The global airline industry includes all the airlines operating around the globe. There are hundreds of
airlines providing services and taking passengers and luggage from one destination to another. The
primary objective of any airline is to travel passenger and cargo from one place to another. The airline
industry is used by individual and businessmen’s. Airlines operate domestically, regionally and
internationally.
The airline industry is important because it contributes to the economic development of a country.
Millions of passengers travel by air now a day, which generates billions of revenues to the economic
development. The airline industry has not only increased world trade activity by enabling air travel
faster and smoother but it has also provided thousands of jobs worldwide. currently, aviation provides
58 million jobs and contributes $2.4 trillion in GDP. This is expected to increase to 105 million jobs and
$6 trillion in GDP in 2034.
The value of international trade shipped by air has increased by 2% to $6.5 trillion. It’s expected to reach
$6.8 trillion in 2014. As air passenger traffic increases, the value of tourism spending is expected to
increase by 5.2% in 2014. Increasing competition and retaining the customers are leading to become the
revenue barriers for the industry. Airlines are thus exploring newer ways of changing the course in
revenue generation. Some of the ways explored are selling ancillary products and services across the
value chain or stopping revenue leakage via the total revenue integrity route.
As the global economy gets closer and closer, aviation is one of the growing transport industries.
Commercial airlines have been carrying more than 4.5 billion passengers for 2018, and in 2019 global
revenues are expected to be worth US$ 606 billion. Air transport also plays an important role in tourism
and contributes to economic growth in developing countries in particular. In the year 2016, there has
been an increase in the number of international tourist arrivals, from 1.24 billion arrivals, to 1.32 billion
in2017.
However, air transport gives access to the global markets and aims to facilitate world trade. Around 63.7
million metric tonnes, producing around US$ 109.8 billion in revenue, were moved via the air in 2018.
These statistics give us the brief idea on how much big and vast the airline industry is.
How does airline industry work?
Airlines are most widely portrayed in the media by the most contractual employees of passengers, pilots
and flight staff, but behind the scenes are many more employees. Larger airlines may employ more
people, but typically the types of workers are the same irrespective of airline size.
Line staff–this is the most common group of people you see in flights, who constitute 85% of the
workforce of an airline. Pilots and flight attendants, airport check in personnel, airport control staff and
security guards are all part of the row.
Operations–If the workers of an airline shape the nucleus, it is blood pumping. Operations- We were
responsible for planning the control of the aviation and the flight crews. Operating staff maintain FAA
guidelines and train the flight crews. they follow. The dispatchers that track all flights of the airline are
included in the operations.
Maintenance-
Aircraft are multimillion dollar machines that must be operated to prevent the loss of money for t
he airline. Aircraft make money only to the carrier if passengers are transported. Aircraft mainte
nance accounts for about 10 percent of the employees of one carrier.
Sales & advertising- you can find it in an airline's sales and marketing divisions when you wonder who s
ets the rates. Their duties cover marketing, freight sales, appointments, customer service and food servi
ces.

The International Air Transport Association forecasts that the number of passengers transported by
airlines will reach 8.2 billion in 2037, up from 7.8 billion in 2036. The updated forecast is based on a 3.5%
compound annual growth rate for the industry. Presenting the updated figures today, Alexandre de
Juniac, IATA’s Director General and CEO, also warned against protectionism and a reversal of
globalization which could slow down growth and put up to 100 million jobs worldwide and $5.5 trillion
in GDP at risk over the next 20-years.
The aviation industry has seen dramatic growth over the past 20 years, with passenger numbers rising
from 1.467 billion in 1998 to 3.979 billion in 2017, according to statistics from the International Civil
Aviation Organization. The figures show us that how much the airline industry is growing at what pace.
