APPENDIX E

Journey Project Selection - Product Brainstorming Form

Name: Kendyl Brown

Project Title: Recycling at Pine Lake Prep

Date: August 23, 2019

TYPE OF PROJECT

❏ Design or improve a product, service or system

❏ Plan or organize an event or activity
❏ Learn, present, or demonstrate knowledge of an advanced skill
❏ Other: Experimental research

OVERVIEW/PROJECT DESCRIPTION FROM LETTER OF INTENT:

I plan to create three lesson plans regarding recycling focused on visual, auditory, and physical
learning. I then will teach three classes in the lower school using these lesson plans. I will hand out a
quick “quiz” at the end to see how much information students retained from the lessons, allowing me to
figure out which kind of lesson plan is most effective. I will also use a fourth class as a control group by
surveying students to see what they know without having taught them a lesson. Such data will be used
to encourage Pine Lake to educate students about environmental issues.

GOALS: Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely (S.M.A.R.T.)
- Finish project at least two weeks ahead of time
- Have an 80% average on the “quizzes”
- Send the data results and conclusions to faculty to encourage Pine Lake to educate
students on the environment

RESEARCH CONNECTION: How does your project/product connect your research you’ve completed?

My essay and research were on law, specifically environmental and bankruptcy law. My project
connects with the environmental aspect while combining it with teaching and researching.

BACKGROUND: What do you already know about the topic?

Enrolling in AP Environmental Science as well as serving as president of Pine Lake’s Green Team Club
and as the state finance director of North Carolina Climate Strike enhanced my understanding of
environmentalism and allow me to use several platforms to promote such things.
TIMELINE: List your timeline below illustrating how you plan to spend half of your hours on the project.
- 1 hour - research lesson plans
- 3 hours - create and getting supplies for lesson plans
- 1 hour - contact and follow up with lower school teachers to schedule times to teach
- 3 hours - teach lower school classes
- 1 hour - grade “quizzes”
- 4 hours - create an analysis from the information from graded “quizzes”
- 1 hour - write a conclusion to the experiment

EVIDENCE: What will you produce to demonstrate that you have successfully completed this project?
I will produce 3 lesson plans as well as charts showing the data.
