Objective of this document

This document will help you to conduct your studies in an efficient way .
It also helps you to manage and access the course material .

IT IS COMPULSORY TO READ THIS DOCUMENT VERY CAREFULLY!!!

Technical requirements

To optimize the viewing of the 'Courses' section, we recommend that


your computer has the following specifications :

o Minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 "1280 x 1024


recommended "with at least 256 colors
o Internet Explorer 6.x and above
o Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 and above, get it from here

Course structure

The course is structured in the Moodle e-learning tool designed to give


high quality Internet courses .

How to connect to your Moodle course

1. Open your internet Browser and type the following text at your URL
http//:itep-edu.org/eCourses.htm

In some Browsers, the Moodle cookies will not be enabled, in order to


enable cookies at your browser

 Navigate to the Privacy tab and move the left slider to accept
all cookies as follows

 Then click Apply and OK

 Close your Browser and reopen again in order to refresh your


settings.

When you have logged in to the start page, you will find Participants,
Activities "Forums and Resources", and Administration for your profile on
the left-hand side as well as information about your courses on the
bottom of the frame and the right frame in Moodle is divided into three
parts :Latest News, Upcoming Events and Recent Activity.

Below is a description of the different parts of the course

General Information

In this first section you will be guided how to download and install all the
necessary plug-in programs for viewing and listening to lectures .There is
also a general Students Guide to Moodle, and information on how to send
answers to the teachers same information as in this study guide .

Course Description

In this section you will find a document that describe the course
objectives, learning outcomes, the teaching method, the topics that will
be covered through the course, the evaluation method and the reference
books.

Course Modules

The course is composed of 9 modules .Generally, all course modules are


designed in the same way .

Below is the structure of the module .

• Lecture :Slides :You can download a copy to your computer, and then
read it directly on your screen .These files are delivered in PDF format.

•Text Lecture : Text with Slides :You can download "copy "a document
with to your computer, and then read it directly on your screen .These
files are delivered in PDF format .
P.S .Text lectures can be replaced by a reference text books.

• Theoretical assignment :Here you find questions related to the


theoretical part of the lectures .This section is compulsory .You have to
send in answers to the questions posed in order to successfully complete
the course .Answers to all questions in the theoretical assignments must
be sent by email to the course teacher for review and approval .The
emails and attached documents will be archived, making it very
important that all emails include a proper title "often referred to as the

“subject” "as well as required student information in the email and in all
attachments "see information below and in the virtual classroom of
Moodle."

• Practical assignments :Here you find assignments to perform using the


Calculations and Excel Spread Sheet SW .This section is compulsory .You
have to send in answers to the questions posed in order to successfully
complete the course .Answers to all questions in the practical assignments
must be sent by email to the teachers for review and approval .The
emails and attached documents will be archived, making it very
important that all emails include a proper title "often referred to as the
“subject” "as well as required student information in the email and in all
attachments "see information below and in the virtual classroom of
Moodle."

• Self-test :You have the possibility to use Self-tests to review the


theoretical and practical material, and test yourself directly on-line .Self-
tests are part of your assessment .The self-tests are constructed as
multiple-choice questions, matching questions, numerical calculations
…etc ...Each test consists of some MCQ, True & False, Numerical and
Matching questions that are drawn randomly from a question database .
This means that each time you run a test there will be a certain variation
of questions .

•Audio lecture :Audio and Slides :If you have speakers connected to your
computer, we recommend that you listen to the audio and slides lecture .
All audio and video lectures consist of a discussion with reference to the
slides" .This part is an option at this course"

• Video lecture :Video and Slides :If you have a really fast Internet
connection "broadband "and prefer to also look at the teachers when they
are discussing, it is possible to activate a video and slides lecture .This is
the same lecture as the audio one, but you also see the teachers
“acting”" .This part is an option at this course"

P.S:. it is not a must that the course will go with this sequence

How to send your answers for evaluation

Answers to all questions for both theoretical and practical assignments


must be sent to the board for review and approval .The attached
documents will be archived.

Preparing your answer document

 All answers to questions "text, pictures, drawings, maps "in the


practical and theoretical assignments must be uploaded as
Word documents .*"doc ."Answers sent as email or as typed
text in the message body of an email will not be accepted and
will be rejected.

 Answers for the different assignments within the course must


be uploaded as separate files through its corresponding upload
link .The answer document should include your Name, your
student code or student Id "e.g .0403999", the assignment
number and module title, type of assignment
"Practical/Theoretical "and Course Title" Cartography."

P.S .Any answers sent that does not include the required
information according to the instructions specified above will not
be considered for evaluation and will thus be rejected.

Attachment titles

 The filename of the attached answer document should only


contain your Student Id followed by the module number and
assignment type and course Title, as exemplified below:
If a student has an ID "Std12 "is going to submit Practical
assignment Number 1, then he is going to define this as follows :
Std12_1P_Cartography.doc

Here P is short for practical assignment whereas T would be short for


a theoretical assignment.

 If you are asked to resubmit an assignment please try to


remember to re-upload your revised answer document as a
response to the comments of the teacher.

How to start

If you have not already started looking at the course we suggest you
begin by

Step 1 :Logon into the Moodle virtual classroom of the course "Surveying
I ."Take your time to navigate and explore the structure of the course .

Step2 :Use “Forum” to say hello to your fellow students and teachers by
writing them a short greeting message.

Step3 :Test the hardware and needed software .Download the plug-ins
from Internet.

Step4 :If you have any problems do not hesitate to contact the teachers
through the “Forum” in Moodle .

Software

The plug-ins" Silver light, Adobe Acrobat Reader "are available free of
charge over the Internet .Instruction and links to download the plug in
programs is found in the virtual classroom in Moodle.

Appendix 1

Terms and conditions

When you registered for the course within the program you have agreed
on the following terms and conditions:

• I accept that my name, my email address and my country of origin can


be published on the Internet, within password protected sites only seen
by fellow students and staff members;

• I accept that anonymous student statistics "e.g .student progression,


time-on-line, test results, student comments, interaction with other
students, etc… ".may be compiled for administrative and research
purposes;

• I certify that I will be the author of all my written assignments .Material


cited from other sources will be adequately referenced;

• I agree to not distribute any course material to outside;

• I agree that all material I send in within the course may be used as
educational material, or for other reasons, but in an anonymous matter
"no name", by the course teachers .This implies that some material may
be published on the Internet "always anonymous."
