaping the idea. At this stage department
will allocate a faulty member for this purpose.
4. Refining the idea
Concerned person have gained more clarity about his idea and will be able to defend.
He will plead that his idea can be converted into a useful innovation.
5. Screening
An expert committee should be able to examine every idea put up to them. These
experts will examine the viability of each idea accordingly these ideas are classified.
6. Experimentation and Fine tuning
Selected ideas are further tested and fine tuning is done. It will crystallise the idea.
7. Commercialization and sustainability
Economic aspect of the idea is discussed in detail to project the commercial gains from
the innovation. All aspects of sustainability are examined if it is put to practice.
8. Diffusion
Timing of launch and easy entry in the existing system is an important aspect which is
decided by the organization.
9. Implementation
It is a stage of practical implementation

Open Idea Innovation Projects
1. Before Registration of open idea innovation wide publicity will be given to the
competition, so that students can come out with any idea in their mind. They must
register the same on the first available opportunity.
2. Reasonable time frame will be provided for the first Phase of open idea innovation. This
time could be one month in the first innovation Day program.
3. Students will be invited to register the idea during this period. The first one to register
will be owner of the idea. After this registration of any idea will remain open for 365
days in a year.
4. Registration at the centre will be department and category wise so that it can be easily
processed and co-ordinated.
5. Ideas generated will be communicated to the respective department for further

screening committee. The committee will put up all ideas into three categories i.e. Idea
fit for patent, idea fit for competition or can be consider later on.
9. Ideas fit for patent will be sent to committee for patent and incubation centre for legal
consideration or commercial exploitation.

fine tuning followed by considering the innovation for commercialisation and
sustainability.
11. All ideas fit for competition will be presented at the Annual Innovation Day.

Pre-defined Idea Innovation Projects

1. Social relevant problems are floated in this competition so that an innovative solution
is provided.
2. All students and faculty members are invited to attempt these problems by considering
various alternatives.
3. The groups must first explore the available solutions or technologies along with their
limitations then work out improved or alternative solutions.
