NURSING COMMUNICATION
IN HEALTH TEACHING

Health education is particularly important for client (patient or family) by giving some
information related to client’s problem. In doing her/his duty a nurse usually give some
health education. This session introduces specific form according to health education.
Orientation phase:
Working phase
Give a chance to your client to ask
Start the health teaching in a good way
Do the health teaching
a. assess the client’s knowledge about the disease
b. explain the necessary things
c. give a chance to the client to ask
d. ask the client to explain what you have already explained
Termination phase
Make a conclusion from the health education’s result
Give positive reinforcement
Make a next plan for the client

Health education is particularly important for client (patient or family) by giving some
information related to client’s problem. In doing her/his duty a nurse usually give some
health education. This session introduces specific form according to health education.
CASE:
Nana (30 years old) is taken care in Alamanda Ward. She has got Hypertension.
Vivi is a nursing student who practice at Alamanda ward, will give health
education to Mrs. Ana Wulandari (Nana’s daughter).
Orientation phase:
Working phase
Give a chance to your client to ask
Nurse :Is there anything you want to ask or to do before we start
Client : Not, now
Start the health teaching in a good way
Nurse :Could we start right now Mrs Nana?
Client :Yes please
Do the health teaching
a. Assess the client’s knowledge about the disease
Nurse :Mrs. Nana have you ever heard Hypertension?
What do you know about Hypertension ?
Do you know causes, sign and how to take care that?
Client :sorry I don’t know exactly
b. explain the necessary things
Nurse : Hypertension (high blood pressure) ia an common condition that can
lead to serious complications if untreated. Normal blood pressure is 120
over 70 mm of mercury (mmHg), but hypertension is higher than 130
over 80 mmHg. Acute causes of high blood pressure include stress, but it
can result from un underlying condition,such as kidney disease.
Unmanaged hypertension can lead to heart attack, stroke, and other
problems.
Well Mrs. Nana
Making dietary changes and losing weight are effective treatments for
reducing blood pressure. Other lifestyle changes that can help to reduce
blood pressure include stopping smoking, reducing stress, reducing
alcohol consumption, and exercising regularly. These changes are
effective when used alone but often have the greatest benefit when used
together. Many patients with hypertension will also require medications
to lower their blood pressure to safe levels.
