Male Domination in

Modern Society
MALE DOMINATION
❖ Throughout history, societies have used gender classification to separate Male and
Female roles. Men as a group have continued to be the dominant gender in every
society. Males are seen as aggressive, strong, a provider and the decision maker,
while females are nurturing, submissive, gentile, delicate and not needed to make
decisions.
❖ Male Dominated means dominated or controlled by males; having more males,
especially in powerful positions, than females.
❖ Despite several prominent Feminist movements throughout history, society
continues to hold strong to patriarchal ideology that has long since oppressed and
discriminated against woman on the basis of sex and gender.
❖ For centuries, women have been particularly vulnerable to the effects of
objectification. The female population has undoubtedly struggled throughout
history to exist beyond their physicality but sadly to no avail. The society has
changed a lot and so is the position of women , but still male domination in there in
the modern society in some forms which we will discuss.
HOW DID MEN BECOME DOMINANT?
❖ The male plays a dominant role in competing among other males for supremacy. The
dominant male then secures greater rights over not only selection of female partners,
but also food, water, and territory. The female of the species is won by the dominant
male, impregnated, and delivers progeny. Not only that, but the role of women in the
sex act itself was more passive, as the male penetrated the female in a more
aggressive and powerful role. For centuries, the fact was that the sex act was
pleasurable only for the male, while for females pleasure was more elusive and simply
unimportant. Further in regard dominance roles, there is a hierarchy among females,
as well, that mirrors how male dominance plays out. A powerful female will reject a
lesser male. And so forth.
❖ This determining factor for male dominance in humans would have emerged with
greater importance as humans progressed from preliterate, loosely connected, and
egalitarian hunter-gathers to the more organized agricultural societies.
❖ When marriage arrangements were made, it tended to make more sense for women to
leave their families to join men on farms they'd been working for years than for men
to abandon their farms to join their wives. Thus, a pattern emerged from the
circumstances wherein women were repeatedly removed from their circles of social
influence while men were not. This also gradually led to men as a group having more
social influence than women.
MALE DOMINATION IN WORKPLACE
❖ There is a huge difference of pay between a male and female. About seventy-five percent of
the jobs in well-paid professions are held by men and even if women are able to get equal
jobs they are still paid considerably less. As far as management motivation is concerned
most of the recent studies show that there is very little difference in the aspirations and
goals between males and females, then “Why are female paid less?”.
❖ Females are segregated, although they are just as intelligent as men. Eved when the
females are more educated as compared to men, they are paid less by the companies. This
is not only affecting females but also the companies profit and more gain.
❖ Patriarchal society has been apparent throughout history, where males were always
superior over women. However, times have passed, and studies show that women are just
as capable of doing a specific job as men. Gender prejudice in workplaces are erroneous
assumptions .
❖ American President Obama states that, “while many women are working hard to support
themselves and their families, they’re still facing unfair choices, outdated workplace
policies (Remarks by the President on Women and the Economy )” describing the
hardships women are faced with, despite their equal intelligence compared to males.
❖  It is not that women, do not leave their careers only because they would like to stay at
home with their children; women and families are left with that choice ,because of unfair
payments from companies. It is harder for a women to be involved in economies because
businesses look down upon them, therefore, leaving them with no other option than
housework.
❖ Mostly males would be the one denying gender equalities because of their status as
businessmen, not wanting women to get paid more; to keep their paychecks high. They do
not want women to be on the same level as they are, they always want to be above women
and dominate them.
OBJECTIFICATION OF FEMALE
❖ In a society that idolizes celebrities, the media has the greatest
influence on how women are universally perceived. At the expense
of women across the globe, mass media intertwined with cultural
patriarchal practices, continue to promote overtly sexualized
messages and images that systematically subordinate female
happiness to that of men.
❖ What is objectification of females and how does it relate to male
dominance? This is something that reduces females to primarily a
body, and might temporarily make male feel a little bit bigger. It's a
way of putting them down, while building yourself up.
❖ The objectification of women taking place in the sexually oriented
depictions of women in advertising and media, women being
portrayed as weak or submissive through pornography, images in
more mainstream media such
as advertising and art, stripping and prostitution, men brazenly
evaluating or judging women sexually or aesthetically in public
spaces and events, such as beauty contests, and the presumed
need for cosmetic surgery, particularly breast enlargement
and labiaplasty. Objectification in the media can range from subtle
forms, such as the lack of main female characters, to very explicit
forms such as highly sexualized dialogue and provocatively
dressed female characters. This in turn promotes the male
dominance in the society.
SUBMISSIVE
❖ Female submission describes a relationship in which a
female submits to the dominance of a sexual partner. The
submission can be voluntary and consensual. The dominant partner
is usually a man, but can also be another woman, or there can be
multiple dominant partners simultaneously. The term female
submission most commonly refers to a woman who derives sexual
pleasure or emotional gratification from relinquishing (to varying
degrees) control to (as well as satisfying) a trusted dominant partner.
❖ Submission may be manifested in a multitude of ways whereby a
woman relinquishes sexual or personal control to another, such as
acts of servitue, submission to humiliation or punishment such
as erotic spanking, or other activities, at times in association
with bondage. Female submission can take the form of engaging in
sexual activity with a person other than her normal partner, as in the
case of swinging(sometimes called wife swapping) or prostitution.
❖ BDSM is the acronym for “Bondage,Discipline, and Sadomasochism.”
Which sounds like a form of sexual expression highlighting the
harshness of inflicting and receiving pain. Women are mostly shown
and not men in BDSM. Women are in sexual relationship also shown
as submissive, less powerful and a slave to male in the society. This
can be clearly seen in movies also, where women are seen as
submissive and the lesser one as compared to males.
IS MODERN SOCIETY A PATRIARCHAL SOCIETY?
❖ Modern, western society is a patriarchal society, where the structure is based on rule by men and
supports the needs of men. Men are in control at home, in business, in government, in sports,
indeed virtually everywhere. Religion is male dominated and men teach patriarchal ideology
to children in schools. Women end up confined to specific, clearly defined roles. Male
dominance is an inherent part of this system such that, as men also don’t even realize it’s there.
The archetype of the tribal leader has been imprinted deep into our subconscious, the
established order is rarely challenged and male privilege is accepted as the norm.
❖ For many men this is difficult to accept equality of both sexes, it challenges their view of how
society should work. They react by using their male power to dominate and contain their
women. They do what in their minds is the right thing: keeping women in their place. In
some cases men lose their sense of normality and even turn to rape and physical abuse.
❖ Men are at a point where they need to rethink the whole concept of male dominance and update
their ideas to fit in with how society is developing. It is time to understand and accept that letting
go of the need to dominate does not mean letting go of their masculine core. It is time to see that
men can still be strong without dominating, indeed they can use their masculinity to support
women and society with needing to control either.
❖ The display of male power we still witness today doesn’t hold back the development of a sane
and just society. Modern women are perfectly capable of doing much of what men are doing. No
amount of domination by men is going to change their minds about how society should be. They
look for equality and justice, not a reversal of the balance of power. Many men, however, are
under the misconception that they are in competition with the people around them, in particular
the women who they see as trying to emasculate them.
