Character Profile

Fill in at least half of this Character Profile- use questions that apply to prompt visual aspects of
character like clothing, posture and facial expression. Needed visual representation in red. These are
cues for sketches/ mood board references.

For the purpose of the first two projects your character must be human, without fantasy or science
fiction elements present, set in our contemporary world.

1. Name. History or circumstances of name.

Stan Bradly. Named after his late grandfather on his mothers side

2. Nickname. Circumstances in which it was earned.. Do they like their name or nickname?

He does not have a nickname.

3. Character Age

4. Is their birthday or delivery significant in any way?

His mother was very sick throughout her pregnancy with him, but otherwise born by c-section and delivered
on time around 3 am on October 12th

5. Where were they born? Environment and circumstances.

He was born in hospital, but the circumstances was poor medical care, since being in a third world country
limited their options. So the delivery was difficult on the mother and his alike, and they both had a fairly long
recovery time.

6. Parents. Describe a brief history of them and relationship history with character.

Stan has always been closer with his mother than his father. His mother is younger since she gave birth in her
teen years. Her parents are strict but had a very soft spot for Stan while they were alive. They passed away after an
accident that involved them, Stan (around 9), and his mother took place. They were crossing the street when a get-
away vehicle struck the family, but Stan and his mother survived, though his mother became paralyzed from the
waist down.

Stan’s father is a politician and military activist, and he never spends much time with either of them. One day,
he stopped coming back to his wife and child (Stan was around 12) because it became hard for him to care for her
and keep his job. He stopped sending money to his family once Stan became independent and moved away from
his mom. Stan’s grandparents on his fathers side disowned his father, so Stan has never really met them before.

8. Religious/ Spiritual Views


Stan believes that there is a greater power that made the universe but chooses not to worship religion. Does
appreciate Buddhism though.

9. Do they practice the rituals of their religion? How do their beliefs or lack thereof affect their life?

His lack of beliefs rarely affects his life, but it has affected a few of his relationships in the past.

10. Where do they live? Living quarters and neighborhood can be included. Provide visual representation through
sketches and mood boards.

He lives above a restaurant in the downtown area.

11. Do they rent/own/squat?

He squatted in his place above the restaurant without the downstairs knowing since it’s a well known
restaurant and always busy, but he was found out when his roommate moved into where he was. He now splits
the rent

12. Living Companions?

He has a roommate named Cyan who discovered him living in her new apartment. They both split rent without
the landlord knowing Stan is there, and she is very laid back.

13. Urban, suburbs, rural area?

Urban area, downtown

14. Do they like or dislike living in their current situation? Why?

Cyan likes living in her current situation since she splits half of what she thought she owed for rent, and she
believes Stan makes good company and protection.

Stan isn’t too keen on his current situation because now he must pay to live where he does and moving isn’t
an option in his opinion. He does appreciate Cyan for letting him live with her regardless.

15. What is their ideal living situation?

For Cyan, her ideal living situation would be her own house one day in a rural part of town and make an alpaca
farm. For Stan, he doesn’t care as long as he doesn’t have to sleep on the streets.

16. What type of home décor do they have?


17. First impression of home?

Very open and clean and does have some nice art on the walls and a very comfy couch.

18. Pets. Describe type, amount and relationship.

No pets. Cyan wants a hamster but Stan has allergic reactions to them.

19. Job/ occupation/ primary activity

Stan is a cook at the restaurant he lives above, though he doesn’t get paid much.

20. Do they enjoy their occupation(s)?

He does not enjoy cooking but is very good at it since he made his mom food for most of his childhood. His
coworkers are very nice to him, but he still doesn’t enjoy his job.

21. Income level. How are their finances? Are they dependent on anyone to some extent?

Stan has low income but does have money saved up from his jobs growing up, so does have some extra
money. He is very stingy though, so he rarely buys anything for himself.

22. How long have they held their most current job?

He has had his current job for around a month now. Due to his short temper he doesn’t usually stay in them
for long.

23. Education background

Has a high school degree and an online degree in mechanics

24. Significant Life Experience

When he was nine his mother and her parents were struck by a hit and run driver on the road. His
grandparents passed and his mother became paralyzed, but due to this he has a weak respiratory system and a
bad ankle and small limp.

His father stopped coming home around age 12, and he ran away from his mother’s home right after he
finished high school to live on his own (around 18)

25. How do they travel? Vehicle, walking, horseback, scooter, bicycle etc.
He walks/rides a skateboard everywhere

26. How do they identify in terms of gender. How does this affect their relationships?

He identifies as male, and it doesn’t affect too many of his relationships.

27. Are they in an intimate relationship?

He used to be, but after 2 years he broke it off

28. Characterize the relative health or toxicity of the relationship.

His only ex-girlfriend was nice to him at first, but he didn’t see the relationship going anywhere into the future,
so he broke it off. They’re still friends though, but lost contact with one another around a year ago.

29. What stage is the relationship in? Almost over? Engaged?

NA

30. Is your character happy in the relationship? Give a brief history of arguments and healing in the general
landscape of the relationship.

He used to be happy in it, but near the 2-year mark he started fighting more with her until it was almost daily.
He broke it off because he believed it to be the right decision, and he healed fast from it.

31. How did they meet?

They met through mutual friends at a high school party.

32. What qualities is your character looking for in an ideal relationship/partner?

He’s looking for someone who can make him love himself more

33. What is their dating life like? Previous Romantic Life?

His dating life was good while he was in a relationship.

34. Trauma: Describe event(s) and how it affects their current state of being
Seeing his grandparents die in front of him at such a young age makes him unable to use or be in any type of
vehicle, and he is anxious if he’s walking on the sidewalk in town. When his father stopped coming back, he started
to develop abandonment issues as well, and now is afraid to be close to anyone else in fear of this.

35. Nicknames, endearing or annoying habits in their relationship.

NA

36. Rituals with significant other or siblings. Inside jokes.

He has plenty of inside jokes with Cyan and his coworkers. He does all the chores around the apartment to
help pay back his debt to Cyan, but he does enjoy being the “mom” of the group very slightly.

37. Compulsive actions by character, benign or damaging.

Stan has very bad anger issues and refuses to accept help from anyone. He is very stubborn and thick-headed,
and once he has his mind set on something it’s very hard to change it. He will also not hesitate to fight anyone if
they ask, and he has a bad habit of sleeping in the corner of a room instead of a bed. As well as staying up for
multiple nights in a row without sleep.

38. Personal Hygiene

When he was younger, he had very good hygiene and had to keep it that way to not embarrass his father
during work, but after the accident he kept his hygiene to the bare minimum so that his mother and him wouldn’t
have to worry about water bills. When he was wandering the streets his hygiene was very poor, but after moving
in with Cyan he takes a shower at least 3 times a week and brushes his teeth 5 times a week.

39. How would you describe your character’s overall mood or emotional affect, their manifestations of their
internal states. Depressive, high energy, serious, hyper-organized, Falstaffian, arrogant, manic, anxious,
introverted, extroverted. Anything else you may want to add.
Stans’ overall mood is serious and dominating, but also snarky and sarcastic when he’s warmed up to
others.

40. Issues with OCD, bulimia and anorexia, Addictions to drugs and alcohol?

He has issues with depression and anxiety but does not have any addictions to drugs or alcohol since he
cannot afford either currently.
41. What alcohol or drugs does your character prefer for recreation?

None, but if he had to choose, he would pick marijuana

42. Emotional conditions that affect them and their life/relationships

Stan has a few emotional conditions that affect his life, such as depression, anxiety, and abandonment issues
due to his father leaving at a young age. Once he connects and opens up to someone, he becomes terrified that
they will leave him, and that fear makes him build more walls and distance himself from them. His depression is
worse some days then others, but he tries to not let any emotional issues from showing and hides behind a façade
of arrogance. He also does not like cars.

43. Physical conditions that challenge them?

Since the accident as a kid was so traumatic, he does have a limp and vision impairments, as well as some
lasting nerve damage in his right hand that makes it numb when he’s stressed or physically exhausted.

44. Describe significant formative familial relationships- father, mother, siblings, children, grandparents,
grandchildren, cousins, aunts and uncles, cousins.

Stan’s relationship with his father is very strained. His father never contacts him but always appears on the
news, so Stan has an idea of how he’s doing if he’s ever curious. Stan’s relationship with his mother was good for
most of his life, but recently she had started to become a toxic being in his life, such as not letting him out of the
house and telling him to take care of her every second until she dies. He had to run away from her before theirs
arguments became physical, and he wanted to remember her as she used to be, not how she is now.

45. Is there political disagreement between your character and other? How does it manifest?

Stan disagrees with his fathers political values because his father is a republican while Stan is more liberal.

46. Do they have close/old friends? How did they meet and do they maintain regular contact in their relationship?

Once he ran away from home, he cut all ties with his old friends. His closest friend right now is Cyan and a
coworker named Dave

47. Does your character cultivate business and shallow local relations based on transactional practices such as
selling drugs, prostitution, or simply a hot dog stand?

No, he works in the kitchen of the restaurant he lives above.

48. What do they prefer to eat? Dietary restrictions, favorite foods?


Stan has no dietary restrictions, but is quite frugal when it comes to spending money on food. He usually saves
a few bucks and takes any leftover food the restaurant is willing to give him.

Stan suffers from insomnia and nightmares of his mother, the accident, or people leaving him. He also has a
bad habit of sleeping in an uncomfortable place such as the corner of a room or behind a door due to his time
hiding and running.

52. Is your character likely to go out of their way to help others? What kind of person would they prefer to help
or empathize with?

If he knows them in any way, Stan will go out of his way to help, but he wont help strangers or beggars. He
prefers to help people who actually need it or are running away like him or suffers from anything he does like
depression and anxiety.

53. What king of charity or giving is most likely for your character? Labor, Financial, Medical etc.

Labor. He’s not stable in either financial or medical to help at all.

54. What is their attitude toward spiritual concepts and the supernatural? Would they be considered Agnostic,
atheist, dogmatic, a believer in general moral power? Skeptical, or strong faith and practice?

Stan is considered agnostic, but he has a respect and interest for Buddhism. But he is more skeptical than
anything.

55. Interest in politics? What is their alignment, voting history, protests and parades?

He tries to stay away from active politics like protests and parades, but Stan is more of a liberal then any of the
other choices. But overall he detaches himself from politics to avoid his dads line of work.

56. What type of cultural media do they enjoy? Visual art, written fiction, film and television, comics and graphic
novels, sports, concerts, nonfiction. Note some specific examples.

Stan likes reading graphic novels, specifically hero and action novels. The more character development the
better. He also likes to create graffiti art in his spare time by the train yard, as well as paint when he can afford it.
57. Emotional triggers? Details and history.

Seeing his father on TV- This causes him to remember how his father left his mother to him, and that in turn
makes him have anxiety and panic attacks.

Not trying to fix your problems and instead continues to complain- Stan hates people who don’t actively try to
fix their issues when they can if they put forth any type of effort and continue to complain about them. He hates
quitters more than anything, and this triggers his anger issues and has a hard time not lashing out.

58. What does your character do when bored?

Stan tends to learn more useful skills online in his free time, such as party tricks or anything that cuts his
intimidating persona. He also likes to do graffiti art in the train yard, or spend time cleaning the apartment.

59. Has your character been Institutionalized or similarly confined? Military School, armed forces, prison, psych
wards.

He was in the hospital for 3 weeks after the accident as a kid, but other than that no.
