2. PACKING LIST SPECIFICATIONS (DBOM)

The Packing List consists on a detail list of all the components of a particular
project. Its final goal is to provide, along with a complete set of shop drawings, all
the information needed for fabrication, dispatch and erection of the project’s
structure.

Tekla users should not elaborate a DBOM independently of the shop drawings since
these are included in the shop drawings. DBOM will be considered for erection,
cladding production and dispatch purposes.

The Packing List has five parts: the header, the form’s title, the project’s information
table, the main body, and the footer.

2.1. The header: it has brief information of the steel fabricator, along with its
approval by the company’s General Manager.
2.2. The form’s title: it shows the name of the form in use in Spanish and English
languages, with the capital letters DBOM: Detail Bill of Materials) and the
identification number for this form (F-6).
2.3. The project’s information table: provides the name of the Project that will be
fabricated, the project’s location, the customer’s name, project’s code, the type of
painting and cleaning method that will be applied to the structure. It also shows
the name of the detailer and the form’s elaboration date, along with the
fabricator’s logo.
2.4. The main body: is the main information in the packing list. It shows the
identification number for all steel pieces, the type of material, lengths (in meters),
measurement units (units or feet), weights (in pounds), areas (in square meters),
and others. In it, all the project’s elements are displayed with all their specific
information. Generally, the structural members on the list are classified in the

6.1. Cleaning
The standard cleaning process is SSPC-SP14 (Industrial Blast Cleaning)
The following Cleaning procedures are used in the shop:

6.1.1. SSPC-SP3 (Power Tool Cleaning)

Power Tool Cleaning removes all loose mill scale, loose rust, and other detrimental foreign matter.
It is not intended that adherent mill scale, rust, and paint be removed by this process. Mill scale,
rust, and paint are considered adherent if they cannot be removed by lifting with a dull putty knife.
Before power tool cleaning, remove visible oil, grease, soluble welding residues, and salts by the
methods outlined in SSPC-SP1. For complete instructions, refer to Steel Structures Paint Council
Surface Preparation Specification No. 3.
6.1.2. SSPC-SP5 (White Metal Blast Cleaning)
A White Metal Blast Cleaned surface, when viewed without magnification, shall be free of all visible
oil, grease, dirt, dust, mill scale, rust, paint, oxides, corrosion products, and other foreign matter.
Before blast cleaning, visible deposits of oil or grease shall be removed by any of the methods
specified in SSPC-SP1 or other agreed upon methods. For complete instructions, refer to Joint
Surface Preparation Standard SSPC-SP5/NACE No. 1.

6.1.3. SSPC-SP6 (Commercial Blast Cleaning)

A Commercial Blast Cleaned surface, when viewed without magnification, shall be free of all visible
oil, grease, dirt, dust, mill scale, rust, paint, oxides, corrosion products, and other foreign matter,

surface area and may consist of light shadows, slight streaks, or minor discoloration caused by
stains of rust, stains of mill scale, or stains of previously applied paint. Before blast cleaning, visible
deposits of oil or grease shall be removed by any of the methods specified in SSPC-SP1 or other
agreed upon methods. For complete instructions, refer to Joint Surface Preparation Standard SSPC-
SP10/NACE No. 2

6.1.5. SSPC-SP14 (Industrial Blast Cleaning)

Industrial blast cleaning provides a greater degree of cleaning than brush blast off cleaning (SSPC
7/NACE No. 4), but less than commercial blast cleaning (SSPC-6/NACE No. 3). Industrial blast
cleaning is used when the objective is to remove most of the mill scale, and rust, but when the
extra effort is required to remove every trace of these is determined to be unwarranted.

6.2. Paint
6.2.1. The Standard Paint is the “Standard AE Green”, unless otherwise specified in
the contract. Standard AE Green: Alkyd painting with high chromate content, green color.
6.2.2. The specification for the film thickness and application of the paint will be
provided by the paint fabricator. That information will be specified at the
packing list.
6.3. No Paint areas
6.3.1. Shop drawings shall indicate areas where no paint is to be applied.
6.3.2. These no paint areas include interior faces of flange-plates, exterior flange
surfaces where flange-plates are to be welded and, in general, any surface that
will receive field welds.

7. CONNECTIONS

7.1. Base plates

Base plates shall be detailed with bolts outside the rectangle enveloping the cross
section unless otherwise indicated. Base plate shall have stiffeners on all four
corners, three stiffeners per corner for W shapes, two for square HSS sections and
four for Pipes. The base plate thickness shall not be less than the flange thickness
for W shapes or the wall thickness for HSS sections and Pipes. Anchor bolt holes on
base plates shall be either oversized (OVS) or extra-oversized (XOVS). Default
diameter for anchor bolts is ø1” unless otherwise specified.

1. Plates shall be fabricated with rolling direction parallel to the beam.

2. CJP groove weld: single or double bevel. Weld in shop or field. When using single-bevel groove weld, remove backing after welding,
back-gouge, and reinforce with 5/16”-minimum fillet weld. When using double bevel weld, back-gouge first weld before welding other
side. If plates are shop welded to column, care must be exercised in locating and leveling plates, as shimming is not allowed between
the plates and the beam flanges.
3. Fillet welds at edges of beam flanges to plate. Provide weld tabs at end to provide full weld throat thickness to the end of the plate.
Remove weld tabs and grind the end of the weld smooth. Use care to avoid grinding marks on the beam flange.
4. Fillet weld at end of flange plate to beam flange. Maintain full weld throat thickness to within 1” of the edge of the flange.
5. Shear tab of length equal to db-2k–2”. Shear tab thickness should match that of beam web.
