PHILIPPINE INVENTIONS

E-Jeepneys

- Runs on pure electricity supplied by rechargeable automotive batteries

- The units are powered by a state-of-the-art rechargeable automotive battery
- Aims to use energy from biodegradable waste from the city's wet markets, food establishments, and
households to power an environment-friendly public transport system.
- The Philippine Utility Vehicle (PhUV) pioneered the assembly of electric jeepneys in the Philippines
- If fully charged, the E- jeepney can run for a minimum of 65 km/s.
- Built for the preservation of energy and environmental repair
- Electric Jeepneys are an example of a concrete and viable way in which cities can contribute to reducing the
country’s greenhouse gas emissions.
- First e-jeepney is called “Darna”
- Each unit ranged from Php 700,000 to 750,000
- Private companies and educational institutions (Plantation Bay, Filinvest Land) stared using E-jeepneys

SALT Lamp (Sustainable Alternative Lighting Lamp)

- Invented by a Filipina scientist Aisa Mijeno

- “to light up the rest of the Philippines sustainability” is Aisa Mijeno’s vision of inventing the SALt Lamp
- Environment-friendly and an alternative light source that runs on saltwater, making it suitable.
- To provide health benefits because they are “natural ionizers,” meaning they change the electrical charge of
the circulating air.
- It can last for about eight (8) hours
- Received various awards from organizations in the Philippines, Singapore, Japan and South Korea

Compositions:

- Two table spoons of salt

- One glass of tap water
- Catalysts
- Metal alloys that when submerged in electrolytes will generate electricity

Multi-cooler fan

- Invented by Edgardo Vazquez in 1985

- Dubbed as “ aircon for the poor”
- A turbo version for industrial use with diameters of three (3) feet, seven (7) feet, fifteen (15) feet and twenty-
seven (27) feet.
- Based on Misty Kool mist-dispensing apparatus
- Sprays ultra-fine microns of water to cool off any area.
- It conserves energy and repels flying insects, dust, smoke and pollen

Consists of:

- Misting fan
- High-pressure pumps
- Fine nozzles
- Switches
- Oil indicator
- Programmable timer
- Automatic shut-off mechanism
- Hose
- Water tank
- Heavy duty wheels with lacking mechanism

Pinoy Hybrid Electric Train (HET)

- First launched on April 24,2019

- Introduced to us since 2015
- a 40-meter long train-like bus powered by hybrid diesel fuel and electric-powered battery
- It took five years to build HET and costs for about 120 million pesos
- HET Project offer key advantages since it’s locally made
- It can accommodate 880 passengers;it has CCTV systems, LED TV setups and automatic sliding doors.
- Paolo Acuin (DOST team head) described HET as kinetic energy lost when a train slows down, converting it to
electricity in the process.

Made out of:

- Diesel-powered generator
- Electric Motor
- Bank of electrical batteries
- Regenerative braking technology

Filipino Scientists

Raymundo S. Punongbayan (June 13, 1937-April 28, 2005)

- Graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology degree on UPD In 1960

- Obtained PHD in Geology from the University of Colorado in 1972
- Awarded the Sergey Soloviev Medal by European Geophysical Society in 2003
- Former director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOCS)
- Also served as the governor of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC)
- He made key observations crucial to the prediction of the eruption and was on TV and radio to warn people and
explain to them how deadly the eruption would be
- Conducted the initial investigations that gave warnings about the possible eruptions of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991
- After the Eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, he led a team to dig a drainage channel on the side of Mt. Pinatubo to help
save more lives from potential flash floods.
- Through his efforts, Phivolcs produced educational materials on volcano monitoring, earthquake and natural
hazards mitigation, and organized seminars and conferences that brought together local and international
experts in the fields of volcanology, seismology and natural hazards mitigation.
