Abstract
The Indian constitution has made education a fundamental right, free and
compulsory education is provided to children between the ages of 6 to 14.
According to the census survey of 2011, the National Literacy rate is 74.04%. As
of January 2019, India has over 900 universities and 40,000 colleges. In India
education is provided both by public sector and by private sector. Although
there are private schools and colleges in India, they are highly regulated in
terms of what they can teach and in what form they can operate. Also, the
modern education system of India is often criticized for being based on rote
learning rather than problem solving and critical thinking. Through this survey
we are trying to understand students’ view on the present education system of
India and their judgement on if the current education system is doing enough
to shape the future of the nation.
Objective
To find if the Indian education system is helping in shaping young minds
to be the creative geniuses of tomorrow.
To find if the Indian education system is focusing on the theoretical
approach of learning or being practical, realistic and futuristic with its
learning approach.
To find if the evaluation pattern of the Indian education system is
competent to evaluate a student’s ability.
Methodology
Primary data - For the collection of the primary data we have prepared the
following set of questionnaires consisting of 28 questions which will be
circulated for a survey.
Population size - Students between age group 15 to 25. This sample size is
chosen because this is the age when students become more aware of their
career pathways and how education will help them shape their career
pathways.
Sample - Simple Random Sampling method is used for the survey, done by
randomly picking some students of NIFT Chennai; Convenience Sampling
method is used because survey amongst NIFT Chennai students is within our
convenience range.
Research Design - The research design is exploratory in nature. The loopholes
in the Indian education system is known to be many. We are not trying to point
out any particular one. Or for the matter trying to justify the fact whether or
not there are any loopholes in the Indian education system. The idea is to
focus on student’s opinion on the prevailing education system. This study can
be further used to analyze the areas where the prevailing education system
needs improvement and made into a conclusive study.
Secondary data - For secondary data we have not yet reached out to any
journals, magazines or research paper.
