What to visit?
San Agustín has an archaeological, cultural and nature wealth that is dispersed into
different parks, museums, galleries, mountains and forests. Each place has a piece
of history that is described and narrated through the artwork of a unique civilization
of the Colombian past.
Forest of statues
The variety of animal figures representing human actions along the forest near the
museum serves as a way to understand the mythological conceptions of the extinct
civilization. Most of the figures are molded in rocks and clay with a similar grey tone
in all of them positioned on small brick pedestals.
Plateau A,B,C
The tombs design, ancient gods sculptures and statues representing the physical
appearances of the original inhabitants, is remarkable along that area of the park.
The sun god and the eagle are two famous sculptures that illustrate the religious
practices, the social and political divisions of that age. Equally important, the
incredible traits molded in the rock as well as the details of colors and clothing style
are constant to see in each artwork in all the plateaus. Additionally, the foreigner´s
impressions and emotions are easy to perceive when walking along the sidewalks
and hills of the park.
La chaquira
The best landscape for taking unforgettable photos is a place with divinities carved
into mountain face. La chaquira overlooks the stunning gorge of the Magdalena river
surrounding by the imposing Magdalena canyon. The monument shows a woman's
figure with her arms raised looking at the east side of the canyon with other figures of
animals an human faces representing the indigenous people. For this, the wonderful
mixture of colors of the mountain ranges, the waterfalls and the sculptures are a
great remembrances of the geological and cultural past of San Agustin.
Finca el cielo
This is a real bargain hotel for groups of friends, students or big families that want to
experience the local hospitality and culture. The beams, the roof, the furniture made
of bamboo trees presents an indigenous architectural “resort” in modern days.

and a beautiful retreat of the landscape in the facade of the building to welcome
tourists.

simple accommodations needs. Of course, the building has a particular architectural
design that represents the local housing style. The hostel preserves a colonial
facade including a small balcony that combines with the sidewalks and the cobbled
road streets.
