The Park Church Giving Back

Charlotte, NC 一The Park Church has shown support for the community by focusing on the
children.

To kick off the summer, The Park entered into its ninth year with the Summer Feeding
and Reading Program. From June 12th to August 16th, kids and teens under the age of 18 will be
receiving a free nutritious lunch in a fun and safe environment. With the partnership of
Promising Pages, a donation of approximately 460 books was given to help build the kids/ teens
home libraries. Not only does the program provide free books and hot meals, they also
implement a source of entertainment through STEM Friday. This enables the kids to participate
in fun activities, such as creating personalized door hangars, decode a puzzle, and more. The
attitude towards reading has improved significantly since the program began.

Next, The Park hosted its fourth annual Summer Tech Fit Camp for the kids. This
technology camp aimed to expose 13 to 18 year olds to the media. The camp provided different
daily workshops that focused on video concepts, script writing, editing, music theory, fitness
education, etc. Minister Kevin Wilson, one of the coordinators for the camp, said, “The goal is to
put as many professionals in front of [the kids] so they’ll see the possibilities, career
opportunities, and learn and grow.” Kids/ teens were able to hear from and interact with some of
the top professionals in the field, like Caryn Smith from WCCB Charlotte. While giving a tour of
the studio and talking about what it’s like in the broadcasting business, the kids asked questions,
took pictures, and enjoyed their time. One of the campers, 13 year-old Kennedy Bellamy said,
“My experience has been great so far.” She continued, “I actually want to be a nurse, but I like
movies. Seeing [broadcast production] and how it works, I want to be a producer because it looks
fun. You can direct and help everybody and make things go smoothly, and I think that can be a
really fun job.”
Lastly, The Park Church is hosting an Elevate Back to School Lock-In and Celebration
before school starts. The celebration entails kids/ teens partaking in interactive activities that’ll
prepare them in the areas of (cyber) bullying, internet/ social media safety, organizational skills,
etc. After the activities, the kids/ teens will stay overnight at Sports Connection in Northlake
where they can take part in laser tag, arcade games, rock wall climbing, and more.
