ONE HUNDRED
CHRISTMASES
This year is a very special one for Bettys, as we celebrate 100 years since our
founder Frederick Belmont welcomed the first customers through the doors of
his new Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate. A lot has changed since then, but when
it comes to Christmas there are traditions we’ll always cherish.
We know exactly how long to wait for our rich and fruity Christmas puddings
to mature, that nothing beats the taste of a freshly baked mince pie, that there’s
no age limit for hanging up your stocking and that the best gifts are the ones
given with joy. Above all, we’re delighted and humbled that, a century and
generations later, Bettys has become a great Christmas tradition for so many.

Our treats contain only the ingredients that make them delicious,
so we want you to enjoy them at their best.

W e’ve come a long way at Bettys

in our first 100 years, but if our
founder Frederick Belmont were to
visit our Craft Bakery in Harrogate today, he’d
find much that was reassuringly familiar. As a
trained baker and confectioner he’d be pleased
to see the traditional ingredients and methods
that we still use, and the craft that goes into
creating our treats.
As in Frederick’s time, we don’t use artificial
preservatives and many things are made fresh just
before we carefully package them for posting.
So we recommend that some of our treats, such
as our famous Fat Rascals, are eaten as soon as
possible to taste them at their very best. But
unlike in 1919, many can also be popped in your
freezer to enjoy later. Look out for the freezable
icon in these pages.
