Project Title Cooperative communication system design using DAF and AAF
algorithms
Project ID FOE/HYEE/CE/FYP/2017-01/001

Project Description Cooperative communication has been comes as a promising

approach to handling wireless channel problems by exploiting
spatial diversity. Cooperative diversity methods were proposed in
past where virtual MIMO concept is developed with use of
transmitting source nodes and relay nodes to carry the cooperative
transmission. More particularly, each mobile station or user
collaborates with one another user or with a few users jointly,
emulates a virtual MIMO methodology concept. The two most
basic and fundamental collaborative protocols which are being
used between the source, relay and destination nodes are the
Decode-And-Forward (DAF) and the Amplify-And-Forward
(AAF) schemes.
Expected Outcome 1. The student is expected to simulate various collaborative
protocols which are being used between the source, relay and
destination nodes utilizing the Decode-And-Forward (DAF) and
the Amplify-And-Forward (AAF) schemes.
2. At the end evaluate the performance of cooperative
communication systems in terms of BER.

Project Title SNR estimator for cooperative MIMO communication system
Project ID FOE/HYEE/CE/FYP/2017-01/002

Project Description Cooperative or distributive MIMO systems permit a wireless

network system to get higher performance gains rather than
provided either only MIMO or only cooperative communication
systems. There will have visible improvement in usage of spectral
efficiency and coverage of network for next generation of mobile
communication systems. In wireless communication, the road
towards the different techniques that gives high quality service
and rate of data has been by utilizing of cooperative network
provided by the high scattering wireless communication channels.
Due to their great aspects, MIMO and cooperative communication
systems have been found the way towards many standards for
future wireless communication networks (LAN). More
particularly, there are some areas which are more affected by the
effect of interference. To control the channel quality in the
system, SNR estimates are very important [11]. If we talk about
more particular way, the knowledge of the SNR is very helpful for
example, for power control applications, coding which is based on
adaptive modulation needs SNR estimates to select the specific
modulation scheme, and turbo decoding methods utilized this
estimated data as well.
Expected Outcome 1. The student is expected to simulate Fixed Gain Amplify and
Forward Based Cooperative Diversity in multiple-input multiple-output
(MIMO) relay channels.
2. At the end evaluate the performance of cooperative
communication systems in terms of BER.

Project Title Precoding algorithm design for cooperative communication systems
Project ID FOE/HYEE/CE/FYP/2017-01/003

Project Description Pre-coding is a processing technique that exploits channel state

information at the transmitter (CSIT) by operating on the signal before
transmission. A linear precoder essentially functions as a multi-mode
beamformer, matching the data to be transmitted to the channel.
Precoding design varies depending on the types of CSIT and the
performance criterion. The following are the possible precoder design
criteria , Maximization of the channel ergodic capacity, Minimization
of the pairwise error performance (PEP), Minimization of the detection
mean square error (MSE).
Expected Outcome 1. The student is expected to design an algorithm for precoding
and test in cooperative communication system.
2. At the end evaluate the performance of the systems in terms of
BER. ( Software: Matlab®/Simulink)
