EET summary notes

Thevenin’s theorem- states that any linear circuit that is complex can be
simplified by replaced the circuit with a single voltage in series resistance
connected across a load.
Superposition states that in a linear circuit with several sources, the current and
voltage for any element in the circuit is the sum of the currents and voltages
produced by each source acting independently.
What qualifies you to be an engineer?
1. Electrical engineers must have at least a bachelor’s degree in electrical
engineering or electrical engineering technology.
2. Must have an engineering license
3. Working experience
Ethical and social responsibilities of an electrical engineer
-Electrical engineers have a responsibility to make ethical decisions. Must be
honest about the products they produce this being the flaws that they many
have. This may also be to label product warning od any dangers it make have if
used I the wrong way.
-they also have a duty to inform colleagues or clients of their limitations and to
not take on any job that is not qualified to do.
- help colleagues with personal development.
Measuring instruments and their working principles
Ohmmeter- is an instrument used to measure the resistance of a component or
device.
Voltmeter-
Ampmeter-
Earthing- is used to transmit an instant electric discharge directly to ground
through low resistances wires or electrical cables. The process of earthing in case
of a short circuit happens the electrical wire will carefully remove the over flow
and allows it to flow through the earth.
Why is earthing required?
The main purpose of an electrical earthing is to keep away from the danger of the
electric shock due to the overflow of current.
Main benefits of earthing
The main benefit of grounding include protection from overvoltage, stabilization
voltage and prevention from injury, damage and death.
Components used in electrical earthing
Earth cables- the conductors is used to connect metallic parts of on electrical
systems.
Earthing joints- the ground electrode as well a conductor fixing to the ground
continuity conductor is called earthing joints(earthing)
Hight voltage
Hight voltage is used in power lines when you want to send power from one place
to another. power is roughly equal to send a lot of power you can use high
voltage or high current.
High voltage is needed to send power over long distances because if you use high
current, a lot of power is lost to the resistance in the wire.
Insulation transformers
The main task is the provide is to provide galvanic insulation in the electrical
systems. They can work as step-up and step-down transformers but often operate
with ratio 1:1. This means that the primary ns secondary windings are equal. This
obtained with on same number of turns on the primary and secondary windings.

Different between switchboard and distribution box

A distribution board is the enclosure where the main power feed in and is
distributed to individual circuits whereas an electric switchboard is a device that
directs electricity from one or more sources of supply to several smaller regions of
usage.
Circuit breaker- a circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch
designed to protect an electrical circuit from getting damaged. This can be
triggered by an overload or a short circuit.
Electrical ‘disconnects’ are switches that isolate all wiring in a home or other
building from the source of power, typically the utility services.
