Title of the Presentation:

A feedstock to tailpipe approach to biofuel production from algae

Presenter:

Susan M. Stagg-Williams, Associate Professor, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Dept, University of
Kansas

My liking on the content of presentation:

14 ( on the scale of 0 to 15)

Summary of the Presentation:

Dr. Susan started the presentation describing the motivation for renewable energy. She told that there
are different method for producing biofuel. The approach taken by University of Kansas research team
called “feedstock to tailpipe”. This is a holistic approach of producing biofuel from algae feedstock.

Biomass Production Preprocessing Chemical Transformaion Alternative Fuel Assesment

The process not only deals with chemical transform to biofuel but also from producing algae to testing
fuels. The research team includes chemical engineer, mechanical engineer, and people from biology,
agriculture and chemistry. She detailed about the algae production. Biofuel produced from feedstock is
competent for conventional engines. The best thing is that the team took every step into account for
producing biofuel from algae feedstock.

What I did not like:

The whole presentation was enjoyable one and also enlighting. One thing is that team did not test the
transformation of algae yet. So success of the process depends on the efficient conversion of feedstock
to quality, clean biofuel.
