Background of the Study

According to Jeff Ball in his research, understanding the general of soil’s physical

properties such as texture, porosity and its structure make you better at soil-management

decisions.

The Soil texture refers to the composition of the soil in terms of the proportion of

small, medium, and large particles (clay, silt, and sand, respectively) in a specific soil

mass. The Structure of soil refers to the arrangement of soil particles (sand, silt, and clay)

into stable units called aggregates, which give soil its structure. Aggregates can be loose

and friable, or they can form distinct, uniform patterns and Soil porosity refers to the

space between soil particles, which consists of various amounts of water and air. Porosity

depends on both soil texture and structure.

In this study, the researchers focused on the most and least optimal ratio of Sand-

Clay-Slit in making loam soil for growing a Mongo seed. Loam soil is the most adequate

soil that can be used in growing most vegetable and berry crops for it is the most

productive soil type. Since it is a mixture of three soils, different nutrients can be

accumulated by the plants that can affect their growth. With proper management and

ratio, the study could bring out the most effective growth of a mongo seed, and likely be

tested by future researchers in different plants to prove its validity.

Statement of the Problem

This research emerged from our further observation about the different soil

properties the sand, clay, and silt soil. Today, in our agricultural section the soil that

farmers used are very different from what we see in our observation. In general, our
observation in planting mongo seeds is using the traditional way of planting crops, the

gardening soil as it become widely available in urban cities. But gardening soil is very

different from the sand-clay-silt soil. Sand-clay-silt soil has more nutrients than the

gardening soil and it has different properties tend to become versatile in planting crops.

Due to this problem we would like to know the most optimal ratio and least optimal ratio

in the sand-clay-silt soil. To help us in answering the problem, the following questions

are needed to be answered:

1. What are the most optimal and least optimal ratios of Sand-Clay-Silt in making a

loam soil for growing mongo bean?

2. What are the significant improvements in the growth of stem, roots and leaves of

mongo beans using Sand-Clay-Silt soil comparing to the traditional gardening

soil?
