1.0 Service
Predictive diagnostic functions including data acquisition and event logging built into the Aeroqual AQM60 allow
the user to determine when repairs are necessary without performing unnecessary, preventive maintenance
procedures.

There is, however, a minimal number of simple procedures that, when performed regularly, will ensure that the
monitor continues to operate accurately and reliably over its lifetime.

1.1 Service Schedule


An indicative service schedule is shown below. Depending on the local conditions and your data integrity
requirements, you may wish to tailor the schedule to your specific application:

1.2 Service Procedures
This section details the service procedures outlined in the service schedule.

NOTE: The service procedures in this manual are restricted to qualified service representatives.

1.2.1 System Service

Title: Site Report

Procedure:

(a) Record the Monitor information.


HINT: Note the Monitor ID.
HINT: Note the GSM modem number (if applicable).
HINT: Note the IP address (if applicable).
HINT: Note the SD card number.
(b) Record the Site information.
HINT: Note the address.
HINT: Note the GPS position.
HINT: Note the type of site (urban, rural, industrial, roadside, fenceline etc…).
HINT: Note the local pollutants (urban, traffic, petrochemical plant, geothermal, combustion sources etc…).
HINT: Note the expected pollutant levels (background, low, medium, high).
(c) Record the Mounting information.
HINT: Note the monitor placement (inside or outside).
HINT: Note the height the monitor is mounted above the ground.
HINT: Note the mounting structure (pole, wall, roof, other etc…).
HINT: Note what type of solar protection is present (none, shade panels, shaded site, north/south facing).
HINT: Note the security measures (wire cage surround, key accessible site only, hidden, none etc…).
(d) Record the type of service you are performing.
(e) Record where the service has taken place (on-site or at the factory).
(f) Take a photograph of the site.
(g) Record the time and date.
(h) Record the ambient temperature.
(i) Record the ambient humidity.

SYSTEM SERVICE – INSPECT THE MAINS POWER CABLE FOR DAMAGE
Title: Inspect the mains power cable for damage.

(a) Inspect the mains power cable leading to the junction box for damage.
HINT: Check the cable has not been pulled from the strain relief.
HINT: Check the insulation for signs of mechanical damage.
HINT: Check the insulation for signs of electrical damage.
HINT: Check the insulation for signs of heat damage.
WARNING: If damage is observed an assessment regarding the safety of the system must be made and
steps to prevent any personal injury and any further damage to the instrument should be taken.
(b) Record observations in the instrument Log Book.

SYSTEM SERVICE – INSPECT THE ENCLOSURE FOR DAMAGE OR ABNORMALITIES
Title: Inspect enclosure for damage or abnormalities.

Procedure:

(a) Inspect enclosure for external damage or abnormalities.


HINT: Check to see if the enclosure has been pierced.
HINT: Check to see if externally mounted sensors have been damaged.
HINT: Check the door is sealed correctly.
HINT: Check all of the O-rings and glands are sealed correctly.
HINT: Check the enclosure is securely fastened to the mounting bracket.
(b) Inspect enclosure internally for damage.
(c) Inspect the insulation for damage.
HINT: Check the insulation is adhered securely to the enclosure.
HINT: Check the insulation is not torn or compressed.
HINT: Check the insulation is not wet.
(d) Inspect the mounting of all components.
HINT: Check the modules are securely located on the DIN rail.
HINT: Check the transit fasteners are in place.
(e) Inspect inside the enclosure for dust.
(f) Inspect inside the enclosure for moisture.
(g) Record observations in the instrument Log Book.

SYSTEM SERVICE – MEASURE THE FLOW RATE OF THE SAMPLE INLET
Title: Measure the flow rate of the sample inlet.

Preparation: Rotameter.
Specifications: N/A
Procedure:

(a) Connect the rotameter to the Sample Inlet of the monitor.


HINT: Leave the air inlet side of the rotameter open to atmosphere.
HINT: Connect the air outlet side of the rotameter to the Sample Inlet.

(b) Turn on the power to the AQM.


(c) Open the Aeroqual AQM software.

(d) Connect to the AQM by selecting File  Search Monitor…
HINT: This is achieved using your computers serial port.

(e) Ensure that the zero scrubber is turned OFF.

(f) If the zero scrubber is turned ON, turn off the zero air scrubber.

(g) Measure the flow rate of the air through the sample inlet.
HINT: This is the flow rate of the sample inlet, not the flow rate of the sample inlet through the scrubber.
HINT: If you have an Ozone module be aware that the Ozone module pump cycles on and off about every
thirty seconds. Wait for the Ozone module pump to turn ON before taking a measurement.
(h) Verify the value is within specification.
(i) Record the measurement in the instrument Log Book.
(j) Turn ON the zero scrubber.

(k) Ensure the zero air scrubber is turned ON.

(l) Measure the flow rate of the air through the sample inlet.
HINT: This is the flow rate of the sample inlet through the scrubber.
HINT: If you have an Ozone module be aware that the Ozone module pump cycles on and off about every
thirty seconds. Wait for the Ozone module pump to turn ON before taking a measurement.
(m) Verify the value is within specification.
(n) Record the measurements in the instrument Log Book.

SYSTEM SERVICE – PERFORM A ZERO CHECK
Title: Perform a zero check.

Preparation: Zero air source.

Procedure:

(a) Ensure the AQM is standing upright with the door closed.
(b) Turn on the power to the AQM.
(c) Open the Aeroqual AQM software.
(d) Connect to the AQM by selecting File  Search Monitor…
HINT: This is achieved using your computers serial port.

(e) Ensure that the zero scrubber is turned OFF.

(f) If the zero scrubber is turned ON, turn OFF the zero air scrubber.

(g) Open the real-time logging table using the Data  Table  Real Time… menu.

(i) Connect the Zero Air source to the Sample Inlet.
HINT: Use a T-piece to connect to the Gas Sensor module inlet to allow excess flow/pressure to bleed out
the exhaust.
HINT: The zero air can be humidified using the Nafion membrane humidifier as long as there are low levels
of VOCs present in the room.

(j) Turn on the zero air source.


HINT: The zero air flow rate should be at least 1.5 LPM.
(k) Sample the zero air until stable readings are obtained.
HINT: This could take approximately 30 minutes.
(l) Note the zero values in the instrument Log Book.

(m) Turn ON the zero scrubber.

(n) Ensure the zero air scrubber is turned ON.

(o) Sample the zero air until stable readings are obtained.
HINT: This could take approximately 30 minutes.
(p) Note the zero values through the zero scrubber in the instrument Log Book.
(q) Verify the sample readings and the zero scrubber readings are the same.
HINT: If the readings are different then you may need to replace your scrubber media.

(r) Turn OFF the zero scrubber.

(s) Verify the zero scrubber is OFF.

(t) If the sensor baseline readings are outside the specified acceptable range then a zero calibration should
be performed.

SYSTEM SERVICE – PERFORM A ZERO CALIBRATION

(a) Ensure the AQM is standing upright with the door closed.
(b) Turn on the power to the AQM.
(c) Open the Aeroqual AQM software.
(d) Connect to the AQM by selecting File  Search Monitor…
HINT: This is achieved using your computers serial port.

(e) Ensure that the zero scrubber is turned OFF.

(f) If the zero scrubber is turned ON, turn OFF the zero air scrubber.

(g) Open the operations dialog using the Setup  Operations menu.

(h) Turn the Auto Zero function to Auto Zero Function OFF and click Save.

(i) Open the real-time logging table using the Data  Table  Real Time… menu.

(k) Connect the Zero Air source to the Sample Inlet.

(v) Begin the zero calibration using the Tools  Zero Cal menu.
HINT: You should head the zero air scrubber turn on.

(w) Wait for the zero calibration to end.


HINT: This takes approximately 20 minutes.

(m) Sample the calibrated span gas until stable readings are obtained.
HINT: This could take approximately 30 minutes.

(m) Select Tools  Modify Factors…

(n) Enter the system password.


HINT: The factory set user password is password.

(o) Adjust the gain factor for the sensor you are calibrating until its reading matches span calibration gas
mixture and click OK.

(p) Repeat steps (g) to (m) for each span gas.


(q) Record the Gain Factors in the instrument Log Book.

(b) Disconnect the bus cable from the Gas Sensor module.

(e) Remove the transit clip from the module.
(f) Locate the orange DIN rail clip and move the clip in the downward direction using a small screw driver.
(g) With the clip loosened, gently lift out the Gas Sensor module.
(h) Note the date and the serial number of the replacement Gas Sensor module in the instrument Log Book.
(i) Insert the new Gas Sensor module and locate it on the DIN rail.
(j) Fit the transit clip to the module.
(k) Connect the air outlet to the Gas Sensor module.
HINT: Ensure the tube fitting is correctly connected to prevent leakage.
(l) Connect the sample inlet connection to the Gas Sensor module.
HINT: Ensure the tube fitting is correctly connected to prevent leakage.
