ROLEPLAY ABOUT CONSTIPATION DISEASE

One day, a college student named Sabrina doesn’t feel good with her digestive
system. It has been three weeks since she complained how difficult she is when passing out
stools or defecating. Finally on the 22nd day, she decided to go to the hospital with her
lodging house friend and meet the doctor to talk about her problems with the right person.

Sabrina : Hey, Bella! What are you doing right now?

Bella : Nothing, just tied up my bedroom. What’s up?

Sabrina : Em.. can you accompany me to the hospital?

Bella : Of course I can. What happened with you?

Sabrina : I’m fine, but since three weeks ago I have fewer bowel movements than usual and I
noticed it’s been difficult for me passing out stools.

Bella : Oh, I’m sure that it’s hard for you. So let we go to the doctor as soon as possible.

Sabrina : Thank you, Bella.

When this two girls arrived in a hospital, Bella help Sabrina with the registration
process and the other thing she need to meet the doctor.

Nurse : Good morning. Anything I can help for you?

Bella : Good morning. We want to meet dr. Indah for consultation. Can we?

Nurse : I’m sorry, but have you registered or make an appointment with dr. Indah before?

Bella : No, we haven’t. Can I just make an appointment right now?


Nurse : Of course. Lucky you, dr. Indah’s schedule right now doesn’t seems too busy as
usual.

Bella : Oh okay, thank you so much.

Nurse : Sure. Can I know who’s the patient?

Sabrina : Me, my name is Sabrina Kumala Dewi.

Nurse : How old are you?

Sabrina : I’m 20 years old.

Nurse : Where is your address?

Sabrina : I live in Jl. Bantaran, Kota Malang

Nurse : Okay. Now you can wait your turn in front of dr. Indah’s room.

Sabrina and Bella : Thank you so much.

Nurse : You are welcome.

And finally after waiting for about 10 minutes, the door was opened and Sabrina’s
name was called to enter the room.

dr. Indah : Good morning, I’m dr. Indah. How can I help you today?

Sabrina : Good morning doctor, my name is Sabrina and I’m here because I think I have
constipation.

dr. Indah : Oh, I see. So, when did it start?

Sabrina : About 3 weeks ago.

dr. Indah : Is it getting worse?

Sabrina : I think so.

dr. Indah: Before, how often in a week do you have bowel movement?

Sabrina : Everyday. But now, I only do it twice a week.

dr. Indah : What is the stool like?

Sabrina : It’s thick and hard.


dr. Indah : I’m sorry. It must be hard for you. Did you notice any changes in your stool?

Sabrina : Yes. Before, it’s usually light brown. Now, it’s sometimes dark brown or greenish
in color.

dr. Indah: I see. Have you seen any blood in it?

Sabrina : Yes. Sometimes I see streaks of blood in my stool.

dr. Indah : Okay, Sabrina. Thank you for answering all of my questions. I think you should
consume some food that contain high fiber, and don’t forget to drink a lots of water to help
your metabolism become faster.

Sabrina : Oh, I see, doctor. So, what kind of food that can help my problems?

dr. Indah : You can consume a lot of green vegetable like broccoli and spinach.

Sabrina : What about fruit, doctor?

dr. Indah : Fruits which contain high fibers are avocado and banana. If you want, you can mix
all of them and make some smoothies.

Sabrina : Alright, doctor.

dr. Indah : Now I’ll give you some recipe and you can buy the medicine in the pharmacy.

Sabrina : Thank you, dr. Indah.

dr. Indah : You are welcome, Sabrina. If until you have finished consume all of that medicine
but your problems doesn’t get better or getting worse, please come here again.

Sabrina : I see, doctor.

Every day in a week, Sabrina never forget to consume the medicine. But she doesn’t
feel any changes and right now her constipation is accompanied by belly pain. So, she
decided to come to dr. Indah again.

dr. Indah : What happened, Sabrina? Does your constipation getting worse?

Sabrina : Yes, doctor. I have consume all of the medicine but my constipation doesn’t seems
to go away.

dr. Indah : Umm.. any belly pain right now?

Sabrina : Yes, I do.


dr. Indah : Where is your belly pain? Can you point it out?

Sabrina : It’s somewhere here. (LLQ pain)

dr. Indah : Uh-huh. What is the pain like? Crampy? Sharp? Dull?

Sabrina : It’s somewhat crampy and sometimes dull.

dr. Indah : Have you ever had constipation before?

Sabrina : Yes, I did. But it only lasted for 2-3 days.

dr. Indah : Now, I’m going to ask you some personal questions which can be helpful in
getting a more specific diagnosis. Is it alright with you?

Sabrina : No problem.

dr. Indah : Thank you. Is there anybody in your family who has health problems? Like
cancers, especially colon cancer?

Sabrina : Well, my dad died of colon cancer and two of my uncles had colon polyps.

dr. Indah : Ok. Have you done any bowel exams recently? Like colonoscopy?

Sabrina : No, I haven’t.

dr. Indah : Okay. I’m done with the anamneses. Thank you for answering all these questions,
Sabrina. Now I will write down the letter to get you into the more specifics examination.
Because we need to know what happened with your digestive system.

Sabrina : Okay, doctor. Thank you so much for your help.
