Introduction:
Globally, being online or being connected to the Internet is essential to individuals. Being
connected to the internet makes our life easier especially in communication. According to the
Johnson Company, as of now there are more than 66 million of internet users and actually,
Philippines is dubbed by several International Companies as the ICT hub of Asia (Johnson, 2008).
In this school, several people and students are using gadgets, but why do they need a gadget?
Well, gadget is the best tool for communication and also people need an online communication
but you need to be connected first to the internet. Through internet also we can search some
information, share our opinions to the public, status, and message a friend. But without internet, all
of these will not work. Because of this, some students said that without internet, all
technologies/gadgets are useless but with the present of this discovery, our life became more easy
as possible.
Being online or connected to the internet has its advantages and disadvantages in this situation.
Some people use this internet as their way to communicate and search some answers to their home
works so that their work will be easier and faster. But on the other hand, some people use the
internet in order them to share fake information and deceive innocent people and that was the
disadvantage if others will use internet improperly because we are now in millennial Generation,
The researchers conducted this study in this school, in order to clarify the importance of Internet
Connection to individuals especially to the senior high school students here in Rafael B. Lacson
Memorial High School. Through this study, hoping that respondents will cooperate in our study by
2
giving their specific reasons why they need an internet Connection and how important to them .
Chapter 1 . The Research Problem
The researchers provided 3 possible research topics to be conduct at Rafael B. Lacson Memorial
Since we are a computer system servicing students, we provide those topics to be relate
on our course. We decide to choose Topic B which “The importance of Internet connection to
students.” We will conduct the study in Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School and our
respondents will be the senior high school students of the said school.
General Objectives:
This study aims to determine the importance of Internet connection of Senior High School
Students at Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School of Talisay City during the Second Semester
Specific Objectives:

According to the research of Socorro Gultiano last August 2016 ,about 40% of the country’s
public high schools have computers that have potential for Internet connectivity. However,
only 4% of these schools give students access to and training on the use of the Internet.
The salient findings culled from the FGDs can be summarized as follows:
1) The students make use of the Internet for their studies, i.e., to help with their assignments and
2) Although most schools allow their students to use the school computers and the Internet, the
limited time of use (within school hours) and crowding in the schools make Internet Cafés a more
attractive and more frequented place for Internet access among students. The only disadvantage of
the Internet Café is the cost of use (around 60 cents per hour), which the students can hardly afford.
Only a small fraction of students have computers with Internet connection at home.
3) In general, boys and girls use the Internet for different reasons. Boys play online games and watch
pornography, while girls prefer to listen to music and engage in social networking. It is perceived
that online games are oftentimes addictive and can be detrimental to their studies; while social
networking is generally harmless but can also lead to adverse consequences for women, such as
sexual exploitation by foreign chat-mates, and searching for online romantic relationships or
marriage partners.
4) The students report addiction as the main disadvantage of Internet use. This then causes problems
with their studies and relationship with their parents. There are also those who report health
5) Although students are aware of some negative effects of Internet use, they are largely unaware of 6
other ethical concerns such as plagiarism and piracy. Many claim that they print entire pages
directly from the Internet, photocopy this for their classmates, and submit it as their assignment.
Downloading of files and videos are done indiscriminately. Teachers have not included ethical
According to the research from the group of Jun Karren Caparoso that was conducted last
April 11,2017, they conclude that Advancement in technology brings major impacts on
education, the Philippine Educational System may expand their investment in promoting
Internet use in school/university education to enhance the performance of the students and
produce better results. Educators may inculcate the habit of using the Internet to students by
giving the students a set of assignments, projects, and online quizzes that will encourage
them to use it for academic purposes. Students may be re-oriented on the need to set their
priorities right. This drive towards reorientation must be campaigned by the school
management in conjunction with the parents/guardians of the students. While the usage of
negative effects of their over-dependency and unregulated use of Internet. Similarly, the
School administrators may be more alive to their responsibilities by ensuring conformity to
the school laid down rules and regulations on student’s use of Internet during class session.
According to the study of Jee Y. Geronimo (March 21, 2015), the Internet may be a
distraction to many, but one study shows most Filipinos believe that increasing usage
In a report on Thursday, March 19, US-based Pew Research Center said 88% of Filipinos see that

But the same study showed less than half (42%) in the Philippines have Internet access. For those
who are connected, 93% use social media. (READ: Social media in PH: Religion more popular than
politics)
Although the Philippines is often dubbed the "social media capital" of the world, a 2014 United
Nations report showed only 37% of Filipinos were able to use the Internet in 2013, still below the
The Pew Research Center also showed that getting information about politics, health, and
government services is a common activity among Internet users worldwide, next to socializing,
According to the study of Ibrahim Poda, the internet has become an indispensable tool in the
twenty first century. However, the development may be slowed by a lack of appropriate
facilities in less developed nations. A study of existing facilities in Burkina Faso was
undertaken to answer five questions on the participants’ perspectives on internet usage: (a)
how do the participants perceive internet utilisation; (b) what factors encourage the use of
the internet; (c) what factors discourage internet usage; (d) is the internet a tool for
enhancing learning and (e) how can improved management of available technology lead to
were selected because of their interest and involvement with technology, their computer
knowledge and their prior experience with the internet. The current status of internet
knowledge and utilisation were examined and factors that influenced internet usage were
considered. Six recommendations for improved practice at the post-secondary level were
discussed.
According to the research of Harlina Halizah Siraj, he founded that internet is the most
academic knowledge, research and assignments by accessing to the information world and
also by easy communication to their academic community. Though there are many benefits
linked with Internet use, there has been a growing concern regarding the risk associated with
Internet overuse. It is reported that Internet has a significant decrement onto students'
performance.
9
According to the research of Jacob Poushter (February 22, 2016)
In many advanced economies, the ubiquity of the internet is now a given. It permeates commerce,
social interactions, politics, culture and daily life. But this is not the case in all parts of the world.
And while internet access continues to grow in poorer nations, there is still a long way to go before
Chapter 3: Methodology
This section describes actions to be taken to investigate a research problem and the
rationale for the application of specific procedures or techniques used to identify, select, process,
and analyze information applied to understanding the problem. (Kallet 2004). This study will
further explain and present the research design of this study, the research/data-gathering instruments
used, the validity of the data-gathering instruments, , the conduct of the study and the procedures in
Research design
The research design refers to the overall strategy that you choose to integrate the different
components of the study in a coherent and logical way (De Vaus,2006). Descriptive type of
research was used in this study. Descriptive research designs was a type of study which provide
answers to the questions of who, what, when, where, and how associated with a particular research
problem; a descriptive study cannot conclusively ascertain answers to why. Descriptive research is
used to obtain information concerning the current status of the phenomena and to describe "what
Specifically, the researcher made one test survey instrument and reproduce it based on the
sample size to get data about the Importance of Internet Connection to the Senior High School
Students of Rafael B. Lacson Memorial High School. The researcher conducted the study logically.
A researcher-made questionnaire was first checked by the research Adviser and validated by experts
on the fields of Technologies including Internet who was used to answer the specific problems at
the Statement of the Problem (SOP) section. Therefore, data-gathering and analytical procedure was

A total of 50 male and female students was taken to be the respondents of our study. The sample
size was taken randomly from the different sections of Grade 11 and Grade 12.
Data-gathering Instrument
To collect the data from the respondents, the researcher made a type-written questionnaire with
specific number of items so that it will be easy to the respondents to choose their response. Items in
questionnaire was concerning for being online of the respondents, How often they use it and how
affects their life as a student and How can be helpful for them to use this. They will provide first
their name , gender and their grade level together with their chosen track and strand and section.
Afterwards, the first question will asked them if they used internet and how often. Question number
2 will asked their monthly family income and the question number will be their possible reasons
why they used internet. As the researchers we are looking forward that the results of our data
gathering is concrete. You can see the sample survey questionnaire that was used in Appendix A
Data-Gathering Procedure
To start the data collection, we inquire the total number of students for each section by asking a
list of students’ name for each sections and we do our lottery sampling technique to pick a name for
each sections based on the sample size required without bias. After selecting the sample randomly
and to become our respondents to our study, we validated our questionnaire to all expertise in the
fields of Technology using our validation sheet , letter and rating tool. Aftrewards, the researcher
distributed the survey-questionnaire for each randomly chosen respondents from Grade 11 and
Grade 12. Respondents must answer the questionnaire based on their knowledge and experience
together with the internet connection and how it gives importance to their life as a student. Because
of this data gathering technique that was done by the researchers, collection of information from the
excel. This section will show The Summary profiling of the respondents including their sex, grade
level, track and strand and their response to our questions about internet’s importance.

B. Hypothesis Testing
The collected data was analyzed by the researcher by encoding into Microsoft excel to
classify the questions into their category . We used z-test for two means (male and female)
to give the P value so that we can decide and conclude for the results. Before we analyze the
data, we provide first a number for each respondent’s questionnaire and we encode their
answers through a numbers of 1- to represents their answer such as 5 is the highest and 1 or 0
is lowest. After that we classify all the questions into their category which is question number
