Research Project Template

Your task:​ You will be identifying and researching an issue in your community, as well as
coming up with a way to use your voice to advocate for justice either by creating awareness or
by taking action. Please fill in this template sheet as you work on your project. Proper citation is
necessary for all research.

1. Research Topic:​ Discrimination against immigrant families and students.

2. Thesis Statement (This is the main point you are trying to make throughout your
project):​ Students should be allowed to stay in school and allowed to join any school
they want without being taken that privilege because of their race. Families shouldn’t be
sent apart from each other just because they don’t have what most Americans do to live
here.

3. What do you already know?​ I know that it is becoming a very big issue because
families who live in the US are getting separated due to something they didn’t choose or
haven’t committed any crimes and are still being discriminated due to their race and the
actions of others who weren’t apart of them in the first place. Students are being taken
away the opportunity of getting a good education and can’t join schools because they
are immigrant or have DACA.

4. What do you need to find out?

I need to find out why the problem started and why students who are not responsible for
anything that has happened aren’t allowed at certain school (Universities/Colleges) for
being who they are.
5. What are possible solutions to the issue you researched (hint- you may need to do
some research for this as well)?
You can protest / Stand up for others
6. What format will you use when creating your project? Why did you select this
format? (​Social Media Campaign, Blog, or Letters to Politician/ Authority​)
I will be doing a blog because i feel like that will help be say everything i need to say and
for others to know what is happening in the community and help bring awareness to
those who just want a better life for themselves and their families.
