UTBK (Ujian Tulis Berbasis Komputer) is a kind of university entrance examination held

annually after national examination in the form of computer based. Before UTBK, Indonesia’s
national university entrance examination is called SBMPTN and is held using paper-based.
UTBK 2019, students do not use old system that determine students’ passing requirement to a
national university in Indonesia by adjusting to their choice of university in advance. Instead,
students will conduct their entrance examination first and acquire a kind of certificate depicting
score that they achieved. After that, they will apply to each university that they think suites
their score. This new system enables students to balance their abilities and wants.

Data Collection
The purpose of collecting this university entrance examination score data is to serve as a
standard of competency in order to determine students’ admission judgement into certain
national university in Indonesia. Furthermore, data can also be used to set passing grade for
each university according to their quota of acceptance. In the article, data is collected through
computer-based examination score of all students attending UTBK. Score is first stored in a
server and being gathered into a main server in capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta in order to be
further analyze by data analyst committee in UTBK. Raw data consist of ungrouped score is
then accessed by UTBK committee coordinating with each university representatives in the
purpose of producing certificates of examination depicting their examination score in each
subject that they choose.

Data Organizing
After raw data is pooled, this data is then processed by organizing it into certain relevant
category that can help to get a conclusion in students’ overall performance in the examination.
In the article, as we can see, data is organized using level of score achieved by students in each
subject being tested. Data is grouped into kind of subjects because it can help UTBK committee
to differentiate students according to the major they are choosing. Meanwhile, organizing data
using level of score will enable committee to observe the overall competency of Indonesian
students matched with university’s standard. Usually, every examination score will be
organized chronologically from year to year in order to observe students’ education quality
improvement. However, since it is the first year that this UTBK system is implemented, there
is no need to compare the score with last year’s score.
Data Presentation
Data presentation is useful when data analyst wants to communicate their results of analyzing
to targeted audience. In this article, the main targeted audience is students who are using the
results of examination to apply for national university in Indonesia, national university in
Indonesia, teacher who are supporting their students for national university admission and
prospective students who are going to apply for next period of UTBK. Data is presented using
both qualitative frequency table and quantitative cumulative frequency table. Qualitative
frequency table is used to depict the statistics score achieved by students in each subject such
as compulsory subjects TPA (Tes Potensi Akademik) and elective subjects in both science and
social majoring. Meanwhile, cumulative frequency table is used to depict score dispersion and
range in each subject being tested and number of participants in each subject. Overall, usage
of frequency table will show more detail information regarding to score achieved by students
this year rather than comparison to last year’s score.

Data interpretation
After data is presented in certain ways such as frequency table, it must be interpreted so that
majority of people will understand the main point of analyzing entrance examination score and
to get its conclusion. As we can see from the article, data is interpreted using a few descriptive
statistical concepts such as, median and range (maximum and minimum) in each subject.
Analyzing its range can help the author to understand more regarding to UTBK score
dispersion and to observe education quality in each city by its average score achieved.
Meanwhile, median of the score is measured in order to observe the central tendencies of data.
Moreover, grouped data is then ranked based on ten states that acquire the highest average
score in UTBK 2019.

Overall, this news shows a clear vision regarding students’ entrance examination score by
depicting its descriptive statistical characteristics that consist of central tendencies and
dispersion. With this data analysis, the data will hopefully help other students to have a picture
regarding the standard of competencies in UTBK.
