Sapphires celebrate centenary
Some of Little Sutton Sapphires Women’s
Institute in front of the centenary bed that they
fundraised for in recognition on 100 years of the
Cheshire Federation of Women’s Institutes.
Jean Harding, Federation Chair asked every WI
to plant a tree in their area be it in the grounds
of a hall they meet in or in a public place in
their community to mark Cheshire Federations
Centenary year in 2020 with the aim of having
over 200 additional trees being planted around
Cheshire.
The Sapphires WI formed in 2016 and have been
active within the community since. They meet the second Wednesday of every month in the Methodist
Hall at 18.30. Visitors are always welcome to go along and see what they get up to and should contact
them to book a place by emailing littlesuttonsapphireswi@outlook.com or find them on social media.

The Little Sutton Village Regeneration group are
again encouraging all shops and businesses to
participate in this year’s shop window display
competition.
Windows can be decorated from the beginning of
December, with judging taking place during w/c 16th
December.
Over the past two years many businesses have
taken part, but not all, so the organisers want a 100
per cent take up this year and make Christmas in the
village one to remember.

opposite Little Sutton Community Centre due
to extra safety concerns being raised during the
consultation. Instead, a section of the original
marked out bays will have the limited waiting
revoked which will allow for unlimited parking.

Beechcroft Drive – The rear door of a
property was found with scorch and burn
marks near to the handle.
Seymour Drive – Burglars broke in
through the back door and got into the loft
but nothing was taken.
Overpool Road – A cordless drill was
stolen from a house.
Sutton Way – A safe and a Samsung
Galaxy mobile were stolen from a house.
Mill Lane – Thieves stole a cash box
and coin jars from the café area at Bridge

Chester Road – A woman kicked

damaged by man jumping over it.
Faraday Road – External wire for Virgin
media was pulled out and cut.
Fenwick Road – A man and woman
were seen removing copper piping and
brass cuttings from a front garden. When
disturbed by home owner the pair drove
off in a faded red Ford Transit towards the

of the morning four or five males were
seen climbing the fire escape and looking
around the grounds of The Chimneys pub.
When the alarm sounded they ran back to
a dark coloured saloon vehicle which was

the wooden doors off the hinges.

cable was cut through on three separate

Rossmore Road West – The padlock
was cut on a Tesco delivery van but
nothing was taken.

Q. How long do the hairs need to be before I can have them waxed?
A. Barely a week goes by when we are not asked this question. Therapists who have completed a basic waxing
course will have a standard answer, but really there is no simple answer! This is because it is not just the length
of the hair that matters, but how coarse the hair is, where it is situated on the body and previous hair removal
techniques that have been used. If you are in any doubt that you have sufficient hair growth for effective removal
then always check with your waxing specialist first.

Q. Why do I need to stick to a special after care routine following waxing?

A. Following a waxing treatment you will always be given after care advice. This is mainly because when the
hairs are removed, the hair follicles (which are the small pockets in the skin that the hairs grow from) are left
‘open’ for up to 48 hours. During this time the skin is more prone to irritation and infection so avoiding certain
products and activities is advisable. There is also a mild heat reaction in the skin so avoiding further heat is also
something that we recommend. Some of the aftercare is standard and some of it will be tailored to suit your
particular hair type, skin type and lifestyle.

 Hooton Park hangar history tours
The Hooton Park Trust hosts monthly free history tours which are open to everyone.
They normally take place on the last Friday of the month, and the next one is on Sunday 24th
November, from 1pm-2.30pm.

Safe stolen in burglary
Police are appealing for witnesses following a burglary at an address in Sutton Way.
Sometime between 10.30am and 2.40pm on Monday 30th September, thieves gained
access to the address and stole a safe which contained cash as well as personal
documents including passports.
DC Iain Ross said: “Even though the victims were not at home at the time they are
particularly shaken up by the burglary which goes to show that this type of crime is not just
about having items stolen, it takes a significant emotional toll on a person.
“I would urge anyone with information about the burglary or who may have seen a small
digital safe discarded to contact police to help us find those responsible.”

Little Sutton station plans
On Saturday 5th October the community was welcomed into the
former ticket office at Little Sutton Railway Station. The station was
opened on 1st July 1963 and is one of only a few grade two listed
buildings in Little Sutton village. The exterior is built with beautiful
sandstone, in the same style as other stations on the Hooton to
Helsby line.
These days part of the building is used as a builders’ yard, however
the former ticket office has remained closed since 1994 when the line
was electrified.
The open day was organised by North Cheshire Community Rail Partnership to showcase a potential
project that could see the former ticket office restored and reopened as a community café managed
by 1st Enable, a local organisation supporting people with additional needs.
The restoration plans were displayed within the current ticket office, allowing residents an oppor-
tunity to see the current condition of the building and the proposal.
The design would see the conversion of three ground floor rooms into a kitchen, toilet and two
seating areas. The scheme seeks to maintain the original interior design of the station ticket office
dating back to the mid 1950s and 60s, including direct access to the platform.
Merseyrail, the current operators of the line, will be introducing a new style of coaches from 2020,
providing better accessibility and hopefully more travellers. Network Rail, who own the building, have
already agreed to restore the exterior.
The initial idea was suggested by former councillor Angela Claydon, who maintains her involve-ment
within the village and now acts as the Little
Sutton Railway Champion.
The restoration is anticipated to cost in the
region of £200,000 and could be funded by
the sale of the Reading Room site at the top
of Station Road. Extra funding would also be
required from the Railway Heritage Trust, the
National Lottery and other funders.
