of scrap wood underneath
the project. Drill a 1-inch-
diameter hole, centered
widthwise, through the wood
at each mark.
Step 3: Cut five 8-inch-long
pieces from the dowel. Apply
a small amount of construction
adhesive inside the drilled
holes. Insert a dowel piece
into each hole, sanding the
end as needed to fit. Allow
adhesive to dry. Secure the
four outside dowels from

screw is fastened through

mending plates will stabilize

New grants promote the education, community
service, and safety goals of SkillsUSA.
Lowe’s and SkillsUSA are building
something together: greater opportunities
for students. Through its Charitable and
Educational Foundation, Lowe’s will
contribute $500,000 in 2007 to educate
the next generation of contractors,
builders, and community volunteers
by offering grants through SkillsUSA.
The partners unveiled the project with

National Association of Home Builders
