Descartes attempts to doubt everything because he believes that everything he has believed or

accepted has come through senses, dreams and finally evil demon which as not reliable. He suggests
that because senses sometimes deceive us, he has no reason to trust them. In the first medication, he
points out that we are often deceived in dreams, that dreams are sensory experience which can lead us
astray.

Descartes even supposes that this God could cause us to err in mathematical and logical suppositions,
such as the belief that a square has four sides or that 2+3=5.
