0 Introduction

Over the years people have started their own candle business in many

different ways and for many different reasons. For some, the candle business may

have grown out of a hobby they enjoyed, for others it may be because of the loss

of job or perhaps it stemmed from the desire to start a company and finding through

research what a great business the candle industry can be.

Candle is wax with an ignitable wick. It provides light and is used for heat or

as a technique of keeping time. Presently, candles are utilized as a home

decoration item and used to relieve stress and create a warm ambiance.

Increasing consumer preferences for candles for aromatherapy to de-stress and

relax and as home decor is expected to drive the candle market during the forecast

period. Furthermore, availability of various types of candles on multiple distribution

channels is projected to boost their demand.

Many people nowadays stress over nearly everything. Be it at home, at

school or at work, stress never seems to go out of our lives. Whenever stress,

anxiety and procrastination all try to attack us, we tend to be radical, irritable and

easily tensed; thus we cannot think properly and efficiently. Our candle is proven

to help ease stress, gives relaxation especially to the brain and gives you a better

sleep.

According to the National Candle Association, 7 out of 10 households burn

candles. Talk about a great opportunity! This means 70% of prospective people

2.2.2 Place

2.2.2.1 Distribution Channel

The Vulcandilā Company will advertise through print media like flyers

and posters. One of the most versatile and affordable type of marketing

materials are flyers. Flyers provide a great platform to promote special

products and reach audience in many ways. The fact that our customers

will physically hold the flyer means a better way for them to get our

message. The company will give flyers to the passersby since the product

is new to the market. This will include the description of the product and its

promotions. While posters will be posted in places near the physical store

to encourage and inform customers that there is an existing candle shop in

the place.

VULCANDILĀ 4
2.2.2.2 Strategic Placing In the Market

Through the use of technology, all of the people nowadays are linked

with social media. So one way to reach the customers is through our social

media pages: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. In this page, people will be

updated with the promotions and new variety of scents. Also a way to reach

the customers is the endorsement of media influencers like bloggers and

vloggers by sending sample products for them to review. Since most people

enjoys watching Youtube, it will be easy for our product to be known.

2.2.3 Promotion

2.2.3.1 Sales Promotion

Promotion is a way for people to notice a product. One of our

company’s promotion is selling our product by set. In this way the customers

can avail the product cheaper than our individual sales. People always like

to get more for less. The buy one, get one offer occasionally allows for this.

Additionally, we can use it to unload overstocked inventory in a way that

helps still have a profit margin. Especially enticing is buy one, get one free,

as people have a hard time saying no to that word. Coupons and discounts

are also great because they get people buying and at the same time realize

some profit. They’re especially good for things that are overstocked. And

when the product doesn’t get the desired sales, the old stocks will be sold

in a sale. In this way, the company gets profit while having the chance to

have new stocks.

VULCANDILĀ 5
2.2.3.1.1 Selling Method

Through technology, it is one way for transactions to be easier. So the

company, chose to sell online through a social media page like Facebook, Twitter

and Instagram since shopping online is a trend. Some people don’t need to deal

with transportation expenses and traffic. In this way the company is open to the

world. Besides selling in social media, the company also has a physical store for

there are still people who need to touch, see and feel the product before buying it.

It is also true that to serve customers in person promotes loyalty.

2.2.3.1.2 Public Relation

Word of mouth marketing is the best public relation strategy we could have.

The company will use those happy customers as the spokespeople. It will carry a

lot more weight to hear in their words how the company solved their problem than

to have us tout it ourselves. Once we have a good supply of customer testimonials

and feedbacks, the company will have ways to feature them. It could be an

interactive videos that use the customer’s own voice and mannerisms. We could

also feature them in blog posts. Also, by including information of customer

testimonials in marketing materials or post images of them in our social media

pages. Our customer’s voice is a valuable asset to our public relation strategy that

can attract more happy customers.

2.3 Market Environment

2.3.1 Target Market

2.3.1.1 Target Market Profile

because the product can be used by anyone in any circumstances.

2.3.1.2 Products Benefits to Its Costumers

Vulcandilā has 3 different scents that can make a room smell

good and make you feel relaxed. One of Vulcandilā's ingredient,

citronella oil, is actually used as a major ingredient in insect

repellants that comes from its natural power to keep mosquitos and

other insects away without the use of harsh chemicals. Citronella oil

is also believed to help treat and prevent colds, fever and headaches.

Peppermint essential oil is commonly used by aroma therapists for

its uplifting and invigorating properties. Peppermint essential oil has

naturally-occurring antispasmodic properties. It is effective for

treating a wide range of digestive complaints, such as easing irritable

bowel syndrome, cramping or stomach spasms and pain. Sunflower

oil has a large number of benefits that help in keeping the body

VULCANDILĀ 12
healthy and strong. Sunflower oil also contains proteins, which are

vital for building and repairing tissues and the production of

hormones and enzymes. The smell of coffee alone is known for its

many purposes. There are few studies that deal with the beneficial

effects of coffee aroma. This study is the first effort to elucidate the

effects of coffee bean aroma on the sleep deprivation-induced stress

in the brain. It is also proven that the aroma of coffee can help with

the boost of brain, this is good for students who wants to have focus

2.4.3 Key Barrier to Entry

Product differentiation can be accomplished through strong brand

recognition, great customer service or a network effect. If customers perceive

existing products as high quality, then our new business will need to spend extra

money to educate customers about the unique qualities and benefits of our

product. Competitors are already known in the market, this means that the

company should really invest in advertisements so that Vulcandilā will be known

by the customers.

2.4.4 Uniqueness of the Product Compared To Its Competitors

Our company is very confident that the quality and originality of our products

and our strong customer service represent our main competitive advantage. We

believe that giving the customers the opportunity to be involved in the process of

VULCANDILĀ 17
making what they want is the best way to achieve a satisfactory end product and

happier customers. We will create brand awareness through different advertising

channels. We will build a reputation of good quality products, excellent customer

service and reliability, which ultimately will lead us to success.

2.5 Industry

Candle manufacturing has since become a highly profitable industry,

despite the fact that candles aren’t a necessity. Almost one-third of all candle sales

occur during the holiday season and fragrance is the number one factor affecting

the candle sales. Vulcandilā of Artikulo Uno Inc. always link to the candle fragrance

itself. In summation, candle making is an industry with a rich and colorful past that

has endured despite centuries of evolution and change. They may no longer serve

the world as the only source of illumination, but the allure of candles and their

scents is still deeply rooted within the hearts of more creative souls among us. The

candles burn sweetly and almost as brightly as the imagined artistry that created

them.

Manufacturing Process of Vulcandilā candles

To start the manufacturing process, all necessary raw

materials must be already organized in the workstation area to

conserve time and prevent the misplacement of important

ingredients. The input (raw materials) will now undergo various

processes to make the product.

First, the candle wax will be melted. The scented oils, which

include citronella and another scent, will then be incorporated into

the melted wax. Once the scents are distributed evenly, the mixture

VULCANDILĀ 19
will be cooled for a few seconds and will be poured into containers (shot glasses).

Each shot glass must have a candle wick already placed on its center, along with

a metal wick holder. After pouring the candle mixture, the candles will then be left

to cool and dry on their own naturally.

After the candles have dried completely, each will undergo quality control

and be checked meticulously for possible damages or defects. After checking,

each candle will now be brought to the packaging area, and labels (brand name

along with the scent name) will be added on the glasses’ surface. For finishing, the

now-labeled products will then be placed in boxes, and are ready to be sold in the

market.

3.1.2 Place of Production

Vulcandilā will be placing its production place, along with a small physical

store, on a commercial space for lease on Lot 35, Block 167, Commonwealth

Avenue, Greater Lagro, Novaliches, Quezon City. The owners chose this place as

the business’ place of production since the area is open and accessible to a large

mass of people and may strengthen the chances of the product to gain more

attention from the public. The business took advantage of the Quezon City’s

accessibility, since it is considered as one of the places in the Philippines where

most new, small businesses thrive. The chosen place is also convenient for the

owners to regularly visit since it is only located within Quezon City.

VULCANDILĀ 20
3.1.3 Intended Space

Vulcandilā’s Place of Production and Physical Store

Since the business is just new to the market, the owners decided to utilize

a 30-m2 commercial space for lease on Lot 35, Block 167, Commonwealth Ave.,

Greater Lagro, Novaliches, Quezon City. And since candles do not need a lot of

space to sell on, this commercial space is good enough to start off as a production

place and a candle boutique.

VULCANDILĀ 21
The intended 30-m2 commercial space is for lease for only ₱1,000.00, and

is considered a rent expense good enough for a starting business. The space also

includes a bathroom, which employees may use.

3.1.4 Materials and Equipment

Vulcandilā uses the following the materials and equipment in the scented

candle manufacturing process:

Wax Pellets

Vulcandilā uses affordable but quality wax pellets in making

the scented candles. The wax also comes in various colors.

Citronella Oil

Citronella oil is an essential oil known for having a lingering

fragrance that helps deodorize rooms and help keep them

insect-free.

Scented Oils

Vulcandilā uses a wide array of scented oils to combine with

the citronella oil, and create new, unique scents.

Candle Wicks (6 cm)

The candle wicks are made of 6-cm cotton threads with a

metal wick holder, perfect for placing on small candle

containers, such as shot glasses.

VULCANDILĀ 22
Shot Glass (1.2 oz.)

The shot glasses used by Vulcandilā as their candle

containers are flared and heavy-based, in order to add an

aesthetic effect on the product.

Stove

Stoves, which can be either gas or electric, are used in

melting the candle wax and for making the scented candle

mixture.

Double Boiler

Double boilers are where the containers of wax pellets are

placed until they are melted. Water is placed underneath so

the wax is not burning directly under fire.

Llanera Pans

Wax pellets are placed here to melt. These llanera pans are

then put inside the double boiler, and serve as the

containers for wax melting.

Stirring Rods

Stirring rods are used for stirring the scented oils with the

wax. These are made of stainless steel, making it highly

reusable.

VULCANDILĀ 23
Pouring Pot

Pouring pots can also serve as an alternative for double

boilers, as wax pellets can also be melted here and mixed

with scented oils. These are used for pouring the mixture

into the shot glasses.

3.1.5 Outsourced Production

3.1.5.1 Source of Supplies

Vulcandilā’s source of materials will be coming from The Organic

Sebum for the scented oils, Sajema Supply Inc. for beeswax, Chonghao

Supplies for candle wick, Home Gallery for shot glass and Papapel Products

and Packaging Prints for packaging. All are available for purchase.

3.1.5.2 Terms and Contract

The proponents had engaged into an agreement with its suppliers

and a written contract has been made which stipulates the terms with

regards to termination or modification. Terms of payment, Delivery, Risk of

Loss, Limited Warranty, Suppliers Identification, Buyer's Identification,

Insurance, Force Majeure, Confidentiality, Governing Law, and

Miscellaneous.

3.1.5.3 Business Process Protection

regarding its protection.

VULCANDILĀ 24
3.2 Intellectual Property

3.2.1 Trademark Process

1) Filing – All initial filings of an application for registration of a trademark in

the Philippines must be addressed to the Director and shall be in Filipino or

English. The requirements include a request for registration, information

regarding the applicant and the trademark to be registered. Part 4, Rule 400

under the Rules & Regulations on Trademarks, Service Marks, Trade

Names and Marked or Stamped Containers contains a complete list of the

requirements. Applications are handled by the Bureau of Trademarks of the

IPO. An applicant number will be issued after a thorough examination of the

application requirements has been performed by a duty officer and after the

filing fee is paid.

2) Search and Examination – The process of searching is done to determine

whether there are existing similar or identical trademarks to the one being

applied for. Afterwards, the application will be examined to see if it complies

with all rules and regulations. The application will be rejected if it doesn’t.

Some of the common objections involve prior conflicting rights with another

proprietor, conflicts with a well-known trademark, distinctiveness,

descriptiveness and too broad description of goods and services, among

others.

3) Publication in eGazette – The trademark is published in the IP Philippines

eGazette once the trademark is approved. This is done to let the public

VULCANDILĀ 25
know about the registration and give concerned parties a chance to oppose

it if deemed necessary.

4) Opposition – The public is given up to 30 days from the issuance of the

eGazette to oppose the trademark. After the Director of the Bureau of Legal

Affairs verifies that there is no notice of opposition, the office will issue the

Certificate of Registration.

5) Registration – The Certificate of Registration will again be published in

the IP Philippines eGazette for the second time then entered in the official

records. This will be valid for a period of ten (10) years, after which a request

for renewal can be filed. The entire process can take an average of 18 to

24 months. It might seem like such a long process to undertake. However,

being registered will give you the peace of mind you need, knowing that

only you have the exclusive rights to use your logo or trademark.

4.4 Form of Ownership

General Partnership is the type of proponents that organization agreed

upon by consisting of two or more persons agree to share in all assets, profits and

financial and legal liabilities of a business. Decision-making within general

partnerships may be achieved by majority vote or may be awarded to a single

partner or non-partner appointee, who can manage the partnership similar to a

company’s board of directors. Since all partners have unlimited liabilities, even

innocent partners can be held responsible when another partner commits

inappropriate or illegal action (Kenton, 2018).
