I. Introduction

1.1 Robotek Competition

Robotek Competition Arduino Category is open to Junior and Senior high schools students’ age
from 12 - 18 years old that promotes multidisciplinary learning skills through the use of robotics
that deals with problem solving, critical thinking, data analyzing and teamwork.

The Arduino is the main platform used to create DIY projects which involves creativity, coding,
engineering concepts and design to accomplish the given task to the students who will participate
on the competition.

1.2 Product Description

Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on easy-to-use hardware and

software. Arduino boards are able to read inputs you can control your board on what to do by
sending a set of instructions to the microcontroller and on this you can expand your imagination and
creativity on electronics and engineering without a limit.

The open-source Arduino Software (IDE) makes it easy to write code and upload it to the board. It
runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The environment is written in Java and based on processing
and other open-source software.

1.3 Arduino Theme

The theme of Robotek Arduino Category for the year is Saving Planet Earth for free style and Sorting
out garbage using a Robotic arm, which will test the participant’s skills in engineering technology,
electronics and circuits, coding and data analyzing, strategy and team work throughout the entire
competition.

Participants will build and construct the both assign projects from scratch using recyclable materials
combine with Arduino Microcontroller to control the projects either autonomously or manually
operated.

Part 1: Free style Category: “Saving Planet Earth”

Presentation

Presentation will last for 10 minutes, using the methods of Q& A and on the spot questions and
problem solving to examine the student's knowledge in robotics. All team members must be present
and participate together. Coach are not allowed to accompany them during the presentation.

Each team must arrive 5 minutes before in the presentation area with them 2 copies of engineering

Teams are not required to bring any electronic communication devices throughout the entire
competition or even asking for help from the coaches. Teams caught disregarding to the rules can
get disqualification.
Part 2: Robotic Arm Category: “Sorting out garbage “

The competition consists of a 150 minutes (2.5 hours) for assembling the robotic arm, programming,
troubleshooting and testing time on their assign assembly area. Participants are not allowed to leave
outside of specified assembly area.

The robotic arm can only be powered by a power bank, rechargeable battery or any external power to
complete the mission. The robotics arm must have 4 motors (9G servo motor, stepper motor, DC motor
or encoder motor “from Arduino or MakeBlock kits”) only to perform the required task, 4 controller
(potentiometer or button), maximum of 2 Sensors (ultrasonic) and 1 Arduino microcontroller only.

The robotic arm category will be given a total points of 50, robots will be examine to the total points
which are divided into 4 criteria: Engineering criteria; Mechanism & Programming (10 pts.), manual
operation (10 pts.), innovation and technology (10 pts.) and Battle criteria; Total number of sorted
garbage (20 pts.).

Scoring Detailed:

For Automatic Stage for every cylinder can push away from the safe zone to the garbage zone by the
robotic arm the team will score 5 pts., if 2 cylinder have completely move to the designated areas a
total score of 10 pts. will be given to the team. The cylinder must be completely in the garbage zone,
otherwise no points will be scored. If in case of action the cylinder knockdown after placing it at the
garbage zone, no points will be given. The automatic stage will only last for 30 secs.

For Modification Stage teams can modify the robot at the playing area for only 60 secs. Failing to do
so the completion will commence to the next stage.

For Manual Stage for every cylinder move outside the safe zone to the garbage zone by picking up and
transferring by the robotic arm the team will score 5 pts., if 2 cylinder have transferred completely a
total score of 10 pts. will be given to the team. The cylinder must be completely in the garbage zone,
otherwise no points will be scored. If in case of action the cylinder knockdown after placing it at the
garbage zone, no points will be given. The manual stage will only last for 90 secs.

Total Score will computed based on the total number of score from Engineering criteria + Battle Criteria
(automatic stage + manual stage).
If there are teams with the same ranking points, the points will be determined according to the
following rules:

a. Compare the total points obtained in the automatic and manual stage. The winner with the higher
total accumulated points win.

b. If above condition are the same, competition points based on presentation stage. The winner
with the higher total accumulated points win.

c. If above condition are still the same, an additional match will be held, points will be based upon
the fastest team who completed the task. The winner with the higher total accumulated points
win.
