God gave us our families as a gift to us. But God was even more
generous for giving us the bigger family of CFC and YFC. We must
remember that here in YFC, we have a bigger family that we can turn to.
We have our Couple Coordinators, who act as second parents to us. We
have our brothers and sisters, whom we can seek for advice, help and
company. We have our fellow YFC friends who are there to give us that
sense of belongingness, love and friendship that we all need.

Our families and our bigger family in CFC and YFC are God’s gift to
us. He does this because God wants to surround us with love and make
us realize He can be found in families. Let us not be limited to loving,
honoring, and serving our biological families. Let us extend our horizon
and make our community a personal bigger family in our lives.

A man fell victim to robbers as he went down from Jerusalem to Jericho.

They stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half dead. A priest
happened to be going down that road, but when he saw him, he passed
by on the opposite side. Likewise a Levite came to that place, and when he
saw him, he passed by on the opposite side. But a Samaritan traveller who
came upon him was moved with compassion at the sight. He approached
the victim, poured oil and wine over his wounds and bandaged them. Then
he lifted him up in his own animal, took him to an inn and cared for him.

Note: To explain, the 4 characters are: the victim, the priest (respected men), the Levite (righteous
men at the time), the Samaritan (outcasts, considered unclean).

worked. His dad just shook his head. He didn’t know how it worked. The
kid asked his mom and everyone else in the family. They all shook their
heads. They did not know how the toy car worked. The kid decided to go

worked. She shook her head and pointed to a man standing near a shelf of
toy cars. He asked the man how his toy car worked. He shook his head. He
said he just stands there and sells the toy cars. Sad and tired, the kid went
on his way home. Suddenly, he stopped. He noticed something written
under his toy car. It is the address of the Toy Factory. He rushed to the
factory, hoping that his question would be answered.

In the Toy Factory, he was escorted to the person who could answer
his question. He meets the Toy Maker. The kid was told how his toy car
works. He was taught how to fix it and was shown a few more tricks that
only the Maker knew. The kid went home satisfied knowing what his toy

Story

I’ve never had much trouble with rules. Being somewhat compliant, I never
bristled when I was told in college that I had to wear certain clothes and be in by
a certain time.

Well, there was the time I was a bit upset because the dean told me my hair
was too long. I asked him if he couldn’t make an exception in my case. Since I
wasn’t going to have it much longer, I reasoned, couldn’t he allow me to wear it a

bit longer for sentimental reasons? He didn’t agree.

topic 41
Rules can sometimes seem silly, depending on your point of view. For instance,
isn’t it weird that the NBA had to fine players for wearing their shorts too long?
What’s with that? What possible problem could long shorts cause? Dare I say that
the rule against long shorts is oxymoronic at best? WILL OF GOD
There are silly rules, and there are important standards. We need to know the
difference. For instance, having a standard that says “Do not get drunk on wine,
instead, be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18) is anything but silly. It could save
you from a life of trouble. Or having a hard and fast rule that reminds you to “Flee value
sexual temptation” may save you more difficulties than you’ll ever know. Or setting
up a personal rule that says “I will turn my eyes away from worthless things” can’t
help but set us on the right path.
Knowing and understanding God’s call.

One way to make sure a standard is worth following is to consider where anchor verse
it came from. Those three rules mentioned in the previous paragraph are good
because they all came from the Bible. They are unmistakably important rules - “Father, if it is your will, remove this cup from me; still not my will but
meant to be followed without exception. yours be done.” (Luke 22:42)

1. To learn how to love and how to receive love from one’s family.
2. To understand that family members have different ways of showing
love.
3. To learn how to be patient and persevering in loving the members

1. Explain what “Love Language” means.
Love language is a person’s manner of expressing love in how
he understands it. It is his way of demonstrating love for the people
he relates with. Different people have different love languages.
Let’s try to find out how we express love to other people.

words, compliments, and affirmation. You need to hear that
you are loved more than being shown that you are loved.
b. Quality time – You feel loved when a person gives his/her

d. Physical touch – You don’t need words to feel love. When

e. Receiving gifts – You know that you are loved because things
are given to you. You feel loved even if small nothings are given
to you. To you, a note, a small remembrance, or something
that you like, if given to you would mean something big. (e.g.

receiving love, that each person can feel loved in a different
manner. Our family members are like that as well.
2. As YFC, we must strive to know the love language of our family

God’s Good Timing

Why does God wait until the money is gone? Why does He wait
until the sickness has lingered? Why does He choose to wait until the
other side of the grave answer the prayers for healing?

I don’t know. I only know that His timing is always right. I can
only say that He will do what is best… Though you hear nothing, He is
speaking. Though you see nothing, He is acting. With God there are no
accidents. Every incident is intended to bring us closer to Him.
