WHAT IS HUMANISTIC MODEL?

 It merged in the US in 1950’s as a result of the work of Carl Rogers and Abraham
Maslow.
 It became known as the “Third force” in Psychology – along side behaviorist and
psycho-analytic model – and represented a challenge to both.
 Rogers felt that Freud had dealt with the “Sick Half” of Psychology, so the
humanistic model concerned itself with explanations of ‘Healthy growth
individuals
 Maslow said that Freud supplied them with the sick half of psychology and they
must now fill it out with the healthy half.
 Humanistic Psychology is an approach to understanding behavior that
emphasizes the importance of ‘subjective experience’ and each person’s
capacity for ‘self-determination.

The subjective experience refers to the emotional and cognitive impact of a

human experience as opposed to an objective experience which are the
actual events of the experience. While something objective is tangible and can
be experienced by others subjective experiences are produced by the
individual mind.

For instance, we are all having a subjective experience whenever we are

experiencing pain. Although we as an individual can identify and feel the
specific components of the pain no one else can fully measure or feel our own
subjective experience of pain.

EXPLAINATION:

1. In this Carl Rogers theory, it means that we are the player of our own
game/world. And in that world, we may experience failure, pain, and
disappointment but in the times of darkness there is always a bright side, In
that experience that we encountered or we will encounter in the ending
there is always lesson, and that lesson you can use it to fuel you up or to
develop yourself. There is a saying “Experience is the best teacher” We exist,
because of our previous experiences, in that past events we learn and we
developed ourselves.

2. Every one of us are having a hard time to attain our ideal self, there are some
instances that we choose to settle on our comfort zone, for the reason that
we’re scared or shy to showcase our abilities, skills, and talents because we
are avoiding the judgement of others. But Carl Rogers didn’t want that to
happen, in his theory he wants every individual to grow and develop at its full
potential.

3. In this statement, I think it is trying to say that “When we encountered unusual

experience or situation or it is new to us. We are focused of thinking it and
what will be our reaction on it.

Like for example:

When you fail on a test for the first time, and you know to your self that you
review all your pointers but in the end you fail. On your part, this is a unique
experience. You will never stop thinking about it plus there will be some
hanging questions on your mind. And I think the reactions will be negative,
you might cry or you may feel disappointed but the best reaction in this case
is converting the negativity into positivity.

4. In this case, we will see how Self Affirmation theory works, which is a
psychological theory that focuses on how individuals adapt to information or
experiences that are threatening to their self-concept and also the self
defense mechanism will enter.

Defense mechanisms are psychological strategies that are unconsciously

used to protect a person from anxiety arising from unacceptable thoughts or
feelings. There are a large number of defense mechanism, we have
Repression, Denial, Projection, Displacement, Regression, and Sublimation I
think as we move forward to our lesson, we will have a chance to know what
are these types of defense mechanism.

For instance, smokers will refuse to admit themselves that smoking is bad for
their health. This examples is a Denial Defense mechanism type.

5. In order for a person to "grow", they need an environment that provides them
with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure), acceptance (being seen
with unconditional positive regard), and empathy (being listened to and
understood) Without these, relationships and healthy personalities an
individual will not develop as they should, much like a tree will not grow
without sunlight and water.

WHAT IS EXISTENTIAL MODEL?

Several well-known psychologists, such as Heidegger, Jasper, Roger, Satre,

and May, combined their ideas to create the Existential Theory. Existential
psychology emphasizes self-determination, choice, and individual
responsibility.
