Soccer-Asians end boycott threat to 2002 World Cup finals
702 ZURICH, Sept 7 (Reuters) - An Asian boycott of the 2002 World Cup was
averted on Tuesday when FIFA president Sepp Blatter and Asian confederation
boss Sultan Ahmad Shah reached an agreement or the allocation of teams for the
finals.
The Asian coniederation will remain with four and a halfbe:hs but FIFA said in a
statement it will reconside: the allocation of Asian entries for the 2006 World Cup
The four and a halfberths comprise the two co-hosts Japan and South Korea. two
dualifiers and one Asian team that will play-off against a European team for a place
in the finals.
