CHAPTER I

Introduction

The major liability or drawbacks of communication lines comes because of the distortion

of electrical lines or lack of generation of electricity as like in remote areas or during disaster or

natural calamities. To set back such drawbacks, we need a renewable source of energy which can

function round the clock without any disruption. Solar power bank is one of its kind. It works on

the power of the sun, converting solar to electrical and helps in charging the cell phones which

can be used in communication, and thus, turns to be vital during disasters and power outage

( Dhal, 2016 ).

A power outage can have many different causes- extreme weather, human error,

equipment failure, supply/demand issues and etc. Home owners, businesses and cellphone users

need to prepare for and mitigate power outages as part of their daily lives which should have a

power backup solution, data backup & recovery, as well as a plan of how to resume operations

especially in their mobile phones and other electronic devices when they are using it ( Pereira,

2017 ).

The problem in the Philippines is the prices from electricity that goes to the different

cities and towns. This is a big problem for the citizens that live or visit the Philippines. Many

people in the Philippines must deal with rolling blackouts and outages. This is also a problem for

the government of the Philippines that’s why Filipinos are having difficult time to charge their

phone and save battery for future purposes ( Blaine, 2019 ).

Whether it’s due to an electrical issue or inclement weather, a power outage can leave you

feeling helpless. It’s always a good idea to be prepared for a power outage. While it’s a good
idea to stock up on nonperishable food, water, flashlights and extra batteries to prepare for this

type of situation, making sure your technology is ready in advance may be harder..

The Sun, our nearest and biggest star, is the biggest source of energy to us. The suns

radiation arrives at no cost and is available during any clear day. In the broad sense of the term,

solar energy includes wind, wave, biomass, and fossil fuel energy as well. All these forms of

originated as solar energy. It is a clean, safe source of energy. The energy itself is free. Solar

energy can be used in quite a few different ways ( Charanti, 2016 ).

Solar Mobile Phone Chargers has been prompted by the challenge to uncover other

possible means of charging of mobile phones especially where and when power supply becomes

erratic or totally inaccessible. This made solar charging one of the expedient alternative method

for charging mobile devices a necessity. Solar-powered battery chargers are portable devices that

use energy from the sun for charging power. they are a useful device to have around in

emergencies. ( All State Blog, 2015 )

An electric phone charger referred to as from now onwards as a “regular charger” is a

device used to “force” current into the battery of a mobile phone by converting pulsating

“alternating current” from an ac supply outlet, to dc “direct current” which is the type of current

required by a mobile phone. In a solar mobile phone charger, the ac supply outlet is eliminated,

since the required current and voltage is supplied by a dc cell known as a solar cell, which

converts solar energy into electricity. A solar charger provides an alternative source for charging

mobile phones and furthermore harnesses the use of the abundant solar ( Whada, 2016 )

Furthermore, regular chargers have an ac input and a dc output which means, they

definitely must have rectifier circuits and some sort of filter components to remove ripples, these
requirements are somewhat eliminated in the design of solar chargers. These are some major

differences in the design of regular electric phone chargers and solar chargers, but generally, their

mode of operation is the same. It is worth noting that while regular chargers generally differ from

solar chargers, regular chargers also differ one from another and solar chargers themselves have

differences in construction and circuit requirements. These variations in their individual designs

majorly depend on the level of efficiency required ( Whada, 2016 )

Another major advantage of a solar charger is that, it is mobile and could be used

anywhere, anytime as long as there is enough sunlight to make the solar cell produce the power,

phone being charged and this means that "on the move”charging is made possible by a solar char

ger, since it does not require a regular ac outlet electricity source ( Whada, 2016 )

Results and Discussion

This chapter presents the results of the study as well as the discussions of the said results.

This study was aimed to assess the performance of the invention.

Salient Features of the Solar Panel with a built-in mirror as an alternative to Commercial

chargers

1. Can be built at a fraction of the original cost of a commercial charger

2. Easily storable
3. Can be easily taken along anywhere
4. Does not require any use of electrical energy
5. Fast-charging due to the built in mirror that reflects the sun onto the solar panel
6.

This innovation called “ Solar Panel with a built-in mirror as an alternative to Commercial

Chargers ”, is to use sunlight of energy to charge the cellphone. In addition, this project uses a

built-in mirror in which solar energy reflects back to the solar panel making it fast to charge. The

solar energy will use to reduce the losses of the electricity. Moreover, the PV panels collect the

energy from the sunlight when the sunlight intensity equals 6 hours or more. However, the

sunlight intensity different in each country around the world so should know before start doing

any projects of solar energy.

Chapter IV

Summary of Findings, Conclusion and Recommendations

This chapter presents the summary of findings, conclusions and recommendations drawn

in this project to give the readers a brief understanding and comprehension of the present

invention.

Findings

Based on the analysis and interpretations of data presented in Chapter III, the salient

findings emerging from the present invention are summarized as follows.

1. The researchers have successfully added features in the existing solar panel chargers.

This is the built- in mirror for effectively fast charging.

Conclusions

After the researchers were able to enhance existing built in mirror into a solar panel

charger, the researchers have drawn the following conclusions :

1. It can be concluded that the enhancement of existing solar and commercial chargers is

successful because it has acquired some features other solar and commercial chargers

don’t have
2. From the experiment, it was discovered that there is a significant difference between the

innovation and the commercial chargers in terms of how fast they charge making it to

acquire more battery percent than the commercial ones.

3. We need bright and sunny weather for a better charging.
4. The panel wings should be placed under direct sunlight for better efficiency.
Recommendations

Based on the findings of the study, the researchers would like to pose the following

recommendations :

1. Include different kinds of solar panels and built in mirrors in the project to discover other

features that will help in modifying the Solar Panel with a built-in mirror as an

alternative to Commercial Chargers.

2. Work on including more commercial mobile phone chargers when doing the same project

to discover the significant difference of the Solar Panel with a built-in mirror as an

alternative to Commercial Chargers and other solar panel chargers in terms of how fast

they charge.
