THE FIRST TERM TEST

LEVEL: 3rd year classes. DURATION: 1 hour

Piracy has always existed across the internet. However, since the Invention of high-speed
internet technologies, computer users are able to pirate material at such an alarming pace that it has
turned into a major concern for business.
Computer users have limited resources and content to access at their fingertips. They can do
this almost instantly thanks to the high-tech internet services. These are the most important reasons
why computer users can pirate software in the first place.
Individuals have many reasons why they choose to pirate software and media. The most
common excuse for downloading anything, whether it is music or software, is because of the price.
Common business software such as the Microsoft Office package (Which includes Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher) can cost up $600. If the individual was faced with achieving at
task for any business, he would do right purchasing a Microsoft Office package at that price.
However, he might find it easier and more beneficial to get it for little or no money at all. Very often,
only a few admit, it is piracy.

Exercise 01: Answer the following questions about the above passage: (5pts)

d) How can the effects of piracy be negative on business ?
