Phone and Society – Free writing

Cellphones have a great impact on our society, at least 8 out of ten people own a phone in 2019 and I
am sure that most of us have use one in our lives. Why are phone so popular? Beyong from
communicating people, this device has changed how people use tools that used to be heavy and large.
An example of what a cellphone has replaced is the torch which used to be a heavy and non
rechargeable tool. Now, with a phone you have a torch just by opening an app. Uncountable objects
have been replaced by phones, or well, at least one part of our lives.

Let’s take for example music, TV or even reading. You do not have to carry all your CDs in your
bag because you can create a playlist on your phone. You can go online and check for the latest
programmes. And books, well you have the PDF and you do not have to carry all those heavy books to
school or university any more. Phones have made our lives easier and to “carry” since the least objects
we have to carry we us the simplest our lives have become. At the same time, it seems that what breaks
bounders between people, it separates people who are close to us. The recent upcoming of phones, apps
and social media has changed the way

Technology is very helpful to connect people with different personalities, points of view, nationalities
but share interests, hobbies, sometimes life experiences and dreams. This benefit reaches everyone,
including who experience troubles with social contact. They take advantage of this barrier of indirect
contact to make more comfortable their interaction with others. However, extreme support to online
social interaction could make people feel less human, forgetting share time in person with others, or
seeking acknowledgement from others posting private activities in social media. It is important
establish a limit for its use and a balance between interactions on and off virtual space.

To sum up, technology and society are closely related to help each other grow up in a technology
demanding world. The situation here is, whether technology is turning people to be apart from what it
means to be humans or rather it is closing a gap that did not allowed human interaction. If so, Human
interaction is evolving as technology and society is doing constantly.

Emepresa de Telecominicaciones de Bogota – ETB

I have written this letter to complain about the poor quality of your internet service. I have paid for a
5MB service but I have only received 1MB. I have called you several times throughout the week to
have the serviced I have been paying for or at least have my money back for such a terrible service I
receive. Based on the ministry of communication each customer who is not satisfied or who has not
received the service he/she has contracted could terminate the service contract under the given
circumstances.

1. The service is not the same that is written on the signed contract.
2. The service of internet does not fulfil with the requiems ETB and the costumer agreed upon.
3. The customer can apply to the reposition law as long as one part does not complete the contract
statement.
4. Unsatisfactory serviced that led to no positive answer from ETB to resolve the inconvenience.

Since the trouble has not been solved and any support has not been given I have decided to terminate
the contract of the Internet service I got on May 7th , 2010.

Documents are hold by means of support.

Sincerely

Writing Proposal

This writing proposal call “You won’t believe until you read it” is a 10-chapter book designed to learn
vocabulary based on funny and interesting stories in Bogota. I will search for each each story on
internet, newspaper, social media, radio or television programs. They will be translated and then
organised as a learning vocabulary tool for young adults. This books has simple illustrations of the
sories that were presented as well as a simple glossary of the vocabulary they will study. The idea of
the book is to introduce new vocabulary to young adults with interesting situations.

Steps on writing
The following steps will not only introduce the steps to writing but also the elements necessary to
complete the book.
1. Searching for information and stories about daily life in Bogota. This information might be
from stories in public transportation.
2. Prepare an outline to select the appropriate stories.
3. Selections of the 10 stories using the outline.
4. Selection of the appropriate vocabulary and expressions.
5. After each story has been chosen, I will translate and select the vocabulary for each unit.
6. Then I will start writing the story in each unit adding the an activity for each vocabulary
practice.
7. I will create a format to present the information as a learning book.
8. I will read and proofread after each chapter is completed. (proofreading may be led by teacher
or classmates).
9. Aligning and revising for further feedback.
10. Final project revision and presentation.
At the end of the project, the text will be shared via pdf to different students so they can check, revise
and learn new vocabulary with a reading- wiring approach that the book bring along. Since each
chapter of the book is a reading comprehension section that is close to meaning and to their daily life.

Target Group - Part C

The following project targets young adults who are learning English as a foreign language. They are
between 17 and 25 years old who are lacking from reading understanding and who want to learn new
vocabulary the easily.

Young adults are fully interested in stories that can catch their attention easily and they find such
interesting stories on internet. Creating awareness on daily life events may call young adults to read.
Young adults belong to the are middle social class who have elementary knowledge of English. This
target group does not have a broad knowledge of English but it is important that they can understand
basic texts. As the book itself helps young adults to reach a pre-intermediate level of English, they
ought to study the new vocabulary daily. The book will be work each week.

As middle class young adults they ought to have a closely relation with the text they are reading.
Bringing daily life events or storied as an approach in the learning of a foreign language. On the the
other hand, a level of education is not mandatory. As far as they have a level of literacy and they aim to
learning English.

Values and motivations

As they are learning English because they need the language for personal success, they will be
motivated to read real daily life events they are closely everyday, for example, stories in public
transportation, shocking experiences or funny events they have been even experienced. Middle class
young learner do not share the same values since they belong to different backgrounds but what make
this worthy for them is the fact that they will read something in English they feel familiar with and they
are learning English as well.

In the public transportation – C15 service

A typical morning in the city public transport system, everybody is a stranger and they are sleepy, tired
and it smells like a half of people have not taken a shower and the other have use too much perfume.
Everything seems normal from inside but here is my advise. Do not use use phone close to a window
while you take transmission. Here is why.

I was listening to music while a young lady, around 20 or 25 years old was chatting on her phone.
Everybody seems to be an stranger in Transmilenio, when suddenly I saw a hand getting from outside
the street trying to reach the woman’s phone. Everybody started to shout while the brown hand and the
woman where fighting to avoid having her cellphone stolen. I was in shock, I did not know what to do
because I did not even know what was happening. Every one was shouting “close the window” Some
passengers started to hit the brown hand until it stopped pulling and gave up by leaving the the place
with the phone.

The woman looked back and took his head out of the window to shout rude words to the man while
inside the bus people were gossiping around what should not be done in a public service, as using the
phone close to the window. Everybody took their cellphone in the pocket and they stopped doing
anything with them I saw people putting the phone into their underwear and some women into their
bra.

I was wondering how he was able to reach the window from outside. I thought I could have been a
chair or even a ladder. But I was wrong, It was another man who he was standing up his shoulders.
Even though it was just 5 seconds, I was able to see each action since a brown hand took her phone.

“This is something that happens everyday” said a woman, “if we could use such intelligence to do
better things for our society, we could have a better society. Then there was only silence while I was
about to get off. It seemed like nothing happened even though everyone was a bit scared and nervous.
