RE: Corrections/ Detention Officer/

Dear Sir or Ma’am:

I am currently a correctional officer with the Florida Department of corrections. I have always
had a great interest and passion for law enforcement. I am really interested in applying for this
position because it’s something that I am good at and have a great interest in. I have a bachelor’s
degree in Criminal Justice from California State University Sacramento. In addition to my
degree, I also have field experience. I have a history working in corrections with my experience
in the US Army. With my knowledge of the corrections and law enforcement fields, I feel that I
would be a great asset to your team. The main reason I am leaving my current position is because
I am still in the Army Reserves and my California unit did not release me and allow me to
transfer to a Florida unit. I am also looking to return home so I can be with my family.

I am California POST certified in patrol. Although my POST certification is expired, I am

renewing it when I arrive back in California. I am also certified in corrections by the American
Corrections Association. With my current job, I supervise the inmates and ensure that the
environment runs smoothly. I am bilingual, speaking and writing both Spanish and English.
Being bilingual is useful as I am currently working in the Gang Unit at Franklin Correctional
Institution in Carrabelle, FL. Because some of the inmates are Hispanic and don’t understand
English, I have to help them communicate effectively. My job requires me to react to situations
in a tactical manner and stay calm. I also have to write reports for medical, violent, and
disciplinary actions. My experience with these tasks will make me a valuable part of the staff at
the Sutter County Jail.

I joined the US Army in 2016 and became part of the Military Police. I am certified by the US
Army in both patrol and corrections duties. My time in the Army gave me a lot of invaluable
experiences and skills. I am an infantryman and received infantry advancement training. I
received an Army Achievement Medal during a live-fire exercise and received a marksman
achievement using the M4 rifle. During my time in the Army, I obtained a government security
clearance. As a Military Police Officer, I worked at a few detention facilites and conducted
multiple live fire excercises.

I would be a good addition to your team because I have a strong moral character, I work well as
a part of a team, I am eager to learn more, and because I can obtain the physical skills necessary
to do the job. I am very quick on my feet and have a strong work ethic. I am very passionate
about law enforcement and would love to be a part of the team.
