4D Poststack Geometry Macro*

4D Poststack Geometry puts multiple poststack 3D seismic

volumes onto the same inline, crossline, and 3D CDP number
grid for 4D processing.

This macro is the first in a 4D processing flow. It contains the

following processes:
Disk Data Input

3D Poststack Geometry

Trace Header Math

Disk Data Output

Input/Output

Prerequisites

Create a new ProMAX LINE

This process destroys any existing ProMAX database OPFs.

Therefore, you must create your 4D processing sequence in a
new ProMAX Line.

Regrid to same x,y coordinate grid

Input volumes must be on the same x,y coordinate grid prior

to running 4D Poststack Geometry. Before you copy the
input volumes to the new ProMAX Line, use 3D PostStack
Regrid to regrid one volume to the same x,y coordinate
system as the other (Grids do not need to be numbered
consistently but traces must be at the same x,y coordinates).

As an example, one project lies on a N-S grid with 100 x100

bin spacing; the other project lies on a NE-SW grid with 200
x200 bin spacing. Use 3D PostStack Regrid to regrid the
second project to a N-S grid with 100x100 bin spacing.

Once you have regridded your data, copy it into your new
ProMAX Line. You are now ready to run 4D Poststack
Geometry.

Input

Separate data volumes are input for each vintage of data.

Although the input dataset order is irrelevant, Landmark
suggests that you first input the dataset that you expect to
change the most over the entire processing sequence. The
second input dataset is the control.

No specific sort is required. However, this macro sorts by

CDP.

Output

Separate data volumes are output for each vintage of data.

Each volume has the same inline, crossline, and CDP

numbering as defined by the grid specified in 3D Poststack
Geometry.

PARMTEST is set in each volume.

The LIN and CDP orders are built in the database.

Tips

You should generate a Fold plot using DBTools or XDB after

running 4D Poststack Geometry to make sure the
coordinate space defined by the parameters matches the
actual coordinates of the traces. Remember, each execution
completely destroys any existing ProMAX database OPFs.
Therefore, the fold map matches the area defined by the last
data volume that was processed.

It can take some time to perfectly match the two datasets.

Use XYGraph to help with the grid expansion as shown in
the tutorial workflows for the 3D tutorials lines 1 2 and 3
rotate and merge.

Macro Flow Description

The following describes the flow of the macro:
• Read the first input stack volume sorting to CDP with
sort string of */
• Run 3D Poststack Geometry
• Add a Trace Display Label identifier

• Output the first stack volume

• Repeat for the second input stack volume

Parameters

Macro Options

Volume(s) to process

Select which volumes to process from the following choices:

• Both Input volumes processes both the input volumes.
• First Input Only processes the first volume only.
• Second Input Only processes the second volume onl.y

Input Dataset Selection

Landmark suggests that you first input the dataset that you
expect to change the most over the entire processing
sequence.

Select the first input dataset

Select the first volume input file from the menu.

Select the second input dataset

Select the second volume input file from the menu.

3D Poststack Geometry

Mode of operation

Select how to update headers from the following options:

• Bin + Extract assigns each trace to a CDP, inline and
crossline and builds the OPF.CDP database files. CDP X
and Y must exist in the input trace headers.
• Header + Bin + Extract calculates CDP X and Y coordi-
nates from inline and crossline headers. This option
then continues as Bin + Extract.

4D Poststack Geometry Macro*1525 ProMAX Reference

• Header Only only calculates CDP X and Y coordinate

headers from inline and crossline headers. It performs
no binning or database extraction.
• Bin Only only assigns traces to a CDP, inline and
crossline. CDP X and Y must be in the headers.

Note: The LIN database is updated with the specified grid

parameters.

Type of units

Select the type of units for data from the following:

• English units are in feet. This is the default.
• Metric units are in meters.

Reference X coordinate for the survey

Enter an X coordinate to be the reference for all other

coordinates in the survey. Enter 0.0 to

Reference Y coordinate for the survey

Enter the Y coordinate to be the reference for all other

coordinates in the survey.

Specify first crossline by:

Select ProMAX bin width, SeisWorks bin width, or End

coordinates. In the first two, one supplies the endpoints of
the first inline and a spacing between lines. A negative
ProMAX bin width places subsequent lines to the left of the
first line when looking down that line. A negative SeisWorks
bin width places subsequent lines to the right, In the third
option, one supplies the actual coordinates of the end of the
first crossline rather than having it computed internally.

X origin of 3D grid

Enter the X coordinate of the first CDP.

Y origin of 3D grid

Enter the Y coordinate of the first CDP.

X coord of far end of first inline

Enter the X coordinate of the far end of the first inline.

Y coord of far end of first inline

Enter the Y coordinate of the far end of the first inline.

Bin size in the crossline direction

Enter the length of the bin in the crossline direction.

Note: Sign is important. If you are standing on the Origin of

the inline looking at the end of the inline, a postive entry is to
your right and a negative entry is to your left.

Minimum inline number

Enter the number of the first inline.

Maximum inline number

Enter the number of the last inline. The number of inlines is

computed from the minimum and maximum.

Minimum crossline number

Enter the number of the first crossline.

Maximum crossline number

Enter the number of the last crossline. The number of

crosslines is computed from the minimum and maximum.

Minimum CDP number

Enter the number of the first CDP. The number of CDPs is

computed from the number of inlines and crosslines.

Output Dataset Selection

Trace label for the first geometry output dataset

Enter a label to display on screen with the first input trace

data. The default is 1 - poststack geometry.

Select the first geometry output dataset

Select or add an output filename.

Trace label for the second geometry output dataset

Enter a label to display on screen with the reference trace

data. The default is 2 - poststack geometry.

Select the second geometry output dataset

Select or add an intersected reference file name.

Skip primary disk storage?

Select Yes to use secondary disk storage to store the data

rather than filling the primary storage area. The default is
No.
