COURSE TITLE: Human Relations in Educational Management

STUDENT’S NAME: Stephanie P. Ventura, MAComm
PROFESSOR: Dean Remedios Dela Rosa, PhD

REQUIRED REPORT: For a week, observe your communication with teacher/ personnel/ student. Identify the
verbal and non-verbal behavior you have witnessed/ experienced. Are there barriers to effective communication
between you and the teacher/ personnel/ student? What are those? Do you think this may affect your relationship?
Why did you say so?

 For one week, I observed with the way I communicated with a personnel. The verbal behavior that I
witnessed/ experienced in terms of the way she conversed towards me as well as to our colleagues is that
she is outspoken and loud literally.

Meanwhile, with the way I talked to her, I kept on reiterating my instructions because I must say, she can’t
fully comprehend. Why do I said so? She keeps saying that she understands it but at the end of the day,
she keeps coming back to me and saying that: come again ma’am what did you just said? Or can you
repeat what did you just said earlier? This came to my conclusion that I don’t think she fully captivated
my instruction with the way I pictured it.

Moreover, the non- verbal behavior I have witnessed/ experienced so far with her is that I constantly
caught her day dreaming and with the way she executed it is like, she is physically present but mentally
absent kind of thing.

Based on my personal opinion and of course observation as well, Yes, I believe there are barriers to
effective communication between me and the personnel because I think effective communication means
that it is a two way process whether it is a verbal or non- verbal communication. Thus, it is the sender
and the receiver.

Further, on my part, you can’t deny the fact that I am trying to reflect and contemplate if I didn’t explain
thoroughly and in details the message or instruction towards the other person as well. In addition to, the
message I am trying to point out and simplify will not be carried or conveyed to the other party as well.
Therefore, results driven will be miscommunication, misrepresentation and misinterpretation.

Consequently, according to www.yourdictionary.com, effective communication is defined as verbal

speech or methods of relaying information that get a point across. An example of effective
communication is when the person who you are talking to listens actively, absorbs your point and
understands it.
