Awards &Honours
Thanu got MP Birla Memorial Award
• Physicist Thanu Padmanabhan received the M P Birla Memorial Award 2019 for his contributions to the
world of cosmology.
• He is a professor of Inter-university Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics in Pune.
• The award was introduced in 1993 in recognition to the excellence in research in Astronomy, Astrophysics,
Space Science and related areas.
Greta Thunberg wins 'alternative Nobel Prize'
• Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg was named as one of four winners of the 2019 Right
Livelihood Award, known as Sweden's alternative Nobel Prize.
• Thunberg won the award for inspiring and amplifying political demands for urgent climate action reflecting
scientific facts.
• She shares the award with Brazilian indigenous leader Davi Kopenawa of the Yanomami people.
CIAL won an international award
• Cochin International Airport Ltd has been selected as the best airport in terms of services it offered to
passengers, based on a survey conducted by Airport Council International (ACI).
• CIAL was emerged the topper in 5-15 million passenger category among the airports in the Asia-Pacific
region.
• It ranked amongst the best airports in the 5-15 mn category in the Asia Pacific region for 2018.
National Tourism Awards 2017-18 presented
• Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu presented the National Tourism Awards 2017-18 on World Tourism Day
in New Delhi on 27 September 2019.
• A total of 76 Awards under various categories were presented.
• On this occasion, a workshop on ‘Tourism Jobs of the Future’ was also organized by UNWTO in
collaboration with its affiliate member in India, Outlook Responsible Tourism Initiative.
Infosys bagged UN Global Climate Action Award
• Infosys has received the United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category.
• Infosys is the only corporate from India to earn the recognition for its efforts to combat climate change.
• The announcement of the winners was made after the UN Climate Summit in New York convened by UN
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Payal Jangid received the Changemaker Award
• Payal Jangid became the 1st Indian to receive the Changemaker Award 2019 at the Goalkeepers Global
Goals Awards 2019.
• The Award was presented by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at a ceremony held in New York, US.
• She is the President of her village’s Bal Panchayat.
• She was awarded for her work towards the abolition of child marriage in her village and other neighbouring
areas.
National Water Mission Awards 2019 presented
• NWM, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti
has initiated the ‘National Water Mission Awards’ to recognize excellence in water conservation, and
efficient water use.

• NWM has 5 goals and 39 strategies prescribed in the Mission Document.


• The awards are given in 10 categories defined under 5 goals of NWM.
PT Usha honoured with IAAF Veteran Pin
• International Association of Athletic Federations, (IAAF) honoured the Indian track and field legend PT Usha
with a Veteran Pin in recognition of her contribution to the growth of the sport.
• IAAF chief Sebastian Coe presented her the Veteran Pin during the 52nd IAAF Congress at Doha.
• At the 1982 New Delhi Asian Games, she won silver medals in 100m and 200m events.
National unity award named after Sardar Patel
• The Centre has instituted the highest civilian award for contribution to the unity and integrity of India, in
the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
• The award seeks to recognize notable and inspiring contributions to promote the cause of national unity
and integrity and to reinforce the value of a strong and united India.
• The award will be announced on National Unity Day on 31 October 2019.
Ramanujan prize for U.K. mathematician
• The SASTRA Ramanujan prize for 2019 will be awarded to Adam Harper.
• Mathematician Adam Harper is an Assistant Professor with the University of Warwick, England.
• The prize is conferred annually on mathematicians from across the world who are less than 32 years of age
and working in an area influenced by the genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.
• The prize carries a citation and an award of $10,000.
Amitabh named for Dada Sahab Phalke award
• Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has been named for the prestigious Dada Sahab Phalke award for his
outstanding contribution to the film industry.
• The award is conferred by the Government for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of
Indian Cinema.
• It consists of a Swarn Kamal and a cash prize of ten lakh rupees.
PM Modi received Global Goalkeeper award
• PM Narendra Modi was conferred the "Global Goalkeeper" award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by his government.
• Over 11 crore toilets were built in the country in the last five years, which is a record.
• The cleanliness campaign was launched by the Modi government during its first term on October 2, 2014.
Messi won FIFA player of the year awards
• Lionel Messi won his 6th FIFA player of the year award, while Megan Rapinoe won her first at Milan’s iconic
Teatro all Scala on 24 September 2019.
• Rapinoe was rewarded at the FIFA Best awards for leading the US to the women’s World Cup title in July
2019.
• She scored six goals in the tournament, earning her the Golden Boot for the tournament’s top scorer and
the Golden Ball as the top player.
71st Emmy Awards 2019 declared- I
• The 71st Emmy Awards were held in Los Angeles on 22 September 2019.
• Game of Thrones wrapped up its run with an Emmy for best drama series -- and 12 total for its final season.

• Senior journalist and Ramon Magsaysay awardee, Ravish Kumar has received the 1st Gauri Lankesh
National Award for Journalism.
• The award was conferred by the Gauri Lankesh Memorial Trust.
• The award was presented to him by freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy.
• Three books, Neera Nade by Vinaya Okkunda, Dehali Nota by D. Umapathy, and Maatige Enu Kadime, by
Harshakumar Kugwe, were released.
Nigam won Magnificent Performing Arts Award
• Sonu Nigam was honoured with the Magnificent Performing Arts Award at the annual 21st Century Icon
Awards in London.
• Nigam was among a host of winners across a range of categories at a gala awards ceremony.
• The 21st Century Icon Awards were initiated by UK-based Indian-origin entrepreneurs and co-founders of
Squared Watermelon Ltd. Tarun Ghulati and Preeti Rana.
Raghu Rai wins international photography award
• Renowned Indian photographer Raghu Rai has been chosen as the first recipient of the inaugural edition of
the 'Acadmie des beaux-arts Photography Award - William Klein'.
• The award is in honour of the photographer and filmmaker William Klein, best known for his unusual
photography techniques.
• The prize is intended to reward a photographer for their entire career
Greta Thunberg wins human rights award
• Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg and the Fridays for Future youth movement received
Amnesty International’s ‘Ambassadors of Conscience’ award.
• The award was given for their work highlighting the need for urgent action to avert climate disaster.
IIFA awards held-II
• Best Debut Actor and Actress was given to Ishaan Khatter for Dhadak and Sara Ali Khan for Kedarnath,
respectively.
• Best Playback Singer was given to Arijit Singh, Harshdeep Kaur, and Vibha Saraf.
• Saroj Khan was honoured for her Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema.
• Best Story was awarded to the film Andhadhun.
• Best Lyrics was given to Amitabh Bhattacharya for Dhadak.

IIFA awards held- I


• The IIFA (The International Indian Film Academy Awards) were held in Mumbai recently.
• Alia Bhatt received the Best Actor (Female) award for Raazi and Ranveer Singh bagged the Best Actor (Male)
Award for 'Padmaavat'.
• Sriram Raghavan won Best Director for AndhaDhun.
• Best Supporting Actor and Actress was given to Vicky Kaushal for Sanju and Aditi Rao Hydari for Padmaavat,
respectively.
National Geoscience Awards conferred
• The National Geoscience Awards for the year 2018 for outstanding contributions in the field of geosciences,
mining and allied areas were presented to 22 scientists from across the country.
• Prof. Syed Wajih Ahmad Naqvi, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), received the Award for
Excellence.
• Dr Sohini Ganguly of Goa University was conferred with the Young Scientist Award-2018.
Anand Kumar felicitated with an award
• Super 30 founder Anand Kumar was felicitated in the US with Education Excellence Award 2019.
• The Foundation For Excellence (FFE) awarded him on the occasion of the organisation’s 25th anniversary.
• Anand has been running a highly innovative Super 30 programme for the last 18 years.
• He mentors 30 students free off cost through a year-long residential coaching for India’s premiere IIT-JEE.
Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar presented
• Labour and Employment Minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar gave away the Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar
& National Safety Awards for the Year 2017 in New Delhi.
• 28 awards were given for Vishvakarma Rashtriya Puruskar while 81 winners bagged the National Safety
awards.
• The Minister said, his ministry has planned to set up regional offices of technical wing of the Ministry in
Kashmir.
Neena Gupta won two awards
• Bollywood actress Neena Gupta has won 2 awards at Indian International Film Festival of Boston.
• The actress won the Best Actress award for ‘Badhaai Ho‘ and her film ‘The Last Color‘ emerged victorious in
Best Feature Film category.
• ‘The Last Color’ was directed by chef Vikas Khanna.
• The film deals with taboo surrounding widows in Vrindavan and Varanasi in India.
Agnes Kharshiing conferred Hrant Dink Award
• Meghalaya-based rights activist Agnes Kharshiing, who survived an assault by the coal mafia almost a year
ago, received the 11th International Hrant Dink Award.
• She received the award along with Turkish activist against male violence, Nebahat Akkoc.
• The Hrant Dink Award is presented every year to individuals, or groups that work for a world free from
discrimination, racism and violence.
IIFA comes home with first ceremony in India
• The international Indian film academy awards are to be held in India for the first time in their history.
• Mumbai will host the 20th IIFA awards ceremony on 18 September 2019.

• The event has been held in countries around the world since it began in 2000, with previous host cities
including London, Toronto and Singapore, and most recently Bangkok.
Bangladesh: PM Hasina received Award
• PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh was conferred the Dr Kalam Smriti International Excellence Award 2019 in
Dhaka on 16 September 2019.
• The award has been instituted in the memory of former Indian President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
• The award citation lauded Prime Minister Hasina for her vision of a peaceful and prosperous South Asia,
free of tension, conflicts and terrorism.
Eminent Engineers Award conferred
• Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board was awarded with Eminent Engineers Award.
• The award was presented at the special event to mark the 52nd Engineers’ Day organised by the Institution
of Engineers in New Delhi on 15 September 2019.
• The award was given for his outstanding contributions in the field of engineering.
• The theme of 52nd Engineers’ Day was Engineering for change.
Ambassador Navdeep Suri honoured by UAE
• UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has bestowed the First Class Order of Zayed II award on
Ambassador, Navdeep Singh Suri.
• The award was given in recognition of his efforts during his tenure and his contribution to the development
and strengthening of friendly relations and co-operation between the two friendly countries.
• It is a rare honour given to any diplomat.
Bangladesh School project wins Aga Khan Award
• An innovative project for constructing a floating school for marginalised children in Bangladesh has been
awarded the prestigious Aga Khan Architecture Award 2019.
• The award was given to the Republic of Tatarstan for the Arcadia Education Project in South Kanarchor of
Bangladesh.
• The project involved the construction of a school in an area which is underwater during the monsoon
months.
5 Indian women police officers honoured by UN
• 5 Indian women police officers were honoured by the United Nations for their commendable services in UN
mission in South Sudan.
• These are Reena Yadav, Gopika Jahagirdar, Bharati Samantray, Ragini Kumari, and Kamal Shekhawat.
• The women officers were honoured with medals by the United Nation for upholding the UN mandate of
protection of civilians in conflict-ridden South Sudan.
CBSE Teacher Awards - 2018 presented
• Union HRD Ramesh Pokhriyal ' Nishank' presented CBSE Teacher Awards - 2018 to 34 teachers of the
country on 12 September 2019.
• He also launched CBSE's portal 'Vidyadhan' on Diksha App, a Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge
Sharing (National Forum for Teachers) and released CBSE's annual activity calendar.
• He also released 10 CBSE Manuals on various subjects like art integration.
Pawan Munjal to be honoured

• MD and Chairman of Hero MotoCorp, Pawan Munjal will be inducted into the 2019 Asia Pacific Golf Hall of
Fame.
• He will be inducted for his support to Golf in India and around the world.
• The induction ceremony will be held at the 2019 Asian Golf Awards Gala Banquet.
• With the honour, he will join the legendary players such as Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player who were
bestowed with the same.
Boycott & Strauss honoured with knighthoods
• England cricket greats Geoffrey Boycott and Andrew Strauss have been given knighthoods by Theresa May
in her resignation honours list.
• Both received the honour for their services to sport after outstanding careers for England.
• Geoffrey played 108 tests between 1964-1982 for England and scored 8,114 Test runs.
• Andrew played 100 tests for England from 2004-12, scoring more than 7,000 runs.
Recipients of Visitor’s Awards 2019 announced
• Recipients of Visitor’s Awards 2019 were announced on September 09, 2019 by the President’s Secretariat.
• This year Visitor’s Awards will be presented for Research in - Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; Physical
Sciences; and Biological Sciences and Technology Development.
• The Visitor’s Award for Research in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences will be presented to Prof. Sibnath
Deb.
Joker won Golden Lion at Venice film festival
• Film Joker won the Golden Lion Award at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on 7 September 2019.
• Jury president Lucretia Martel announced the winners of the prestigious award during a ceremony on the
Lido.
• Roman Polanski’s Dreyfus affair film, An Officer and a Spy, won the grand jury prize.
• Roy Andersson won best director for About Endlessness.
'Oscar Of Science' Award announced
• The team from the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration project won the ‘Breakthrough Prize in
Fundamental Physics’ - an award considered the ‘Oscars of Science’.
• The team won a prize of $3 million for their work.
• The Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration project published the first image of a supermassive black hole.
Railways won award
• Shri Ram Nath Kovind presented an award to Indian Railways as the best ministry for implementation of
Swachhata action plan for 2018-19.
• He also presented the best Swachh iconic Place award to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai
under the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative.
• The three best stations as per Cleanliness Ranking Survey for 2018 were Jodhpur, Jaipur & Tirupati.
Institute of Eminence status to 5 institutions
• The HRD Ministry awarded the Institute of Eminence status to 5 public institutions.
• The status was awarded to the following institutions: IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, Delhi University, Benares
Hindu University, University of Hyderabad.
• Each of the above university has to sign a MoU with the HRD Ministry and will lay out its plan to achieve the
objective of becoming a world-class institution.

Odisha won the IT Excellence Award


• Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) has won the IT Excellence Award, 2019.
• It has won the award for its innovative conception of app by using information technology in the field of
disaster management.
• The app is named SATARK - System for Assessing, Tracking and Alerting Disaster Risk Information based on
Dynamic Risk Knowledge.
Annual Kaushalacharya Awards announced
• The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) organized Kaushalacharya Samadar 2019
to felicitate trainers from different sectors.
• A total of 53 trainers from diverse backgrounds were honored.
• The Ministry also announced the Kaushalacharya Awards would be an annual event to recognize the
contribution made by skill trainers in the vocational training ecosystem.
States felicitated under BBBP Scheme
• The Union Minister of Women and Child Development and Textiles, Smriti Zubin Irani felicitated districts
and states which have successfully implemented the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
• The felicitation and award function was held in New Delhi on 6 September 2019.
• The BBBP scheme was launched on 22nd January, 2015. Now it is being implemented in 640 districts.
Muhammad Yunus conferred Lamp of Peace award
• Nobel Laureate from Bangladesh Professor Muhammad Yunus was conferred the 'Lamp of Peace of Saint
Francis ' award by the Vatican for his contribution towards establishing peace and harmony.
• The award is a recognition for distinguished work by an individual for promoting peace and dialogue among
people.
• The award was first given to the Polish trade union leader Lech Walesa in 1981.
National Award to Teachers-2018 conferred
• President Ram Nath Kovind conferred National Award to Teachers-2018 in New Delhi on 5 September 2019.
• The national level awards are given to teachers on Teachers' Day to celebrate the unique contribution of
some of the finest teachers in the country.
• The award carries a Silver Medal, Certificate and Rs. 50,000/- as award money.
Vaishno Devi topped in ‘Swachh Iconic Places’
• Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir has been adjudged as the“Best Swachh Iconic place in
the country in the ‘Swachh Iconic Places’.
• It has been adjudged on the basis of the overall improvement in sanitation.
• President Ram Nath Kovind will confer the award to its board during the ‘Swachh Mahotsav’ to be
organised by Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation on 6 September 2019.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus won top honours
• Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) has won the best Swacch Iconic Place award for 2019,
topping the charts in cleanliness.
• The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has declared phase I of
the Swacch Icon Awards.
• The award will be given at a ceremony during the Swacch Mahotsav in Delhi on September 6, 2019.

PM Modi to be awarded by Bill & Melinda Found.


• PM Narendra Modi will be conferred with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, for the PM's ambitious pet
project, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
• Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was one of the first few ambitious projects that PM Modi launched in his first
term in 2014.
• The project was launched as an ode to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary on October 2, 2014.

Noida girls win U.S. tech prize


• The all-girl team ‘Tech Witches’ from Noida have developed a mobile App, called Maitri, that connects
children at orphanages with senior citizens in old-age homes.
• ‘Maitri’ clinched the bronze medal at the Technovation Challenge, the world’s largest technology and
entrepreneurship programme for girls, held in San Francisco.
• Maitri allows old-age homes and orphanages to organise meetings.
BBC journalists win Kalinga-FCC Awards
• Journalists from media organisations such as Reuters, BBC, and Germany-based European Press Photo
Agency (EPA) won awards at the Kalinga-FCC Awards for Excellence in Journalism for 2019.
• The awards are aimed at encouraging extensive and informed coverage in the global media of India and
seven other countries in South Asia.
• Each awardee received a cheque for Rs 1,00,000 and a trophy.
HPCL Bags ‘Best Navratna’ Award
• HPCL bags ‘Best Navratna’ award in ‘Manufacturing Category’ at Dun & Bradstreet PSU Awards 2019.
• The award ceremony was held on 22 August 2019 at New Delhi.

• Dun & Bradstreet PSU Awards have been instituted to recognise and felicitate the top-performing PSUs in
India for business excellence and acknowledge their contribution in the socio-economic development of the

World Heart Day 2019: September 29
• World Heart Day (WHD) is observed annually on 29 September across the world.
• The day which is celebrated annually creates awareness of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) including heart
disease & stroke and highlights the preventive and control measures.
• It was launched in 2000 by the World Heart Federation as an annual event.
• The theme for the World Heart Day 2019 is My Heart, Your Heart.
Days and Events
• WHO observes World Rabies Day on 28 September every year. The day is celebrated annually to raise
awareness about rabies prevention and to highlight progress in defeating this horrifying disease.
• The UN observes International Translation Day on 30 September every year. International Translation Day is
meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals.
Int. Day for Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
• The UN observes 26 Sept every year as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
• The day provides an occasion for the world community to reaffirm its commitment to global nuclear
disarmament as a priority.
• It provides an opportunity to educate the public – and their leaders – about the real benefits of eliminating
such weapons.
World Maritime Day: 26 September
• The United Nations observes 26 September every year as the World Maritime Day.
• The theme for 2019 is: Empowering women in the maritime community.
• It provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality, in line with the United
Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, and to highlight the important yet under-utilized contribution of
women within the maritime sector.
World Tourism Day: 27 September
• The United Nations observes 27 September every year as World Tourism Day.
• The UN World Tourism Organization expects that tourism will continue to grow at an average of 3%
annually until 2030.
• The sector also represents an estimated 10% of the world’s GDP and 1 in 10 jobs globally.
• Theme for 2019: Tourism and Jobs: A Better Future For All.
World Rose Day 2019: 22 September
• Every year Sept 22 is observed as World Rose Day.
• This day, celebrated in the memory of 12-year-old Melinda Rose from Canada, aims at introducing sparks of
happiness into the lives of people who are fighting cancer.
• Melinda Rose was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer, Askin’s Tumour.
• While doctors said she wouldn’t survive more than a couple of weeks, she lived on for 6 months.

• International Day of Sign Languages is observed on 23 September globally.


• The day aims to create awareness to bring out the importance of sign language in the full realization of the
human rights of people who are deaf.
• It also aims to preserve the sign languages as a part of linguistic and cultural diversity.
• The theme for the year 2019 is Sign Language Rights for All!
World Alzheimers Day: 21 September
• World Alzheimer's Day is observed on 21 September every year.
• The month of September is dedicated to bringing awareness about Alzheimer's and other dementia
conditions.
• As per 2018 World Alzheimer Report, over 50 million people worldwide suffer from the disease.
• The theme for World Alzheimer's Month 2019 is Raising awareness and challenging stigma.
International Day of Peace: 21 September
• Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September.
• The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within
and among all nations and peoples.
• The theme for International Day of Peace 2019 is Climate Action for Peace.
• The UN Headquarters: New York, United States.
World Bamboo Day: 18 September
• World Bamboo Day is observed every year on 18 September by the World Bamboo Organization to
generate awareness about conserving and promoting the bamboo industry.
• Known as poor man’s timber, bamboo is omnipresent in tribal cultures and community living.
• From artifacts to sustainable architecture, bamboo remains a favourite as it’s fast to grow, low on

Tripartite mechanism for Rohingya Repatriation

implementing the agreements they already have.
• Bangladesh has more than nine lakh Rohingya refugees.

• NASA has said that the Houston building where Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong and his colleagues

Amazon vows to be carbon neutral by 2040
• Amazon.com Inc CEO Jeff Bezos committed the company to being carbon neutral by 2040 and said part of
that pledge is an order for 100,000 electric delivery vans from a start-up the online retailer has invested in.
• The first electric delivery vans for Amazon will be on the road by 2021, and all 100,000 will be deployed by

• Sri Lanka unveiled South Asia’s tallest tower, costing over $100 million, 80% of which has been funded by
China under the controversial Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
• The 350-metre-tall 17-storey Lotus Tower is located in the heart of Colombo city.
• The tower is spread over an area of 30,600 sq. metres.

• New York became the second US state to ban flavored e-cigarettes, following several vaping-linked deaths.
• A health council passed emergency legislation proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo outlawing flavored
vaping products amid an outbreak of severe pulmonary disease that has killed seven people and sickened
hundreds.
• Michigan became the first state to declare a ban on it.

• The 38th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) will be organized from 30th of October to 9th

• Krishi Kisan app will provide farmers with the information of high-yielding crops and seeds in their nearby
area.
Power scheme for tenants launched
• Delhi government announced a new scheme under which people residing as tenants in Delhi will be able to
avail power subsidy.
• The name of the scheme is 'Mukhyamantri Kirayedar Bijli Meter Yojna'.
• Under the scheme, there is no charge for the electricity consumption of up to 200 units.
Odisha launches mascot 'Tiki Mausi'
• Odisha's Women and Child Development (WCD) department unveiled a mascot ‘Tiki Mausi’ to popularise
programmes and schemes of the department.
• Tiki Mausi will also disseminate information about various services like Sakhi centres and schemes like

UP govt announced aid for triple talaq victims
• CM of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath announced an annual support of ₹6,000 to the victims of triple talaq
till their rehabilitation and they will get free legal aid.
• The victims of triple talaq come under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK).
• Govt will give rights over waqf properties and also call for several welfare measures that should be
undertaken for their rehabilitation.
Housing loan subsidy scheme launched in Assam
• The Assam Government launched a housing loan subsidy scheme to provide financial assistance on
purchase or construction of the first house for a family.
• Subsidy up to 2 lakh 50 thousand rupees will be provided for loan amounts from 5 lakh to 40 lakh rupees.
• This scheme is meant for the loan sanctioned in this financial year.
• This initiative would provide impetus to the economy.
J&K issued highest number of golden cards
• J&K has become the 1st state in India to issue highest number of golden cards under Ayushman Bharat-
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
• Over 11 lakh golden cards have been generated within first 90 days.
• Under the scheme, 155 Hospitals including 126 public and 29 private hospitals have been empanelled to
provide free and cashless treatment to the entitled beneficiaries.

Centre to give support of Rs 8,500 cr to ECGC
• The Central government will give support of Rs 8,500 crore to Export Credit Guarantee Corporation of India,
ECGC, in the next five years.
• Interest rates will now be just close to 3.5 per cent.
• ECGC has introduced a scheme called Niryat Rin Vikash Yojana - NIRVIK to enhance loan availability to
exporters.
• The scheme will also help ease the lending process.
‘Mukhyamantri Dal Poshit Yojana’ launched
• ‘Mukhyamantri Dal Poshit Yojana’ was launched in Uttarakhand on 13 September 2019.
• Under the scheme, two kilogrammes of pulses per month would be made available to 23.32 lakh ration card
holders.
• Under the Dal Poshit Yojana, chick pea is being made available at a rate of Rs 44 per kg this month.
• The current market rate of this pulse is Rs 65 to 70 per kg.

• The central government has notified the ambitious e-assessment scheme also called the faceless
assessment for income-tax payers.
• The centre will serve notices to the assessees specifying the issues for selection of their case for assessment
and after a response is received from them within 15 days, the centre will allocate the case to an assessing
officer using an automated system.
Odd-even scheme to be implemented in Delhi
• Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that odd-even road rationing scheme will be implemented in Delhi
from November 4 to 15, 2019.
• The move was aimed at combating high levels of air pollution in winters when crop stubble burning takes
place in neighbouring states.
• Under the scheme, odd and even-numbered vehicles ply on alternate days. Delhi has earlier also
experimented with Odd-Even plan.
Maritime communication services launched
• Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad launched
maritime communication services.
• He also launched a web portal for reporting stolen mobiles to help trace them.

• The State government of Haryana launched 2 insurance schemes for registered small and medium traders.

• An insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh would be provided under the former one.

CHC Farm Machinery App launched
• Minister of State for Agriculture, Parshottam Rupala has launched a multilingual Mobile App CHC Farm
Machinery during a conference on Crop Residue Management in New Delhi.
• The app will allow farmers to avail custom hiring services of CHCs located in a radius of 50 km.
• With the help of it, the farmers will now be able to get affordable access to cutting-edge technology at their
doorsteps.
J&K govt to roll out MISP Scheme
• In J&K, the Special Market Intervention Price Scheme (MISP) will be rolled out to procure nearly 12 Lakh
Metric Tons of Apple from farmers of Kashmir on remunerative prices.
• Nearly 60% of the estimated annual Apple production will be procured from the Apple growers nearer their
doorsteps.
• The period of procurement would be for six month beginning 1st of September 2019.
Kisan Man Dhan Yojana to be launched on 12 Sep
• PM Narendra Modi will launch Kisan Man Dhan Yojana (KMDY) scheme during his visit to Jharkhand on
September 12, 2019.
• It will secure the lives of 5 crore small and marginal farmers by providing a minimum pension of Rs 3,000
per month to those who have attained the age of 60.
• He will also inaugurate 400 Ekalvya Model Residential schools.
Rs 125 crore allotted to IIT-Kharagpur
• IIT Kharagpur has been selected for setting up a Sophisticated Analytical and Technical Help Institute
(SATHI), a Department of Science and Technology initiative of the Centre, for which Rs 125 crore has been
earmarked over a period of three years.
• The primary objective of the SATHI will be to extend help to the academic institutes in the neighbouring
regions.
Govt launches updated CLSS Scheme
• The government of India launched the updated Credit linked Capital Subsidy Scheme (CLCSS) to allow micro,
small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) access to capital.
• The scheme provides an upfront subsidy of 15% on institutional credit up to Rs 1 crore for MSMEs in the
specified 51 sub-sectors.
• The government will also prepare a final report on the recommendations of the U K Sinha committee.
First Mega Food Park in Telangana
• Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Smt. Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated the first Mega Food
Park in Telangana.

NASA launches miniature satellite
• The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has launched a miniature satellite designed by
Aabhaas Sikka from NASA's Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility.
• The satellite is named 'RamanSat 2' and measures 4 cm x 4 cm x 4 cm.
• The satellite is made to measure radiation from the sun and space reaching the Earth.
The Second Interstellar Object detected
• The second interstellar object has been officially detected in the Solar System.
• According to the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the comet is 'unambiguously' interstellar in origin,
and it has now been given a name: 2I/Borisov.
• In 2I, I stands for 'interstellar', and 2 for being the second interstellar object ever discovered, after
'Oumuamua, which was detected in October 2017.
World's Biggest Amphibian discovered
• A newly-identified amphibian is possibly the world's biggest, new research of museum specimens shows.
• According to Phys.org, researchers from the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and London's Natural
History Museum identified new species of giant salamander using DNA from museum specimens.
• The species that is probably the largest has now been given a new name: Andrias sligoi.
Astronomers discover water vapor in atmosphere

Cryodrakon boreas: The largest flying animal
• Scientists have unveiled a newly discovered species of a pterosaur, the largest ever flying animal according
to a study conducted by Queen Mary University in London.
• These species come from the Azhdarchid group of pterosaurs.
• The pterosaur’s name Cryodrakon boreas roughly translates to ‘frozen dragon of the north wind’.
India to launch deep sea research project
• India will launch ‘Samudrayaan’ project in 2021-22.
• The project proposes to send a submersible vehicle with three persons to a depth of about 6000 metres to
carry out deep underwater studies.
• The vehicle is capable of crawling on the sea bed at a depth of six-kilometre for 72 hours.
• The 'Samudrayaan' project undertaken by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).
Lander Vikram lost its communication
• The lander of the lunar craft Chandrayaan 2 went incommunicado just minutes before its planned soft
landing near the moon's South Pole on 7 September 2019.
• Vikram Lander descent was initiated as planned and normal performance was observed up to an altitude of
2.1 km.
• Subsequently, the communication from the Lander to the ground stations was lost.
• The data is being analyzed.
NASA and the European Space Agency to meet
• NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) will meet in Rome to discuss their plan for planetary defence
against asteroids.
• The two-part mission dubbed Asteroid Impact Deflection Assessment plans to collide with Asteroid
Didymoon- the smaller of the Didymo's binary system.
• NASA is in charge of conducting the actual impact while ESA will analye the aftermath.
World's First iPS Corneal Transplant
• A Japanese woman has become the first person ever to receive an iPS corneal transplant.
• In an incredible feat of medical advancement, a team from Osaka University in Japan conducted the first-
ever corneal transplant in July, using reprogrammed stem cells.
• The woman, who is in her forties, was suffering from corneal epithelial stem cell deficiency, which can lead
to blindness.
Malaria linked to 30% risk of heart failure
• Malaria infection is linked to 30 per cent higher risk of heart failure, a new research has warned.
• The mosquito-borne infection affects more than 219 million people worldwide each year, according to the
2018 statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Tata Sons).
Government constitutes a task force
• The central government has set up a task force to draw up plans for building infrastructure worth Rs 100
lakh crore over the next five years.
• The task force under the chairmanship of Secretary (DEA) has been constituted to draw up a 'national
infrastructure pipeline' from 2019-20 to 2024-25.
• The national infrastructure pipeline project would include greenfield and brownfield projects.
Panel to look into insurance guidelines
• Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has decided to review its 3-year-old
guidelines on trade credit insurance.
• Trade credit insurance policy provides coverage to a supplier of goods and services against delay in
payment or non-payments of trade credit.
• The panel will be headed by New India Assurance CMD Atul Sahai.
Steering Committee submitted report
• A government constituted Committee has recommended for putting in place a comprehensive legal

SEBI penalised Aurobindo Pharma
• SEBI has imposed a penalty of over Rs 22 crore on Aurobindo Pharma and its promoters.
• They have been penalised for violating insider trading norms.
• The regulator had conducted an investigation into the trading in the scrip of Aurobindo Pharma Ltd.
• SEBI found that these entities purchased shares while in possession of the UPSI pertaining to Aurobindo,
and made unlawful gains.
RBI tightens norms for failed transactions
• The Reserve Bank of India prescribed a turnaround time (TAT) for banks to settle failed transactions for
customers and also notified compensations payable for various types of customer complaints.
• The timeline for auto-reversal has been set at between one day after the transaction to five days.
• Most financial compensations have been set at ₹100 per day if the reversal does not happen.
Govt waives lock in period for IDF bonds
• The government of India has waived the three-year lock-in period on investments made by non-residents in
Infrastructure Debt Funds (IDFs), to promote funding in the infrastructure sector.
• To attract off-shore investments into IDFs, any amount of interest received by non-resident or foreign
company from investment in such IDFs is charged at a reduced tax rate of 5%.
UAE tops in investments by non-residents
• According to the Reserve Bank of India’s, ‘Survey of Foreign Liabilities and Assets of Mutual Fund
Companies, 2018-19’, Non-residents’ (NRIs’) investments in Indian mutual funds are up by nearly a tenth
and is now approaching Rs 1 trillion.
• The UAE, the UK and the US were the largest investors together accounting for one-third of the MF units.
OECD slashes India's economic growth
• The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has projected the Indian economy to
grow by 6.3%.

8.65% interest rate for EPFO members
• Government has approved 8.65% interest rate on deposits in Employees Provident Fund for 2018-19.
• Ministry of Labour and Employment has notified 8.65% rate of interest on EPF deposits for its over six crore
subscribers.
• The EPFO has been settling EPF withdrawal claims at 8.55% interest rate, approved for 2017-18.
• Now, the EPFO will settle accounts on higher rate of 8.65% for 2018-19.
Scope of Bharat Bill Payment System expanded
• The RBI has expanded the scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) by adding other categories of
recurring payments through the portal.
• BBPS is an interoperable platform that enables a customer to pay bills such as telephone, water, gas, at a
single location.
• With the expansion of the scope of the payment facility, other recurring payments such as school fees can
also be paid via BBPS.
RBI increases banks' loan exposure limit
• The RBI increased loan exposure limit of banks to a single Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC)
- excluding gold loan companies - from 15% to 20% of its capital base.
• This move will help increase credit supply to the crisis-ridden shadow banking sector.
• NBFC are establishments that provide financial services and banking facilities without meeting the legal
definition of a Bank.
FDI grows to $16.33 bn in Q1 FY20
• According to government data, Foreign direct investment into India grew by 28% to $16.33 billion during
the first quarter of the current fiscal.
• The inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) during April-June of 2018-19 stood at 12.75 billion.
• Singapore emerged as the largest source of FDI in India during the first quarter of the fiscal with $5.33
billion investments.
MCX and Zhengzhou Exchange sign MoU
• The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE), one of the
leading commodity exchanges in China, have signed an MoU.
• The MoU will facilitate cooperation between the two exchanges in areas such as knowledge sharing,
education & training, organizing events.
• MCX offers commodity futures contracts in bullion, base metal, energy and agricultural commodities.
Standard Chartered launched DigiSmart card
• Standard Chartered Bank has launched a DigiSmart credit card that is focussed on millennials.
• The card is available for a monthly fee of ₹49, which will, however, be waived off if the customer spends

UPI Transactions jumped 6 Times In 2018-19

• In value terms, UPI transactions soared nearly eight times during the year, according to RBI data.

Equitas SFB misses RBI mandate of listing
• Equitas Small Finance Bank (SFB), which completed three years of operations on 4 September 2019, has
missed its listing timeline.
• Equitas Financial Holdings, which owns 100% stake in Equitas SFB — is a listed entity, the RBI rules mandate
that the SFB be listed separately within three years of launch of business.
• Equitas SFB, the first such bank, began operations on September 5, 2016.
India to go ahead with $3.1 billion US deal
• India is set to go ahead with a $3.1-billion deal with the US to acquire maritime aircraft for the Navy that
will add to its surveillance capabilities in the Indian Ocean Region.
• The procurement of 10 Boeing P8I maritime patrol aircraft is likely to be cleared at a key acquisition
meeting.
• The deal will include a mandatory clause for at least 30% offsets to domestic companies.
Crisil lowers India's GDP growth forecast
• Crisil cut India's GDP growth forecast to 6.3 per cent for fiscal year 2020 from its earlier forecast of 6.9 per
cent.
• This comes after the GDP growth was at its slowest in almost 6 years and grew only at 5 per cent in the first
quarter.
• Earlier, Moody's too had revised India's GDP growth forecast for the current year to 6.2 per cent.
Banks to link lending rate to ext benchmark
• The RBI made it mandatory for banks to link their retail and MSME loans to external interest rate
benchmarks.
• Home, car and personal loans for travel are expected to fall benefiting borrowers.
• This new norm will be effective October 1 where banks have to migrate from the Marginal Cost of Lending
Rate regime to external benchmarking and will have the freedom to choose which one to follow.
B K Modi launched OCI investment platform
• Businessman B K Modi announced the setting of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Investment Forum with a
proposed fund size of $100 billion.
• As its first project, the OCI investor forum will undertake investment in the region of Kashmir to develop
100 Global Wellness Hotels in Kashmir.
• Other key sectors of investment will include healthcare, real estate and education.
PAN for people filing ITR with Aadhaar
• The Income Tax Department will automatically issue PAN to a taxpayer using Aadhaar number for filing
returns as part of a new arrangement to link the two databases.
• A person who furnishes Aadhaar, as they do not have PAN, shall be deemed to have applied for allotment
of PAN and they will not be required to apply or submit any more documents.
• The rule has come into effect from Sept. 1, 2019.

• Insurance regulator, IRDAI has set up a single point contact for its Regulatory Sandbox (RS) initiative.

• Regulatory sandbox (RS) usually refers to live testing of new products or services in a controlled/test
regulatory environment.
RBI releases annual report
• According to the RBI's Annual Report, the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) balance sheet expanded by
13.42% to Rs 41.03 lakh crore while its income soared by 146.59% to Rs 1.93 lakh crore in 2018-19.
• Interest income grew 44.62% to Rs 1.06 lakh crore.
• The RBI's holding of government securities grew by 57.19%.
Samsung India ties up with Mastercard
• Mastercard, RBL Bank and Samsung India have announced the launch of Samsung Pay for RBL Bank’s credit
cardholders.
• The partnership will allow RBL Bank Mastercard credit cardholders to make contactless mobile payments
using their Samsung Pay-enabled phones.
• These payments can be made via any PoS (Point of Sale) machine where a card can be dipped, swiped or
tapped, both in India and abroad.
NPCI caps BHIM UPI discount rate
• To drive digital payments in both small and large merchants’ transactions, the National Payments
Corporation of India (NPCI) said the BHIM UPI merchant discount rate (MDR) for large ticket transactions
has been capped at a maximum of Rs 100 and made zero at offline merchants for transactions up to Rs 100.
• Currently, MDR is capped at 0.25% for transactions up to Rs 2000.
GDP growth at 5% in Q1 FY20
• India’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth slumped to a 25-quarter low of 5% in Q1 FY20.
• The slowdown in investment and consumer demand derailed manufacturing, which grew just 0.6%.
• A meagre 2% rise in farm sector added to the demand slowdown.
• Private Consumption collapsed to an 18-quarter low of 3.1% from 10.6% in the March quarter.
TDS on cash withdrawal above ₹1 crore
• The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that the 2% tax deduction at source (TDS) on cash
withdrawals of over Rs 1 crore will come into effect from 1 September 2019.
• The government had made the provision of levying 2 per cent TDS on cash withdrawals exceeding Rs 1
crore in the Union Budget with an aim to discourage cash transactions and move towards a less-cash
economy.

• The plan for this exercise was discussed during the Final Planning Conference for India-US Tri-Services

• For the first time, the US and India will be holding the tri-service military exercise.

• Ponung Doming, created history after she became the first woman officer from Arunachal Pradesh to hold

Indian army conducted exercise ‘Chang Thang’
• The Indian Army conducted a massive rare exercise ‘Chang Thang’ in Eastern Ladakh bordering China.
• The exercise involved the use of infantry, mechanised forces, T-72 tanks, with force multipliers such as

• The Indian Air Force was also roped in the exercise.

• Indian Air Force has successfully flight-tested air-to-air missile Astra off the coast of Odisha.

Anjali Singh: India's 1st military diplomat
• Wing Commander Anjali Singh has become India's first female military diplomat to be posted in any of the

• Singh, who is trained on MiG-29 fighter aircraft, joined her new assignment on September 10, 2019.
• An air attaché is an Air Force officer who is part of a diplomatic mission.
Wargaming software handed over to Indian Navy
• Institute for Systems Studies and Analysis (ISSA) Delhi, has designed and developed a new generation
Wargaming Software in collaboration with Maritime Warfare Centre, Visakhapatnam to meet the
contemporary operational and tactical level wargaming requirement for the Indian Navy.
• It was handed over to Vice Chief of the Naval Staff Vice Admiral G Ashok Kumar at ISSA, on 16 September

IN-RSN-RTN Trilateral Exercise commenced
• A maiden trilateral exercise, involving Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN), Royal Thailand Navy (RTN) and
Indian Navy (IN) commenced at Port Blair on 16 September 2019.
• The five-day-long exercise is aimed at bolstering the maritime inter-relationships amongst Singapore,
Thailand and India.
• This would also strengthen the mutual confidence amongst three navies in terms of interoperability.
Exercise TSENTR 2019 started off
• The opening ceremony of Exercise TSENTR 2019 was conducted at the DONGUZ Ranges near Orenburg in
Russia's Central Military District on 15 September 2019.
• It aims at countering the threat of international terrorism
• As many as 2,500 personnel and 500 vehicles from all participating nations took part in the ceremony.

IAF receives first batch of Spice 2000 bombs
• The Indian Air Force (IAF) has started receiving the supply of Spice 2000 bombs from an Isreal firm, the first
batch of which was delivered recently.
• The first batch of Spice 2000 bombs, with Mark 84 warheads and bombs, arrived in Gwalior, Madhya
Pradesh, which is the main base of the Mirage 2000 fighter planes.
• The new version of these bombs has the capacity to completely destroy buildings.
INS Tarkash at Walvis Bay, Namibia
• Indian Naval Ship Tarkash made a port call at Walvis Bay, Namibia, on 15 September 2019 for a three days

• The port call is a demonstration of India’s warm ties with Namibia and its commitment to enhance

Indian Army will conduct 'HimVijay'
• The Indian Army is scheduled to conduct a major Exercise ‘HimVijay’ with the Chinese Army in October

• The Panagarh based 17 Mountain Strike Corps will conduct Exercise HimVijay spread over a month and a
half with three newly created Integrated Battle Groups (IBG) from October.
• The concept of the IBG was war-gamed and tested by the 9 Corps early this year.
DRDO handed over ‘Netra’ aircraft to IAF
• The DRDO has handed over the second airborne warning plane, Netra, to the Indian Air Force.
• The Netra, an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEWC) aircraft, is useful for surveillance, tracking,
identification and classification of airborne and sea surface targets and is useful in detecting incoming
ballistic missile threats.
• It had played a stellar role during the Balakot airstrikes.
DAC approved procurement of Rs 2,000 crores
• The Defence Acquisition Council accorded approval for Capital Procurement for the Services amounting to
approximately Rs 2,000 crores.
• The decision was taken during the Defence Acquisition Council meeting held under the chairmanship of

Rajnath Singh to visit France in October
• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to receive the first of 36 Rafale fighter jets in Paris on October 8, 2019
-- the foundation day of the Indian Air Force.
• He will travel to Paris on October 7 on a three-day visit.
• India had signed an inter-governmental agreement with France in September 2016 for procurement of 36
Rafale fighter jets at a cost of around Rs 58,000 crore.

• DRDO successfully flight tested indigenously developed low weight, fire and forget Man Portable Antitank
Guided Missile (MPATGM) in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh on 11 Sept 2019.

• All the mission objectives were met.
• This is the third series of successful testing of MPATGM.
India to spend $130 bn to modernise military
• India has finalised to spend $130 billion in the next 5-7 years to modernise the armed forces and bolster

• This will be the first time that forces from India and Pakistan will participate in a multilateral exercise

Gaganyaan, the country's first human mission to space.

Government launched new framework
• The Union Jal Shakti Ministry’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), launched a 10-year
national rural sanitation strategy to sustain India’s 100 per cent Open Defecation Free (ODF) status claimed
by the Centre.
• The framework, to be in place from 2019 to 2029, will ensure that people sustain their usage of toilets. It
will also focus on solid and liquid waste management.
West Bengal Government To Set Up Museum
• West Bengal government plans to set up a museum at the north Kolkata house of 19th century social
reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar.
• The museum will come up at Vidyasagar's residence at Badur Bagan area where pictures and models,

• The commitment from government as central assistance will be 1,805 crore rupees.

• The Delhi HC launched an official mobile application for providing digital access of its services to lawyers
and litigants.
• The application provides details of case status, display board, cause list and access to other important links
of the high court website.
• The advocates registered with the High Court's e-filing software will also be able to apply for e-inspection
and online gate pass.
112 emergency helpline no. launched in Delhi
• A single emergency number -112- was launched for police, fire and ambulance emergency services.

Pink tickets for women for free travel in DTC
• Pink tickets will be issued to women passengers under the Delhi government’s scheme for free travel in DTC
and cluster buses which was approved by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) board.
• The scheme has been approved till March 2020 and it will be rolled out on Bhai Dooj on 29 Oct 2019.
• Women travelling in DTC and cluster buses will be given pink tickets having a face value of ₹10 each.
Swachhata hi Seva Abhiyan to be observed in MP
• Madhya Pradesh government launched a month-long Swachhata hi Seva Abhiyan from September 25 till
October 25, 2019, against the single-use plastic.
• During the campaign, various awareness programmes will be conducted in urban bodies.
• The campaign will encourage alternatives by eliminating single-use plastic and non-standard polythene in
markets, malls and shops etc.
Amit Shah launched a new portal
• Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Private Security Agency Licensing Portal at a function in New Delhi
on 25 September 2019.
• The portal will become functional in all official languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu and Tamil within three
months.
• The number of licensed agencies in the states will also be available on the portal so that people do not fall
prey to the fraudulent agencies.
India's 2nd largest railway overbridge in WB
• The Indian Railways has completed the construction of the giant four-lane cable-stayed railway overbridge
(RoB) at Burdwan Junction in West Bengal.
• The RoB, considered to be the second largest in the country will be inaugurated by Railway Minister Piyush
Goyal.
• The railway overbridge was completed in 197 days without affecting traffic for even a single day.
‘India Tourism Mart 2019’ inaugurated

• In Uttar Pradesh, country's first corporate-run train from Lucknow to Delhi, Tejas Express is all ready to hit
the tracks on 4th of October 2019.
• Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will flag off the train from Lucknow which will be run by IRCTC.
• The train will run 6 days in a week with advance coaches and it will be the fastest train between Lucknow
and Delhi.
Muzaffarpur Administration launched drives
• In Bihar, Muzaffarpur District Administration launched several drives for nutritional, sanitation needs and
medical facilities for Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) affected blocks.
• 5 blocks of the district Mushari, Bochahan, Motipur, Kanti and Minapur are said to be epicentre of AES,
which claimed lives of 160 children.
• Affected families are being given facilities at their doorsteps.
Government launched ‘UMMID’ initiative
• Science and Technology and Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan launched ‘UMMID’ initiative to tackle
inherited genetic diseases of newborn babies.
• The new initiative aims at creating awareness about genetic disorders amongst clinicians and establish

• The state of Bihar got its first all-women employee post office on 21 September 2019.
• Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated the post office on the campus of Bihar Public Services
Commission (BPSC).
• Sub-post office of BPSC has been upgraded to the status of Bihar's first all-women employee post office.
• Postal accounts will also be linked with Aadhaar for greater transparency.
Arvind Kejriwal launched ‘champions campaign’
• CM Arvind Kejriwal launched Champions Campaign to fight dengue and urged citizens to become
‘champions’ and encourage 10 friends to check their homes for mosquito larvae.
• Earlier, he had also launched 10Hafte 10Baje 10Minute campaign.
• He had urged the Delhi residents to give 10 minutes every Sunday to check the surroundings to prevent the

CBDT sets up NeAC in New Delhi
• Central Board of Direct Tax(CBDT) has newly set up National e-Assessment Centre (NeAC) in Delhi.

• In Tamil Nadu, the Southern Railways announced a special schedule for the Heritage Hill Railway from
Udhagamandalam to Mettupalayam.
• Special trips of the mountain train will be run on all weekends from October 5 to November 29, 2019.
• This coincides with the second flower season in the world-renowned hill station.

• Union Minister for Home Affairs, Amit Shah launched three citizen-centric services of the Chandigarh Police
on 20 September 2019.
• The services include the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS - Dial 112), ‘E-Beat Book’ System and
the ‘E-Saathi App’.
• ERSS is one of the key projects of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs under the Nirbhaya Fund.
Sardar Patel National Unity Award constituted
• The Union Home Ministry said that Sardar Patel National Unity Award, a new honour for outstanding efforts
to further national integration on the pattern of Padma awards will be bestowed annually to an individual
or any institution or organisation.

• The Government of Maharashtra has decided to set up ‘Swachh Bharat World University’ in Wardha to

• The State has formed a committee headed by the Minister of Education Vinod Tawde to look into the
requirements of the University.
Punjab, Haryana to ban e-cigarettes
• In Punjab and Haryana the people and the governments have welcomed the ordinance brought by Central
government to ban the e-cigarettes.
• According to the ordinance, first time violators will face a jail term of up to one year and a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
• The storage of e-cigarettes shall now be punishable with imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up
to Rs 50,000 or both.
UP: Screening of malnourished children easy
• In UP, Mobile App of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram has made screening and referral of malnourished
children easy.
• During the first fortnight of Poshan Maah in the state, a total of 8,405 children have been identified and
referred using this App.
• Majority of these identified children were suffering from Vitamin A deficiency while some were having low
hemoglobin and Vitamin D.

• Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting launched Wipro Consumer Care–Ventures, a startup venture fund to
invest in startups in the consumer brands space.
• The venture will focus on companies with a differentiated approach where both parties can learn by
leveraging their strengths and add value to each other.
• Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting is a $1 billion plus arm of Wipro Enterprises.
Public Sector Banks to organise loan melas
• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that Public Sector Banks will organise ‘loan melas’ in 400
districts.
• The meetings will be organised to provide loans to NBFCs and retail borrowers, including homebuyers and

• Eligible drivers and employees will obtain an Ayushman Bharat card at a minimal cost of Rs 30.
Telecom body approved projects
• The Digital Communication Commission has approved multiple projects worth over Rs 8,500 crore.
• The projects aim to set up mobile towers and laying of optical fibre, to provide improved connectivity.
• A special scheme to cover upto 12,000 uncovered villages in aspirational districts was also approved.
• The approved infra projects include laying of BharatNet fibre in Tamil Nadu and Telangana,
NTPC to build India’s biggest solar park
• National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) plans to set up a 5-gigawatt solar park in the western
state of Gujarat, which would be the biggest in the country.
• The plan is part of NTPC’s aim to reduce the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix to 70% from around 96%
by 2032.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi is targeting 175 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2022.

Scope of Bharat Bill Payment System expanded
• The RBI has expanded the scope of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) by adding other categories of
recurring payments through the portal.
• BBPS is an interoperable platform that enables a customer to pay bills such as telephone, water, gas, at a
single location.
• With the expansion of the scope of the payment facility, other recurring payments such as school fees can
also be paid via BBPS.
Steel Import Monitoring System launched
• Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce &
Industry, Hardeep Singh Puri launched Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS) in New Delhi

• PM Narendra Modi is on a 2-day visit to Gujarat.

overflowing of the Dam.
• The Narmada water at Sardar Sarovar Dam was completely filled up for the first time after raising its height
to 138.68 metres.

Udhampur: First women marathon organised
• In an innovative initiative, a women-only marathon with an aim of spreading social message regarding drug

• The marathon witnessed the participation of attendees from all different age groups.
• This is the first time that a marathon specifically for girls and women has been organised.

Government to offer 1000 PhD fellowships
• The government is set to launch a major programme offering 1,000 PhD fellowships to ASEAN students at
IITs in India.
• The admission portal for the programme is being executed by IIT Delhi for offering PhD fellowships to
ASEAN students in all IITs in India.
• The launch ceremony of the ASEAN PhD fellowships at IITs was held on 16 September 2019.

radius, depending on the geography of the area.
• CRSs act as essential communication channels for enhancing the last mile of the outreach of government.
Government inducts first batch of ISDS
• The government has inducted the first batch of the Indian Skill Development Services (ISDS), the newest
central government Group A services on 9 September 2019.

• This service has been specially created for the training directorate of the ministry of skill development and

NGT constituted committee
• The National Green Tribunal has constituted a committee to formulate steps to cease illegal groundwater
extraction.
• The committee aims to ensure that groundwater is not illegally extracted and to monitor manning and

• The first phase of iWTC, being executed under the gender park’s Vision 2020, is scheduled to be completed

• Niti Aayog has selected McKinsey & Company to set up India’s first Digital Capability Centre (DCC).
• McKinsey supports five such digital capability centres across the globe – Aachen, Chicago, Singapore,

Gujarat government reduced traffic fine
• The Gujarat government reduced fine amounts stipulated in the new Motor Vehicles Act passed recently.
• The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019 was passed by Parliament in July and its steep fines were to
come into effect from 1 September 2019.
• The penalty for driving without a licence has been brought down from ₹5,000 to ₹2000 for two-wheelers
and ₹3000 for four-wheelers.
UP govt announced Agriculture Export policy
• Uttar Pradesh Government has announced it's maiden Agriculture Export policy, 2019.
• The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting on 10 September 2019 chaired by Chief Minister Yogi
Adityanath.
• Cabinet also cleared a proposal to compensate victims of lynching as directed by the Supreme Court.
• The policy will target to augment farmers’s income and promote export of farm commodities.
Campaign against plastic began in Bihar
• In Bihar, the campaign against single used plastic began on 11 September 2019.
• Mass Awareness Campaign was launched by holding Swatchha Hi Seva campaign from 11 September till 1
October 2019 from Urban areas to villages.
• Under this campaign, single used plastic will be collected at ward level and it will be sent to collection
centres of local bodies for recycling.
MP: 313 Anganwadi centres developed
• In Madhya Pradesh, 313 Anganwadi centres have been developed as Child Education Centre under
Rashtriya Poshan Maah - National Nutritional Campaign.
• These centres are now providing primary education along with distribution of nutritious food.
• 27 thousand smartphones have also been provided in the state for monitoring of nutritional food
distribution in Anganwadi centres.
J&K: 85,000 LPG refills distributed
• In Jammu and Kashmir, 85,000 LPG refills have been distributed through home-deliveries to consumers in
Srinagar in last three weeks.
• The number includes 60,000 refills distributed in the last two weeks of August and 25,000 distributed in the
first week of September 2019.
• Moreover, since September 1 around 50 thousand quintals of rice has been distributed among consumers
in Srinagar.
Centre set up 3-member panel
• Centre has set up a three-member panel to oversee the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union
Territories.
• The committee will look into the distribution of assets and liabilities of Jammu and Kashmir between two
successor Union territories, which will come into existence on 31 October 2019.
• The committee will be headed by Former Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra.

1st SCO conference on military medicine
• India will host the first conference on military medicine for member nations of the Shanghai Co-operation
Organisation (SCO) in New Delhi from 12-13 September 2019.
• It will be the first military co-operation event to be organised in India under the SCO after it joined the

• The objective of the conference is to share best practices in the field of military medicine.
India to raise target to restore degraded land
• India will raise target of restoring land with degraded status from 21 million hectares to 26 million by 2030.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this while addressing the 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) of the UN
Convention to Combat Desertification(UNCCD) in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh on 9 September 2019.
• Desertification affects over two-thirds of the countries of the world.
DPIIT to launch a campaign
• Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of Commerce Ministry will launch plastic

• Under the campaign, DPIIT will ensure recycling of plastic waste collected on 2nd October 2019 in cement

Aadhaar-enabled payment services rolled out
• The government announced the rollout of Aadhaar Enabled Payment System Services by India Post
Payments Bank.
• With this launch, IPPB has become the single largest platform in the country for providing interoperable
banking services to customers of any bank by leveraging the last mile unprecedented reach of the Postal

institutions for 11 NPA accounts.
• The bank is set to merge two peer banks - Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India with itself.
UTs of J&K, Ladakh to have common High Court
• The UTs of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will have a common High Court.
• The Legislative Assembly will be formed in J&K as UT but there will be no Legislative Assembly in the UT of
Ladakh as it will be directly controlled by the Union Government.
• 108 Central Laws will be applicable on the two UTs while 164 State laws will be repealed and 166 State laws
will continue to be applicable.
Eighth edition of Ladakh Marathon held in Leh
• The eighth edition of Ladakh Marathon was held on 8 September 2019, in Leh.
• It is the highest marathon in the world as it is held at over 11, 000 feet above the mean sea level.
• The Marathon was held in the categories of 42KM Full Full Marathon, 21KM half marathon and 7 km long
Run for Fun.

PM Modi to address segment of COP-14
• PM Narendra Modi addressed the High-Level Segment of the 14th Conference of Parties of the UN

• The Conference is being held at a time when India has assumed the COP Presidency from China for two
years.
• Around 30 decisions will be taken at the Conference that aim to strengthen land-use policies worldwide.
3.5 lakh cr to be spent on Jal Jeevan Mission
• PM Narendra Modi has announced that the central government will spend 3.5 lakh crore rupees in the next
five years on 'Jal Jeevan Mission'.
• He also announced that under the MUDRA scheme, one woman in every SHG will get a loan of 1 lakh
rupees and this will help them start new ventures and grow their business.
• The Jal Jeevan Mission was launched in August 2019.
Ashok Leyland meets BS-VI emission norms
• Ashok Leyland Ltd has become the first Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to meet the BS-VI
emission norms.
• It met the BS-VI emission norms across the full range of heavy-duty trucks – Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW)
16.2 tonnes and above.
• The company received the certificates, confirming compliance to BS-VI emission standard, from Automotive

World Bank to fund tourism projects in UP

Food ministry to ban single-use plastic
• Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry has decided to ban single-use plastic in its various departments as well
as the public sector units under its administration from September 15.
• The decision was taken at a meeting held by Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
• Cloth or jute bags, locally tailored and produced, can be a viable alternative.

• Reliance will charge subscribers $10 to $118 a month for speeds ranging from 100Mbps-1Gbps.
• The free services are coupled with low-cost internet.

• The tallest ATC tower in the country was inaugurated at the IGI Airport.
• The Delhi Air Traffic Service Complex, which is the tallest Air Traffic Control tower in India with a height of

UP to have Atal B. Vajpayee Medical University
• By the end of this year, Uttar Pradesh will start work on a medical university in memory of former prime

• State Cabinet on 3 September 2019 approved the transfer of 50 acres of land for the proposed Atal Bihari
Vajpayee Medical University to be set up in Lucknow.
• It will serve as an umbrella institution for all medical and dental colleges in the state.
Mahakaleshwar temple to be developed
• In Madhya Pradesh, Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain will be developed on the lines of the ongoing
development works at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.
• Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the twelve Jyotirlingams, which
are the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva.
• The development and expansion plans include Mahakal theme park, Mahakal corridor, etc.
IDBI Bank to be recapitalised
• The Cabinet cleared recapitalization of IDBI Bank with a one-time infusion of funds by both the government
and the LIC.
• It has approved 9,000 crore capital infusion into IDBI Bank, including 4,557 crores by the government as
one-time re-capitalisation.
• This will help both IDBI and LIC, and it shows the government's commitment to take banking to a sound
level.

• India has announced a contribution of 22 million US Dollars to the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria
(GFTAM) for the 6th replenishment cycle (2020-22).

Country's longest electrified rail tunnel
• In Andhra Pradesh, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu dedicated the country's longest electrified rail tunnel
between Cherlopalli and Rapuru and the electrified railway line between Venkatachalam and Obulavaripalli
on 1 September 2019.
• The length of the rail tunnel is 6.6 kilometre.
• He also flagged-off a new inter-city super fast express train between Guduru and Vijayawada.

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah dedicated a series of developmental projects at Silvassa the headquarters

App launched to help Paralympians
• A mobile app was launched to help para-athletes to look up accessible places in Tokyo during their visit to
the city for the 2020 Paralympics Games.
• The application -- IndTokyo -- which was launched by Arhan Bagati, Awareness and Impact Ambassador of
Paralympic Committee of India, at the 'Countdown to Tokyo 2020'.
• The 2020 Tokyo Paralympics was inaugurated 25 August 2019.
