Theme: Drilling induced Delamination Characterization & Process Optimization of Nano
Polymeric Composites for Aerospace and Marine applications: An adequate amount of research
work has been carried out in analysing delamination due to drilling process in nano polymer matrix
composites from experimental and mathematical point of view using drill tools of various geometries and
varying operation parameters. The study also encompasses characterizing the delamination under the
addition of nano filler materials, use of blended epoxy resins, reducing the wear on drill tools, effect of nano
material dispersion and exfoliation of nano particles on machining, real time monitoring of drilling,
generation and reduction in subsurface crack growth during drilling, effect of stack supports and fiber
stacking order, producing higher quality holes and avoid de-burring. The current work also includes the
study of delamination and its effects using image processing and acoustic techniques, development of
mathematical models for drilling of composites reinforced with nano materials and blended resins.
