Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research method. It focuses the

method used in conducting this research which covers research

design, sample, research instrument, intervention, and data collection

procedure.

Research Design

The researchers use Experimental Research Design. The design of

this study is experimental design because the researcher wants to

measure the effectiveness of oregano mosquito repellent as an

alternative for hazardous insecticides. Experimental research

according to Teresa Odle and Richard Meyer (2009) is based on a

methodology that meets three criteria: (a) random assignment—the

subjects (or other entities) are randomly assigned to treatment groups,

(b) experimental control—all features of the treatments are identical

except for the independent variable (i.e., the feature being tested),

and (c) appropriate measures—the dependent measures are

appropriate for testing the research hypothesis.

The Sample

The sample was determined through the use of Purposive

Sampling technique. The researcher used this type of sampling

technique to reduce the excessive use of hazardous chemical in

mosquito repellent.

A purposive sample is a non-probability sample that is selected

based on characteristics of a population and the objective of the

study. It is also known as judgmental, selective, or subjective sampling.

This type of sampling can be useful in situations when it needs to reach

a targeted sample quickly, and where sampling for proportionality is

not the main concern (Crossman, 2018).

Research Instrument

The instrument that will be used is an observation checklist. The

researchers will use the mosquito repellent in a place where

mosquitoes lives and observe the effectivity of the product. The

researchers will also provide a checklist when observing that will

include a criteria about how the oregano mosquito repellent is

effective in getting rid of mosquitoes.

Intervention

Research Material

The following are the ingredients and material used in the

construction of the Oregano Mosquito Repellent.

Ingredients:

• Dry Oregano Leaves

• Olive oil

• Water

Material:

• Spray Bottle

Research Procedure

In order to meet the target design, the researchers used the

following procedure in constructing the product Oregano Mosquito

Repellent.

1. Prepare all the said materials and ingredients.

2. Mix the dried oregano with the olive oil and the water in a separeted

bowl.
3. After mixing all the ingredients put all of the mixture inside the spray

bottle.

4. Must shake it before using.

Data Collection Procedure

The researchers first made five (5) titles as the Inquiry,

Investigative Immersion teacher asked them. After approving they

started to search and collect data related to their study to complete

the problem and its background. Then they proceed to study about

some related literatures, get different data’s and researched about

their said topic.
