Assessment:

As I began researching, I immediately knew which topics I wanted to gain more information about first.

Since entrepreneurship has many components to it ranging back to the 1900s, looking at current trends and

information on entrepreneurship would prove to be more beneficial. After narrowing down the number of

articles that popped up in my search results, I was able to find more relevant information. According to the

source, The effect of mobile technology on self-employment in Kenya stated that the number of entrepreneurs

in today’s society is growing rapidly, along with the direct correlation between technology access and

self-employment rates. If a business has access to technology it is likely to advance compared to one that would

not have access.

But in America, this could also be applicable becuase some companies such as Amazon, Apple, Google,

Facebook are all created by entrepreneus that have utilized technology into their ideas. Because their technology

was superior to pre-existing technology they were able to expand their businesses and have success. Take for

example Walt Disney, a successful entrepreneur that bought his vision to life. He initially started out his life

drawing because it was one of his passions, but then he got an opportunity to turn it into something more.

Which led him to create some of the world's biggest theme parks. Young entrepreneurs similarly want to bring

their vision to life. Consequently, the number of small businesses and start-up enterprises has become more

common. Along with new businesses popping up, entrepreneurs are exhibiting the same characteristics or

attitudes towards growing their businesses or expanding their platform.

Some highlights that I learned from my research experience is that entrepreneurship is a vaguely new

field that doesn't have much exposure yet. I know this from when I looked into how entrepreneur students are

being taught. In the article, University Entrepreneurship Education, the study discusses how entrepreneurship

majors are only learning traditional entrepreneurship methods. The methods include “trying to teach small parts

of all aspects of running a business (marketing, management, accounting, etc.) into one course where planning

and predictability were emphasized. But, entrepreneurship is a complex process that lacks linearity of business

thinking and entrepreneurship students need to master uncertain environments (Neck and Greene

2011)”(Markus and Klinton). This made me question if I should focus on other business majors instead of

entrepreneurship major, and made me question future plans for myself. However, it also gave evidence as to

why students that have not taken entrepreneurship majors have also become successful in running and

managing a business.

Something unexpected I learned about entrepreneurship was how it can be practiced by anyone that has

a passion to learn and create change. From the little knowledge I had about entrepreneurship, I only thought

students that have taken the major in college and have had a master's degree in business would be able to

become the most successful entrepreneurs. But I soon realized this was a false assumption because the most

successful entrepreneurs are the ones who have the voice and capability to create change within their society.

Confidence, poise, passion, creativity, and communication are key characteristics that entrepreneurs commonly

posses which is what makes them successful.

This new information helped me realize that if I were to go into the entrepreneurship field it would be

hard and competitive as there are already many small businesses similar. However, I also learned that predicting

the future of entrepreneurship is highly unlikely because it is influenced by multiple factors such as the stock

market, existing businesses, nations' economies, and personal mindset. If all these factors don’t aline then

entrepreneurs won't start their venture, and it could cause the competition in the small business field to drop.

Additionally, the future is unpredictable for entrepreneurs because while most sources stated growth in

entrepreneurship other sources also stated that entrepreneurship was declining.

Now that I know this information from scholarly articles, when I go on interviews I can apply this

knowledge and ask professionals already placed in that setting what they may think about a decline/growth in

entrepreneurship. If there is a trend between the answers I get from professionals then I can apply that towards

my conclusive statement/research.

This theory or trend that I discovered worried me because I don't want to go into a field that is highly

competitive because that educes my chances for success. Also, learning that schooling in college for

entrepreneurs involves basic traditional methods that are not really helpful in real-life settings, made me anxious

and nervous about choosing this as a career path. However, despite all this, I became really excited about being

able to talk to professionals about the information that I just learned and see it about to happen in front of me

during mentor visits. I also am excited to observe how entrepreneurs act around employees versus other

professionals and see how this could potentially have a trend.
