INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT

i. Adaptation and adjustment to the industry

Adaptation

During my internship training at Paramount Property Construction, I have been

adapted to hazardous working culture which mean the safety and communication are
the core when working at construction site. Safety is an important thing for workers
when going to construction site for example, wearing full personal protection
equipment (PPE) is a must and cannot be tolerate if someone disobeyed the rule that
has been set by safety community.

There a lot of electrical and civil knowledges that I have learned during my
internship training and it was an exciting opportunity since my study was major in
mechanical engineering. Based on what I have learned that can be related to my study
was air conditioning system, firefighting system, electrical wiring system, plumbing
system and mechanical part such as lift installation. At construction, it more to the
system while compare to industry, it focusing on fabricate new things such as domestic
water tank.

Since managing and organizing the contractors was also one of my job scopes,
I able to improve my communication skill and give my best to help them do their work
at site.

Adjustment

Based on my opinion, reporting culture must be adapted to all worker to let

others know daily activities of subcontractor, issue occurred and work progress at site.
It will help main contractor to manage and organize pending work accordingly.
ii. Practice of occupational safety and health environment

• Safety signages at site which asked the workers to be

caution when do a work

• The scaffolds will get this green tag when the workers
asked safety supervisor to do an inspection.

• External barricade outside of building perimeter to

avoid the workers from walking near to lifeline area and
reduce the impact of object fell from high level.

• Trash bin in construction site to prevent the workers

from dumpi the trash everywhere and to care the cleaniness
of working area
• Temporary staircase to give access to the top floor for
workers to do work.

• Preston Superdeck (yellow) for safety purpose is being

used to receive or deliver construction materials from one
zone to another zone transported by tower crane.

• Warning sign for those who walk near to elevator shaft

so they can be caution when go through that way.

• Full personal protective equipment (PPE) by workers:

- Safety boot, safety helmet and safety vest.

• Toolbox meeting every Wednesday at 8.00 am to

increase awareness among workers and staffs about safety
at construction site.
• Barricade the excavation area

• Internal barricade at lift pit to avoid worker from go

near to free falling area.

• Good housekeeping practice at site by worker.

• Unused scaffold was being arranged neatly and it was a

good practice at site.
• Hand rails to be used for visitor and worker at temporary
access.

• Signal-man when transport the materials using tower

crane also a good practice that was implemented at site.

• Launching PPE campaign at construction site

organized by En Amar, our site safety supervisor and Mr
Devadass, SHO.
Lifting training organized by Site Safety Supervisor, En Amar with worker from all
trade such as from wiring, carpenter, brick, lift, barbender, acmv, excavation and signalman
workers.
