TEXTBOOK EVALUATION CHECKLIST

1. GENERAL ATTRIBUTES

(A) The book in relation to syllabus and curriculum

1. The book is matches to the specification of the syllabus

(B) Methodology

2. We disagree the activities in the coursework can be exploited fully and can
embrace the various methodologies in ELT as the activities does not really
have much various method in teaching and learning.

3. We disagree the activities can work well with methodologies in ELT as the
exercise only rely on writing only.

(C) Suitability to learners

4. We agree the coursework is compatible to the ages to the learners

5. We agree it is also compatible to the needs of the learners.

6. We agree it is compatible to the interests of the learners.

(D) Physical and utilitarian attributes

7. The layout is not really attractive as it does not have much visuals and plain.

8. We strongly disagree the coursework indicates efficient use of text and


visuals. There is a little visuals in the content and too much texts making it hard
for students to stay focus in class.

9. The coursework is durable enough as it have a thick layer of cover page.

10. The cost of this coursework is very expensive. The cost of it is RM107
compared to other coursework.

(E) Efficient outlay of supplementary materials

11. The book does not have audio-materials such as CD to aids the tacher in
teaching and learning session.

II. LEARNING - TEACHING CONTENT

(A) General
1. We agree most of the task in the book are interesting even though there are
some task in the book is repeatable.

2. Tasks move form simple to complex. The first task usually short and easy
and becomes difficult at the end of topic.

3. The task can be achievable for students even from under - achievers
although it can be difficult for them at first.

4. There is no cultural sensitivities in the book. All the topic is suitable for all
students from different culture.

5. As the difficulties in the coursework increase, the language will become


more difficult to understand without aids such as dictionary.

6. The situation created in the dialogues does not really sound natural and real
as the dialogues sometimes using complicated words.

(B) Listening

7. We agree the coursework has appropriate listening tasks with well-defined


goals. Although there is no CD for audio aids, the coursework have the website
for teacher to access the audio teaching aids using computers.

8. The tasks are quite efficiently graded according to complexity as at the end
of topic, the tasks will be more difficult yet achievable for students.

9. We agree the tasks are authentic or close to real language situations. There
is also some tasks that require students to practice English in daily
communications to improve their English language.

(C) Speaking

10. We agree the activities are developed to initiate meaningful communication.


Some tasks require students to communicate in English based on topic
situation.

11. The activities are not balanced between individual response, pair work or
group work as most activities more focus on individual response.
(D) Reading

12. The texts are graded as the difficulties increase in each topic.

13. Texts are quite interesting. The topic is interesting to keep the attention of
students throughout the entire lesson and there is more article in the
coursework.

(E) Writing

14. The tasks can be achievable and it take into consideration learner
capabilities. There is simple tasks and some more difficult tasks in the context
accordingly.

15. Tasks are interesting as there is summary, short essay and written
exercise in it. The coursework also provide enough example on how to write
and essay or summary on it.

(F) Vocabulary

16. We disagree the load (number of new words in each lesson) is appropriate
to the level. In the beginning of the topic, there are some words that are difficult
for students without the help from teacher.

17. There are not really good distribution(simple to complex) of vocabulary


loads across chapter and the whole books. Even in the beginning of the
chapter, there are some complex of vocabulary loads

18. Words are efficiency repeated and recycled across the books. It is easier
for students to understand the passage as the words are mostly repeated and
recycled.

(G) Grammar

19. We agree the spread of grammar is achievable and under-achievers also


can understand the meaning of it.
20. The grammar is contextualized and students can relate the grammar on
their daily situation.

21. Example is interesting as the grammar is related to students daily


conversation whether in formal or informal.

22. We agree the grammar is introduced explicitly and reworked incidentally


throughout the book. Students can understand the grammar as they come
across the grammar gradually throughout the lesson.

(H) Pronunciation

23. The pronunciation is contextualization. Even if the students cannot


understand on how to say it, teacher can guide them.

24. There is only a little complex charts in the coursework.

(I) Exercises

25. We agree the exercise are learner friendly and the exercise progression is
in simple exercise to complex exercise throughout the book.

26. There is enough exercise in the coursework. In every sub topic, there is
some exercise along with it.

27. The exercise help students who are under-achievers and over-achievers
as the exercise are varied from simple to complex exercise.
